Laura is our server. She’s pretty good:) No green onions for a loaded baked potato?! No substitutions for the seafood platters. VERYDISAPPOINTEDABOUTTHELACKOFGREENONIONS. I ordered a glass of 5 rivers Pinot noir. It had a hint of vinegar to the bouquet, hmmm. Sent it back. The hubs had the fried seafood platter. He liked it. I loved the hush puppies!

When I was growing up, my grandparents would always take me down to Lowery’s on Sunday for dinner. It was great. I loved the place then. We have recently started going there again as an adult and the quality has been really declining over the past few years. Each year during the holiday season, they serve their holiday special, Roast Turkey and Dressing, Ham, Oyster, Chicken Salad and two sides. I’ve gotten his in at the past and it’s quite an interesting good dish. We went down there a few weeks ago on Sunday, after calling to confirm they had the holiday special, and was VERY disappointed and ended up leaving WITHOUT eating. We arrived about 5:30 ish to a rather empty restaurant, not crowded at all. I went to order the holiday special and was told, they were out of Turkey. Unbelievable! We called to confirm this ahead of time, drove all the way down from Richmond to be told there were out of the dish we were looking for. I was so mad, we left and went back to Richmond to eat. We will not be returning. Sorry to see them go, its hard to find good seafood anymore.

Always a great local restaurant to stop at in Tappahannock. Good food at good prices. I had the crab soup and it was delicious. Plenty of crab meat in a creamy base. My husband enjoyed his steak and cheese sandwich as well. The wait staff is always friendly without being too«chatty». Route 17 is a nice change of pace road from Hampton to No. VA and Lowery’s is a great place to stop for lunch.

We came in for lunch and ordered the crab cake dish and an apple pie with ice cream for dessert. Dinner rolls came out and they were soft and buttery, not my favorite kind of bread. The salad that came out was dried as though it was left out. The crab cake was mehh… It was so soggy, the outer shell had a crisp to it but after forking it, it was mushy. I was looking forward to it but ah well. The apple pie was the only good thing I had there.

A random weekend trip to Tappahannock led us to this restaurant as it appeared to be the restaurant you don’t pass up when you go to town. I had crab cakes and something on the side… probably fries! It was pretty good. Nothing major stood out with the dishes. It appeared to be a nice family dining establishment. Staff were friendly and helpful with making recommendations when asked.

This restaurant was super packed during Sun buffet. They have tons of local fans. Price: Not bad. Sun buffet $ 20. They have many dishes about $ 10 – 30. Taste: Grilled chicken, crab cake and flounder, chocolate cake, coleslaw, and fried shrimps sand crams were good. Fruits salad was sour. Tasted like fermented. Potato salad needed more salt or spices. I did not try stuff with artificial colors. Cream corn and bread something?(I forget the name. I had never heard.) were too sweet and the textures were not great. Beef had a strange smell. Chicken rice soup was too salty. Tasted like a box one. The staffs: Super friendly and nice. Interior: Unique. Many things to see. Old style. Parking lot: Free. Right next to the restaurant. I was super hungry and jumped into the buffet. I should have ordered simple seafood dishes…

Two words: lunch buffet! All kinds of wonderful Southern cooking are on display at their $ 12 lunch buffet. Everything I ate was delicious: fried chicken, cabbage roll, turnip greens, the best hush puppies ever, spoon bread, squash, garden salad, and rice pudding. There were many more choices — beef, pork, seafood, and desserts — but I did not have room. If you’re in this little town for any reason, come hungry and eat here.

Lowery’s is an institution. This restaurant has been around forever and is a cornerstone in Tappahannock. We used to go when they had the after church lunch buffet. It is simple delicious comfort food. The fried chicken is outstanding. The Cream of crab soup is some of the best I’ve ever had. If you stop in and like crab definitely get it. No big frills at this restaurant, they keep it very simple. Staff is friendly. One of the cool things, with every kids meal, at the end you get a fishing license to turn in at the cash register. They will then give you a fishingrod to go catch a fish in their fishing well. Full of plastic fish with magnets on them. The kids then bring their fish back to the cash register and turn in their fish and rod to pick a toy out of the treasure chest.(Pictured). Be prepared to wait while your child takes 10 minutes to decide which five cent toy he wants. But they sure have a good time. So if you’d like an old Timey experience this is the place. Your belly will thank you.

Very friendly restaurant where everyone made us feel like locals. Passing through Tappahannock, VA on our way back to Fredericksburg, this was a wonderful accidental find. We had what they call«The All American Buffet». I will sum it up this way; each and every item on the buffet tasted as good as you will find at any gourmet restaurant in Washington DC. Fill up on: Scallops, Sirloin Tip, Quail, Shrimp, Grilled Pork Loin, and the best Barbeque Ribs this side of Georgia. If you still have room try: Real Macaroni & Cheese, Candied Yams, Spoon Bread and amazing Hush Puppies. But save rooms for the: Coconut Cream Pie, Cherry Cobbler, & Giant Homemade Chocolate Chip Cookies. There was much much more but those are the things I tried and can attest to being awesome. It is off the beaten track but worth trek.

When one comes to an old seafood restaurant, you are usually assured that the seafood will be good. This time, I wanted to check the other menu items and settled upon a Chopped Steak entrée, smothered in onions. It was truly a taste I recall from childhood when my Grandmother cooked the dish for me and my hungry siblings. The dish was as good as could be. Perfectly cooked and seasoned with ground pepper and a hint of salt. The Vadalia onions that topped the dish were perfectly done… with form and substance not overlooked. My sides were fresh slices tomato and corn on the cob… both were«real»… The tomato tasted like a tomato and the corn was just like we remember from home… a whole ear of corn, crunchy and with a hint of butter. The restaurant has been lovingly cared for, but is in need of a tasteful upgrade… but the food and service are from times gone bye. If you want a delightful trip down memory lane, coupled with outstanding food, then do as I did and drop-by Lowrey’s. You will enjoy.

First time here. The waitress was very knowledgeable about gluten free and recommended the chopped crab, with yams and turnip greens. Well, that was delicious. I had coffee afterwards and it was the best tasting cup of coffee I had in a very long while! She said it was restaurant grade. Her service was great. All locals eat here.
