I love this place!!! My boyfriend and I go(almost) every Wednesday night. They’re always busy with great tasting food and awesome service! The chicken flautas plate is my favorite and their cadillac margarita is my choice of drink! But the chips and salsa are addicting so be careful and don’t eat to much :)

Im trying to think of some negatives here, and I honestly cant think of anything bad about Sol Y Luna. The atmosphere is dark, intimate, classy and fun. This is a great place to come for a date or with a few friends. The food and drinks are great. The prices are also pretty reasonable for the quality of food you are getting. Get the popular table side guacamole, it is made in front of you and is delicious. Dont forget to tip the guy a dollar or two. On weekends there is usually a wait, but its worth it. If you can find a seat in the bar area, it is first come first serve. Anything you order you will enjoy, and you will always have a great time. Have to give it 5 stars.

It’s a good place for casual dinner. The enchilada sauce is tasty. I can do without the live Trio but won’t hate on them for making an attempt of providing entertainment.

Great happy hour! Prices are incredibly cheap. We had 3 margaritas and 3 happy hour plates for under $ 30. I thought the plates would be small, but to my surprise we had leftovers! And yes the food was good, I liked the quest fundido with chorizo the best. Definitely worth checking out if you have never been. The environment is nice too: good music, nice crowd, pretty inside.

The food and prices were excellent. I was over charged and they needed more staff but still a great experience.

They never disappoint! Great service & delicious food. What more can a person ask for? The only problem is that they don’t take reservations and the wait is general 1 hour +! Few of my favorite things are the table side guacamole, molcajete, and the shrimp burrito. You need another location in Westlake village please!!!

I love going to this place my favorite is the Guacamole and the ceviche. Just thinking about it makes my mouth water. They also have great chips and salsa. One of these days I have to order something else problem is when I go it’s because I’m craving the ceviche and guacamole

After numerous recommendations and praise, I finally made my way over to Sol y Luna for dinner on a weeknight. There are many pros and cons to this restaurant, but the main attraction(the food) was a hit. First and foremost, I really think this restaurant needs to start taking reservations. On a Tuesday evening around 8pm there was a 30 minute wait for a table. I don’t mind waiting, if the food is worth the wait; however, the restaurant would run much smoother if there was an opportunity to make reservations. The waiting area is super cramped and no matter where you stand, you are in the way of an employee walking through. I can’t imagine how cramped it would be on a weekend(this is a kind of situation that would stop me from coming here on a busy night). Secondly, the only parking available was valet parking($ 4 plus tip), so come with some cash! After a half hour wait and being seated, our waiter approached us with menus. The restaurant itself is super authentic and the ambiance is traditional and festive. Our waiter was helpful in recommendations and was upbeat and attentive. That’s a big pro because employees with attitudes chase away customers! From the dinner menu we ordered the Molcajete Sol y Luna house special for two. The Molcajete is an array of grilled strips of steak, chicken, cactus leaf, panela cheese, grilled shrimp, green onions, and yellow chili peppers served with house guajillo red sauce. It is served in a traditional molcajete bowl with rice, a choice of either re-fried, pinto, or black beans on the side, and some tortillas. Both the steak and chicken were tender and juicy, neither was overcooked. The shrimp was a tad overcooked but still juicy and flavorful. The yellow chilies were spicy and added a nice kick to the dish. The sauce is what made the entire dish delicious. The guajillo chili has a nice sweetness to it that adds yet another layer of flavor to its mild spice. The proteins soaking in this sauce were super flavorful. The cheese is layered all throughout the dish and since the Molcajete bowl is so hot, the cheese has a chance to crisp up on the bowl, giving it a nice texture. The best way to eat this dish is to take the warm tortillas and make tacos with the beans, cheese, and meats. The waiter let us know that the tortillas were house made and not re-heated; though fresh tortillas taste a little different from the ones I had here. Overall, I enjoyed my dish and the service at Sol y Luna. Based just on these two things the restaurant deserved a 4⁄5; but taking into consideration the inability to reserve a table, the wait times, and the cramped waiting area, the restaurant is a 3.5÷5. I really believe that the establishment would attract a higher customer rate if they took reservations or increased the capacity of their wait area. I may be back if I’m in the area and it isn’t a weekend, but I wouldn’t go out of my way.

