This bar has different great blues bands every Monday night. …and I mean great. No slouchers here just top notch musicians. Two drink minimum and no cover. Totally fair. Unlike other reviews I have read I have had no issues with the service. Folks this is a saloon in the Valley. Take it easy. Stop being so sensitive with how mistreated you have been. This isn’t Boa’s. If you like the blues. Go! You’ll dig it.

Small place tucked away in the back of the strip mall. Plenty of parking. Stopped in a Friday night for live music… no cover charge! I’ve been here before for music and it usually pretty good and this visit was no exception. Seeing that there is no cover charge, prices are a little high. There’s one pool table which we tried out while listening to the music. It’s old and worn… sometimes all the billard balls wouldn’t drop out upon inserting coins. The barback would open the table to resolve the issue. I’ll be back.

I have been here a few times and even though its a bit small but they have live bands on scheduled days, there is a outdoor patio and the bartenders are on there game. For a place to get entertained and meet people of all ages this is one of the places in the Valley to be. As I mentioned there are bands, karaōke, pool table, easy parking and a good drink variety. Being a smaller place it does get busy so seating can be limited. There is a 2 drink minimum and for the younger attendees bring your I.D. because they do check and that means no I.D. no service. Located on Ventura Blvd near Reseda Blvd.

Came to see my cousins band and brought friends to bring him a crowd… We got there early thinking he was going to play early, but no he was going to play later. Bartender or owner who ever she was was basically forcing us to buy drinks… we were going to buy but we were waiting for the rest of our friends and family to come to get the night started. We ended up waiting a little more and well still no band and friends so most of us decided we wanted to drink but I wanted to hold off a little bit more. The bartender then said if I didn’t get a drink I had to leave!!! Like wth is her problem that is not how you treat guest yes it is obviously a bar to drink yes we went to go have fun and drink and listen to music but she was just giving really bad service. I do not recommend to even go there because they basically don’t let you have fun the right way. I don’t like being forced to do something I don’t want too. So we didn’t buy nothing left and didn’t get to see my cousin play with his band. Hell of a night.

I went to Maui Sugar Mill Saloon last night for the first time to check out John Doe. It was quite the pleasant experience. In regard to the show itself. The sound was excellent. You could see from anywhere in the bar. It was a well organized event. Bar patrons were well behaved and respectful to the musicians. The saloon is located in a strip mall so there is plenty of free parking, always a bonus. The bar is well maintained so I really wouldn’t cal it a dive bar by any means. Drink prices were what I would expect(1 Mai Tai and a shot of Jameson = $ 16). It’s quite the drive for me but I would definitely return.

I have been to this place many times, so I did know what I was getting into when we decided to go last night. My expectations were not overly high. We had four seats at the bar, close to the door. The place was pretty heaving and at about 9pm the doorman propped the outside door wide open. Not only were we freezing but the smell of cigarette smoke drifting in from outside was pretty unpleasant. I asked the doorman if we could close the door and he told me it was too hot inside. There was a gas fire in the lounge that he refused to switch off because it added to the ambiance!!! Bottom line, we left. The live music is pretty AWFUL, but it’s a busy bar, so I suppose it must have some kind of charm. I will not go back!

This is my favorite dive bar in the valley. The music is always good and it’s a great place to converse with people. Nancy is the best waitress! Just as I finish my drink, she magically appears offering me another. The outside can be a bit smokey, but that’s what you get at a dive bar. I recommend highly for when you want a no-frills drink that doesn’t cost you $ 14.

I’m in the food and beverage industry I am very judge mental on bars and restaurants and I absolutely love this place. My lady friend had breakfast for dinner and I had the brisket sandwich. If you go to Maui sugar mill I suggest a good beer and delicious food from next door. Great service from my bartender great deals during happy hour.

Love this bar… I am there almost every weekend. the staff is awesome, good drink/beer selection and most importantly, they have good live music every weekend with no cover charge. Just a 2 drink minimum, which is no big deal at all. The clientele ranges from 21 to 50 and everyone seem to get along just fine, very friendly atmosphere. Very happy to have such an awesome bar at a walking distance from my house.

Almost as entertaining as the talented musicians showcased nightly at this bar are the one star reviews by patrons upset about being denied service because — wait for it… they failed to show valid ID’s. Really? I’m going to have a little confidence in humanity and assume most Unilocal readers are educated enough to know that as a bartender anywhere, it is not only your prerogative but your LEGALOBLIGATION to deny service to anyone without a clearly valid ID. Then we have the negative reviews by customers who aren’t actually customers, because they apparently refuse to buy anything. Personally, I don’t think a two drink minimum is too much to ask at all, ESPECIALLY when a band or a karaōke DJ is being paid to perform AND there is no cover at the door. Running a business includes paying for overhead and employing people, so if you’re there and you buy nothing, you’re technically just loitering. SO, if you’re a legal adult with a valid ID, planning to purchase a couple beverages, congratulations! You have all you need to enjoy the best little music venue and daytime hangout in the valley. This bar is a great place to see both local bands and bigger acts(I’ve seen Dave Grohl and Slash!) up close and personal, where the small stage in the middle of the room provides everyone a great view. If you’re a ham like me and enjoy being the star of the show, there are karaōke nights, and the hosts have a HUGE selection of songs to choose from. You’ll find a reasonably priced full bar(GREAT whiskey selection! Old Rip Van Winkle 10 Year, anyone?) with happy hour 4 – 7 on weekdays. The employees there are helpful and fun, will chat with you during slower hours, and keep great drinks flowing when it gets hectic. The pool table in the back is still only 50 cents a game, and, during the day, the restaurant next door provides both appetizers and full meals. After a visit or two to this friendly neighborhood bar, you’ll find you’ve discovered a new favorite hangout.

