The office staff of Southland Vet is directly responsible for the loss of my business and the bad word of mouth I will spread. I called and asked for a quote for a neuter and declaw of my two cats. I was quoted $ 235 each, with the only optional added cost being for blood work. When we got there after an hour’s drive we were told $ 408 each That is a 75% bait and switch. And to top it off, they called me to confirm the appointment b/​c someone else was hoping for last minute cancellation. So not only was I screwed, so was the other pet. Nice going. There is no possible excuse or reason for this treatment. I called specifically to ask what procedure you used and the cost, and essentially, they lied to me.

Rip off is right. Coerced me into buying a $ 13 bag of cat food after I specifically told them that my cat is very spoiled and fussy. They put the cat food cost on my bill and demanded that I take it… and also insisted that I had to try it for a week before bringing it back for a refund. Shame on them! Even my cat didn’t like them, she hissed and snarled, probably cussing them out in cat language. Because of the cat food coercion, I will not go here again and I do not recommend them. Shame on them! They could have gained a new client yesterday but because of their coercion, they promptly lost a prospective client. Shame on them.

The workers and vet definitely care about your animals (I’ve taken both of my dogs there), but their prices and wait time are out of control. I recently took my dog in for a torn nail. I called, scheduled an appointment for 10:30am, and wasn’t even seen until almost noon. The vet gave me two options for helping my dog. The first was to remove the nail via a $ 600 surgery. The second was to clean and bandage it for $ 250. When I told him I didn’t have $ 250, he cleaned it and gave me the pain meds and antibiotics for $ 140. Like the other reviewer said, they hit you up for the most expensive options first then they offer other solutions. My wife works with a lady and her dog had the same problem — a torn nail. Her vet in Ferndale removed the nail for $ 105. $ 80 for the anesthesia and $ 25 for the procedure. After my experience today, I think I’ll be making the trip to Ferndale for anything else my dogs need.

Total rip-​off. Don’t trust them! A couple of months ago I was told that I needed to purchase a $ 200 treatment package of antibiotics, some sort of sulfur lime dip, and some medicine called Ivermectin to help with my pet’s hair loss. The worst part is that I specifically told the vet that I didn’t have much money, and he still went ahead and suggested the most expensive (and least effective) course of treatment.
When it became apparent after a month that the treatment he gave me wasn’t working (at all), I did my own research on my pet’s condition and discovered that I could have simply spent $ 40 on Advantage for Kittens. I went straight out and bought it, and the Advantage started working within 24 hours (I could tell because my pet started eating and being friendly again — the change was almost immediate after a month of being unfriendly and not wanting to eat even his treats). Don’t trust these guys — they will take you for everything you’ve got.