Been here twice and Food is ok. I’ve had better from a food truck. Ambiance is ok. Hostesses are young, judgmental, inexperienced with lack of training. Example: we come in and was greeted by a hostess standing behind the host stand and asked how many in our party. My husband answered, Four! She then answered back, «i cant seat you yet until the rest of your party is here.» I pointed my 4 year old daughter as being the fourth person. She laughed instead of apologizing. all I could say was, WOW! Guac made by our table cost $ 9 + tip. We had to ask for chips, drink refills constantly.

They have such yummy food and drinks! The drinks are pretty cheap! $ 7 or so for a house margarita! I will definitely be back for more drinks! The tostada was also pretty good. I also like how they have table side guacamole.

Very good Mexican food in Tarzana. I have been here at least 5 times and have left satisfied every time. It’s a little on the noisy side but a fun atmosphere. The Waite staff is very nice and hard working. The Chips and salsa are very good and can be an issue with making you full before your main course comes out, so be careful. I usually have the crispy chicken taco combo which is delicious. I’ve also had the arroz con pollo which was good. I really do recommend u get the table side guacamole as well, a real must. Overall a very great place for Mexican food and fun. Good for kids.

I can’t believe I haven’t reviewed this place yet! Sol Y Luna has some of the best Mexican food in town. It’s pretty much tied with Salsa and Beer and they are both really close to me. The only thing about Sol is the wait times are ridiculous! It takes forever to get a seat and it’s always extremely crowded in the inside. Once you get past the wait time, the service is really good! They continue to fill your water, check on you periodically and explain anything you have questions about on the menu. I usually order the 2 combo plate with chicken enchiladas and a beef taco. I’ve gotten the sopas before and they were really good too. They give large portions of food and their margaritas are amazing! I do remember ordering a cocktail one time and I didn’t like it. I told our waitress and she replaced it with no hesitation. I highly recommend Sol Y Luna if you want some really good authentic Mexican food in a fun great environment. PS. Make sure to order the freshly made guacamole. They make it right in front of you and make sure to have a couple of dollars on hand to tip them afterwards. OOOOO 5 out of 5 Afros

Damn they be busy here ! Went here this past Saturday evening with the famous Yana and Alex. Waited for an hour, but at least got to see someone get rear-ended on the street. Not funny, but definitely no surprise as when she opened the door smoke came out as if she just got out of the dispensary ;). If you’re coming to this place be ready to wait as they don’t do RSVP. The salsa is great and the guac table side made is awesome. My buddy and I split the mejecatee which has shrimp, chicken and steak… it is really good and a handsome portion for sure. They have valet parking on the side, but there’s plenty of meters depending on the time you come. Best idea is to come and place your name and while waiting go across the street to Corbin bowl. This way you exercise with some bowling prior to eating. Time also passes by faster. Also, I know it’s a good kitchen when I don’t have to go #2 for hours after eating. This is the case for this joint, they know what they’re doing.

Great place for Mexican food! I’ve been here twice now for lunch and I think both times I got a Skinny Margarita and the Healthy Fish Salad. Of course they are accompanied by tons of fresh chips and salsa. Try to balance things out a bit. The place is located on Ventura — there’s a lot with valet and a sign that says $ 4 service charge, but when you got to pay, they say they work on tips. The service and atmosphere is great. Food is pretty top notch and the drinks are hella strong! Really like this place!

Sol y Luna is authentic and legit. I came here with family, and they as well love this place. The ownership of Sol y Luna is the same as the ownership for the Mexican location, Señor Sol. I got the big bad Molcajete. Careful, it’s HOT! I mean, this thing was boiling, so be careful! It’s like a big mystery soup of meat and cheese and yumminess. Make sure you also get some guacamole with your chips so that you can combo the guac with the Molcajete, om nom nom. Margs were good too. Not too sweet, good mix. It gets pretty darn crowded in here during the prime dinner hours. Just grab a drink and get ready to feast!

