Decided late last year to add solar panels to our house. We live in Corona, so it gets a little toasty out here. Even with setting the thermostat at 78 in the summer and watching our use, we got a 450 dollar Edison bill for September. Now I’m not the smartest guy on the planet, but it doesn’t take much to realize that energy prices are not going to come down, so it just makes sense to do something about the bill. I checked out the usual suspects, mainly Verengo and Solar City, but I just didn’t get the warm fuzzies. Too many weird options,(leasing panels on a house I own?), Power purchase agreements, high pressure sales tactics. I just couldn’t pull the trigger. So I’m out front washing the car, and these two people come by with flyers, and we spoke about saving money on panels, and just buying them to keep it simple. I gave them permission to call, and didn’t think any more about it. A very nice man came by the house after calling to make an appointment, and couldn’t have been more professional and data driven. He answered all my questions, didn’t try and push the close at the first visit, and made very careful notes and calculations on how much it would cost to add solar, how much to add to offset the higher tier rates from Edison, and how to finance at the lowest cost in real terms, not financial mumbo jumbo. Polar Solar handled all the financing arrangements, and required only a small deposit from me to get started. Once the financing was in place, it was only a matter of a few weeks before they were ready to install. The team that came out to install the panels was outstanding. They were polite and professional, didn’t creep out my wife while they were here,(it happens, believe me), and the quality of the work is outstanding. The panels are installed exactly as promised, they took the time to explain what they found when they got on my roof, and replaced some broken tiles at their expense that were broken before they got here. The tiles are not expensive, but the cost to get someone out here to fix them is pretty high. The inverter and associated hardware is mounted on the side of the house, and polar solar team took the time to go to the paint store with my panel cover to match the exact shade, since it’s faded over the last 20 years from when it was new. Now all their gear matches everything that was already here. A few weeks after installation, a young guy with a drone came by and took pics and video of the house. he was kind enough to leave a few with me, so I could show my young son what’s up there and explain why it’s so cool. My Edison bill this month shows a 96% drop in use, and a negative amount owed. I’m not sure how anyone could argue with those results! I would not hesitate to recommend these guys to anyone, and if I add more panels or move, they’ll be the first ones I call.
