Monte Xanic is a definite must see if you are touring through the Guadalupe Valley. It’s a beautiful winery. While I was there they were working on a renovation but I know it has been finished since then. The staff was so warm and welcoming when we arrived. They held a tasting for us in the barrel room while educating us on their wine production. They have great wines and especially El Gran Ricardo. I highly recommend that wine. There is a view of a beautiful lake in the front and I cannot wait to return to see what it looks like since it’s been updated.

Gorgeous winery! We came here on a winery tour with a group that stayed at the B&B with us. the weekend we went down there, it was super hot and this was the second to the last of the 4 wineries on our tour. the view of the lake, the building, landscape, everything on this property is absolutely breathtaking. a lot of the wineries here in the area seem to have a very contemporary architectural design which isn’t something that you would picture in mx. we went on a tour first with our very nice, young, good looking tour guide. he was very knowledgable and had answers to every question threw at him from our group. the tour included a walk to the barrel rooms down in the cold cave-like cellar, the offices, and the«board room». the wine tasting included 6 wines, mostly reds, although I do believe we got an extra tasting plus we got to take our glasses home! that was a real treat! most of the wine was good, but the cab stood out the most for me. we were told that this winery doesn’t take«walk up» tours so you have to call ahead and make an appointment.

According to this business’ address on Unilocal,Tecate is located in California. I’m not quite sure when California annexed the Mexican town of Tecate, but if it allows me to review a Mexican winery and our wine-tasting experience, I’ll play along. Monte Xanic is one among the many wineries in the Valle de Guadalupe and the grounds and winery itself are very attractive. In fact, a large man-made lake sits directly outside the winery. The lake looks completely out of place in this dry desert region, yet, it also struck me as serene and beautiful, too. So it works. I can only imagine the mosquitos it attracts but we didn’t see any. They make a lot of different wines here and use combinations of grape varietals you simply don’t and wont find anywhere else. We really enjoyed their rose and also their merlot, a grape which gets a bad rap for being«boring,» but if it tastes good, it tastes good. The folks are friendly and the pours were healthy. I’m not so sure having a flight of metal stairs to access the lofty wine-tasting area is the greatest idea – especially after you have enjoyed a bunch of wine and might be a tad tipsy – but I made it up and down with no broken bones and with the memory of a very pleasant experience.

This winery resides in the beautiful Valle de Guadalupe. A region of Mexico known for its fine wine thanks to the help of Dominican missionaries and Russian immigrants. Monte Xanic in Mexican and Indian — means the first flower that blooms on the mountain after the rain Living in San Diego brought me a lot of visitors. A lot. Most of them unexpected and a handful of ‘newfound.’ I had to play host to ‘em all. My favorite tour was the Tecate-Ensenada-Rosarito loop. I became a regular at some of these wineries. Monte Xanic, like most wineries found in this wine country, is a gorgeous winery found off the beaten path. After driving a good 10 minutes through town on a partially(should be paved by now) paved road, You’ll find an arched entrance with a doorman securing property. On one occasion we arrived a bit late, but the doorman let us through to try our chance at getting a wine taste. After zig-zagging through the vineyard and past a manmade lake you will find yourself at the bottom of the stairway leading to the winery. Through a huge double door, past barrels, fermenting tanks and up another set of stairs Monte Xanic wines await you. The Winemaker is from Chile, the owners from Mexico City and the wine pourers are from the Valley. As we were told on many occasions the owners are not in it for the money, but to make great wines. They have enough capital to pump into winery that money issues will never affect the quality of their wines. It really shows. The wine: I’ve tried all their wines and I always go home with a bottle of their Cabernet Sauvignon Merlot. Most of their reds are bold and full of texture. My favorite white was their Sauvignon Blanc. A white that grows well in warm climates. It has high acidity as expected and a great wine for spicy fish tacos. Highly recommended winery. Picture ops are endless.
