Stopped here en route to Huntsville to get gas and realized we were hungry when we saw Truett’s. Gas station stops might seem risky but the nice trailer, stacks of wood and a pulled pork sign reeled us in. First I love that we actually got to meet Truett. He was very friendly and equally serious about his craft. Chatted us up nicely and fixed our order fast. We got a sausage link wrap and a pulled pork sandwich — both were delicious. Sausage was meaty in a nice casing with mild but pleasing seasoning. My(plain) pulled pork sandwich was solid. Served on a soft/warm bun, you could taste the freshness/quality — no gritty bites. This may sound strange but it was one of the smoothest pulled pork sandwiches I’ve eaten. The blend of BBQ sauce to pork was ideal. I don’t like my meat overly drenched in sauce. Had we not eaten on the road I would’ve asked for a side of spicy BBQ for the occasional mixup bite but overall it was great! Def stop and see Truett whether you need to fill up or not.
