Metric Motors

Like these guys. They have been very helpful with my wrangler any time I have had trouble on my yearly visit to Taos. Friendly, lots of advice, don’t try to push you into anything. I’ll be back for sure.

do not take your volvo to this place. Because of a new home location that is closer to Taos than
Santa Fe, I thought i would try Metric Motors for the 160K service on my 2001 Volvo XC (which is cherry). I called a couple of days ahead to make a 9AM appointment to have this done, hauling both my laptop for work and my dog with me for what I imagined might take until noon, Instead, when I called at 4PM, the service manager told me that he would get the guy with the computer on it right of way. So far, no oil change, trans check, or any other thing that had to do with Volvo XV 160K check up. When I walked back to Metric to get my car around 4:30, the service manager (who seemed stoned), informed me that I had probably bought a car that had been wrecked before and was a lemon. I was speechless, since I have all the records on the car (as usual) and had already owned it two years (my 6^th Volvo) with awesome performance. So, oil change in which Metric staff did not replace my synthetic oil with synthetic oil, but 10−40w instead (without asking what was preferable). After waiting all day to have what amounted to an oil change and a computer reading that Metric mechanics could not interpret and so was not addressed, I paid the $ 150 bill and will never return. The worst thing about Metric Motors is that it is not honest with its customers, ie: service manager telling me with authoritative certainty that my car had probably been wrecked before, and that’s why they couldn’t figure out what the computer reading was about. The Volvo dealer in Santa Fe is THE ONLY place in the northern Rio Grande region to take a Volvo– even for the simplest of tasks (ie: 10−40w instead of synthetic at Metric). Who needs those stoners? I hope the DEA takes a good look at what the real Metric Motors business is doing.

It is always gut wrenching to have to get your car serviced when traveling and especially so for me because my hybrid model is only on the market 2 years. I was very pleased with the professional top notch service I got when I took it to Metric Motors. I highly recommend them if you are in the Taos area and require some maintenance or repair.

We were on a Road trip across the country and needed to fill up our tires with nitrogen. They did it happily for free which was just awesome, as we were pressed to find even a normal air pump at a gas station that wasn’t out of service!

Simply the best. Quality work, unfailing honesty. If something’s wrong, they will make it right.

Infuriating. I was recommended this place by an old boss, saying he has a good friend that works here and that they’re trustworthy.
Needed tires changed out and a little maintenance — they break my bolt key and then tell me it’s not their fault and want to charge me for it. I fight them on it, say that’s outrageous — you break it, you buy it. They thought they were doing ME a favor by not charging labor. Are you kidding me? Labor because YOU broke something? I don’t think so. So I argue more — well the lady that I was dealing with decides to turn the tables and starts taking my invoice saying she’ll add labor in. EXCUSE ME? Don’t you ever treat a customer like that.
And to think they pride themselves on their customer service. Don’t let the thank you notes on the wall fool you.

Avoid this place if you can. The dogs are nice, the men behind the counter and specifically the owner are NOT. What should have been a few days at most ended up being more than a week. The owner basically told me to shut up so he could talk; This was as I was explaining that the $ 1,600 clutch they put in my car was already failing after a few weeks! I spent thousands on hotels, meals and two weeks of rental car fees as well as had to drive home out of state and all the way back down to get my car once they did eventually «fix» it.
They took a week to put in the wrong clutch and it’s already going… This would have been a one day job and I would have the right parts for the same price at my shop back home. Shockingly rude, I recommend they look the definition of «service» up in the dictionary, as Metric Motors does not understand what this term means. The women working there seem pleasant enough however neither the guy who handled my order or the owner were willing to listen to myself or my mechanic at any time.

While I love living in Northern New Mexico, towing one’s car 70+ miles to the nearest VW repair shop is not one of my favorite things… Especially when I didn’t know anything about this place!
What I was hoping was going to be an inexpensive, easy fix, came back a 12 hour, $ 1200 (before tax!) job. I work for a non-​profit and am a full time student — money isn’t really something I would consider a part of my life! However, I need my car so I did some homework, talked to my old VW mechanic and found that I was getting good information and a reasonable quote for the job.
Well, color me thrilled when I get a call from the awesome guys at Metric Motors telling me that they did some research and figured out a way to do the job, fix the oil leak, and save me around $ 550 in labor. Uh huh. I said IN LABOR.
These guys knew I was willing to credit card it up and pay what I needed to to get my car fixed. They could have easily kept their mouths shut, and would have made a pretty penny off of me — but they didn’t. They showed honesty and excellent work ethic. I definitely consider them «the guys that work on my car» now!
My faith in humanity is restored… Well, maybe just my faith in really being able to find an honest mechanic…

They are the best repair shop in Taos. They fixed all of my cars and are good honest people. There’s a reason they’ve been in business for 30 years.

I had to take my Volkswagen here for a speedometer repair. Not only did they not repair it all the way (they didn’t REPLACE the speedometer light– thanks, guys!), but they were really RUDE to me, even going so far as to insult my (admittedly very old) vehicle and imply that I was scum to them. I would NOT ever get repairs here– try Zeke’s. They are at least polite and professional.
