What a sad way to carry on a local landmark. I’ve tried this place FOUR times and been totally unsatisfied each time. You can see by my review history I am not a picky girl, so it takes a lot for me to say that.
Cash only is a downfall to a business nowadays and the on site ATM was a good idea, except that it’s only actually worked ONCE during my five attempts to eat here (4 times I successfully did).
I will say that the men cooking in the back have always appeared helpful, cheerful and knowlegable. The girls up at the register? Oy. Ive had to repeat/​correct my (very simple) order multiple times and EVERY SINGLE TIME Ive been there, it’s come out wrong! They seem really irritated to have to take your order at all, which always makes me feel embarassed.
Twice we’ve stopped because my husband wanted clam rolls (the item they advertise heaviest) and both times, they’ve said they dont have any clams. This was prior to 6pm both times so Im not sure what the problem was but it’s become a local joke, of sorts, not to go «to the clamroll stand for clams».
The ice cream is not bad at all; the «baby» size is TWO huge scoops! So I’d say you get your money’s worth, there. Provided you can get money from the ATM, get someone to take your order, get the order right, and make it within an acceptable time. Unlikely.
The wait for food is absolutely insane. 15 minutes or more for a few burgers and fries. Oh, and they fry everything in the same oil without ANY signage about even alerting a server about allergies. Illegal in Massachusetts, by the way.
All in all, I really, really wanted to love this place. Or even just like it. But it;s pretty much a no-brainer…it’s a dive that needs a LOT of attention in the service department.
