Classic Diner

Great «down-​home» cooking! On Thursday and Friday nights, treat yourself to one of the best steaks at a price you won’t see anywhere else. You’ve got to try it to believe it!

Based on Dori’s glowing review, I thought this place might have been worth a try. In their defense I was told that I was 15 minutes early, which I did not know because there was a wreath obscuring the open times.
I bought a paper outside and sat down.
And waited.
Eventually a woman came out to take my drink order, I had just had a coffee so I didn’t want anything…
This is how it went…
What do you want to drink… nothing
Well are you eating then? …yes
Do you know what you want or do you want a menu… she asked as she walked away.
I gave her my order, poached eggs over grits…
«We don’t make poached eggs»…well over medium then
«We make over easy, ore medium and over hard… I repeated over medium.
Breakfast came in a nice glass bowl… with plastic utensils!
And the grits were so hot I wondered if it was melting the spoon!
I burned my tongue… twice.
When the waitress came out to ask me how it was I told her about the hotness she was defensive! „It was because it is early, they were just made and you ordered your eggs on top… that keeps the heat in.“
I got the check with no prices… when I asked her for the prices she exclaimed…“we’ll, I have to add its up…» I wondered why that had not already happened.
So my friends if you live in Tarboro maybe it’s fine for you to eat here, but if you are passing through… keep on going.

This is a breakfast review. We were so surprised when we walked in! Just like a 50’s diner. Very clean, very friendly. We had eggs, bacon, toast, pancakes, and coffee. Eggs were all cooked perfectly (we had sunny side up, scrambled, over-​medium). Bacon was tender, but crispy. Pancakes were thick and cake-​like with a crispy edge. Good breakfast! Good atmosphere!