Defiantly going to have to give Sol y Luna a five star! The happy hour here is by far my favorite of any other place. The have house margarita which go for $ 3.75 each. I usually get mine on the rocks with salt to get stated, one while I wait for my shrimp quesadilla to arrive and last one blended to chill while eating or after I’m done with the delicious shrimp quesadilla. I love the décor of the bar and happy hour area it is a little dim. If its your birthday here they give you a little celebration song with a nice huge hat on your head, very festive! The staff here is excellent very attentive and can be very personable which is a plus. They have street parking(be careful, they are on it with the tickets around this area) and valet parking.

Sol Y Luna is a Mexican style restaurant. I have been here a few times in the evening and one time for lunch but I really like the vibe of restaurant around evening time. After 6 pm expect a long waiting time, but during lunch no wait time. The restaurant itself is a welcoming and warm that makes you feel like home. The food is amazing here and I always had different meals with beef which were all taste delicious; Guacamole is to die for. Margaritas are huge and strong. All three times that I have been here, I have seated by the bar and the service by the bar is very slow and you kinda feel ignored. But overall it’s a nice Mexican spot in the valley that you can enjoy your food with a nice ambiance.

It’s an experience. Go at 6p-7p any night of the week, and you’ll have yourself a 35 – 75 minute wait with valet only parking. No reservations, but after my wait in the buzzing bar, a margarita(or two) later, I like the energy. Finally, my name was called. If I didn’t mention before, I think you’ll be surprised at the ambiance. Dimly lit, lots of Mexican artifacts but without being full of chachkies, somehow, it’s just right. I walked from the bar, thru the lobby, and into the dining room. I was very impressed at how clean it was, I loved the wall mural, and I loved the feeling. The menu is deep, and may I say, cheap. Lots of specialties and appetizers were listed, but I gravitated to the list of 12 or so burritos. I went with the Chili Verde Burrito for $ 10. Well, perhaps I chose wrong. The cubed pork was tender, but it was just mush inside as it was filled with refried beans. The verde sauce had heavy heavy cilantro, as opposed to the standard jalapeño chiles, garlic, and tomatillos.(4.0 stars) I tasted the Arroz con Pollo($ 14.50), and wow was that good! Professional, nice, and friendly service. A stroaming guitarist singer added to all, and while I found myself singing along to Guadalajara and Besame Mucho(margaritas to blame), I had a great time and enjoyed the experience.

$ 4 valet parking during the day, not here! Find yourself street parking and save the $ 4 for another drink! Margaritas here are $ 3.25 during happy hour! Let me just tell you, I left here very happy! I came here earlier today to celebrate my sisters birthday. Our waitress was so nice and even offered to place the cupcakes we had brought on a platter. She came out with the crew and put a mariachi hat on my sister and sang Happy Birthday! My sis was so buzzed she didn’t know what was going on until it hit her! Hey– it’s my Birthday! Great happy hour prices and let me tell you– that huuuuge platter in his picture is ONLY $ 11 during H.H. ¡Salud!

This was my first time here and I was very happy with the decision to eat here. We all do our own reviews, some a bit different than others. When I do my reviews there are 3 major areas that I like to cover. First is the establishment, cleaningness, organisation, service and most of all the quality of the food taste and the presentation. This spot hit it all on. I was greeted right away and seated within a couple of minutes. The server within 2 minutes came over to the table and took my drink order. Great Job. The décor of this Restaurant is very relaxing and very nice. Most of all very organized. The only thing that got me was the parking. On saturday’s they require you to valet your car in their lot. Yes there is parking on the streets, if you can find one. Its not the $ 4.00 to pay for Valet its the principal. Allow your guests to park their own cars if they chose to do so, because without your guests eating in your Restaurant. none of your would have a job or a business. I would allow both choices for your guests to dine in. I would prefer to park my own car. We all take good care of our cars or what ever vehicles we my should be our choice to park our own car. 2015 Unilocal Challenge.087/100