This place is awesome! Any negative reviews about this place are from alcoholic rude dropouts who can’t behave themselves in public and should just stay in their caves. Let’s take last night. We had about 30 friends here for a bday. Great service. Great bands. Fun time. Meanwhile, this crazy lady came in with an expired ID, and caused a scene when she was denied service. It’s the law. No bar is allowed to serve someone without valid(aka current) ID. You’re supposedly an adult, so grow up and act appropriately. If you disagree with this law, write your congressman. Instead, this lady went and purchased a beer at the store, and then stood outside of the patio here and drank her beer. A beer they don’t even serve here. When the bartenders asked her to simply stand inside the patio fencing(again, law) she got confrontational and tried to move the fencing around herself. Nice tantrum. So thank you to the bartenders for rightly throwing people like this out. If you like great live music, good drinks, and fun people who can act like responsible adults, then go to the mill. If you’re a big drunk fool, stay home.

The females behind the bar are on an apparent power trip. Came to see a show on a Friday night and there was a 30 yr old lady, that looks 18, that forgot her ID. No big. She went and retrieved it, came back and was a embarrassed by the bartender with the 3rd degree. One ID turned into credit card verification and UV lights and some big scene with id GRABBINGFROM from HERTO behind the bar. When the CC bill came the tall blonde that started whole mess was hovering to inspect the potential tip, which she did not get, confronted her and jumped to the conclusion that her brother was her BFr. But her younger(brother) was equally offended and did not tip the tall blonde in question either. You get the money you deserve and the bartenders deserve a new job at mc donalds. Catty ladies indeed. Listen up Maui sugar mill owners. Get a handle on these idiots you have behind your bar or you’ll lose some really good money spending customers. The lovely lady serving tables was excellent as she is always. I wish there were more people like her in this day and age to show these young and falsely entitled individuals the way it should be.

I must have turned a corner in my patronage of «The Mill.» Came in tonight expecting to sing a little Karaōke. Who doesn’t love a little«Mac the Knife» amirite??? Imagine my surprise when I was told there was going to be «Hookers n Blow» instead. Now, I’m an adventurous guy, so I figured, «you only YOLO once!» Now this place is engaging in flagrant false advertising. Admittedly there were some women in their late 40’s who looked the part, but try as I might, nobody wanted to take my $ 20. That coupled with the sign warning against extracurriculars in the bathroom and I knew I was in for a bad time. There was a band playing covers of great 80’s music, but let’s face it… If it ain’t «Unskinny Bop,» it ain’t 80’s(hell they even co opted the ‘in’ from Guns ‘n’ Roses… Ripoff artists!!). And the bartenders had the nerve to charge $ 3.50 for a beer… As if that was going to make my night any better(no «Mac the Knife»). Needless to say, after about 5 of 6 beers and the staff trying to make me feel better, I left angry and unfulfilled. The owner even had the nerve to welcome me back soon(as if)!!! So long story short… I am no longer a regular at the Mill on Thursdays(3 of them a month maximum). I’m only going to be here on Friday through Wednesday now… That’ll teach ‘em.

Cool spot to hang out after work. My coworkers and I came here around 6 on a Wednesday night and ended up staying until about 11. You can order food from Greystones next door, just tell the bartender and they call them and this nice Ukrainian waitress shows up. We ordered a grilled cheese sandwich with fries, some bacon wrapped tator tots and some sweet potato fries. All were yummy and went well with our beers and drinks. We also played pool which was fun. Also, on Wednesday nights these country bands come in and they are awesome! Must also note that I met Bobby Brown here!

One Tuesday evening, I decided to hit up this little bar. I’ve had this spot book marked for the longest time and one reason I hesitated is that they have karaōke nights. As much as I pretend to love it, I despise karaōke with all my heart. Who wants to listen to drunken shenanigans but truth is perhaps a little envious of talent, that’s another story. As I entered the bar, the joint was pretty empty on a Tuesday night. There were probably about 5 or 6 other patrons at the bar. I sat close to the other peeps so I wouldn’t appear out of place sitting alone. There was a couple of patrons in the back playing pool. The main floor had several counter tables and even a fire place for the romantic types. The bartender comes up to me and ask, «what would I like.» I ask for a cocktail menu, she responds, «we don’t have menus.» My expression seemed puzzled cause honestly I have no clue what drinks have in them, so I asked for something spicy. Bartender responds, «you don’t drink often, do you?» Good lord, I’ve been caught as a fake drinker, indeed I don’t drink often. From that point she took care of me, learned a couple of new things. Later in the night, Buck and Lenny began one of the most amusing karaōke sessions in town. Buck was hilarious and entertaining, does an awesome job improvising some of the songs. He interacts with the crowd throughout the night. There were a few people who did get the guts to sing. As for myself, not in this lifetime but did enjoy listening to some great singers. Awesome bar in the west side of the valley, highly recommend hitting on karaōke nights. Beer and spirit drinks are reasonably priced and good crowd.

Such an awesome little dive bar to hang out at, I love hanging out here! I come here every Tuesday for Karaōke the guy Buck Stallion kills it here! He makes it so entertaining every time! The drinks are cheap and everyone here is super friendly!
