We recently had an in home Christmas party for 8 people, 4 employees and 4 spouses. Since we all work remote from our Head Office in California, we thought it would be a great idea to all get together for the holidays and treat ourselves to an unbelievable culinary experience in the convenience of our own home. Unfortunately, our expectations of enjoying some incredible food was not even close to being met. We paid $ 1600 for the team to come to the house, which included Chef John and 2 helpers for serving and dishes, that’s $ 200 per person. if I pay this at a restaurant I would expect unbelievable food and a good portion of that bill to be wine! In this case we supplied our own wine. The experience was supposed to included a 5 course menu. We were served 2 cold prawns on a plate with some watermelon and a Shishito pepper to start, next was a whole pear hollowed out with some leaves and feta cheese(this was actually pretty good), follow by the entrée which looked like a 1st grader put together with Play-Doh. It was a previously cooked, chewy skirt steak, mashed between 2 patties of purple mashed potatoes, COLD! Finally, the desert was a cup of fruit with chocolate drizzle, took one bit to finish, My wife and I took an Über home that night and went through McDonalds as we were still starving, and man was the Big Mac ever delicious! With paying this amount of money, i don’t understand why we didn’t get any warm food? How hard would it be to prepare a filet mignon with a side king crab leg or something? Something like that prepared by a master chef would be much more memorable than cold Play-Doh. PS. When the main was served, our party went from loud and vibrant to silent and shocked, completely took the wind out of our holiday sail. Next year we’ll be heading to Dominics for a real dining experience. Sincerely, Still Hungry

If I could give zero stars I would. Food is frozen the burgers pre made. I wrote I review but was removed. The service was horrid and Chef John cannot take criticism. I would have to say the most shady business in Arizona. Food horrid and to boot the owners are complete rip offs be careful please before doing business do your research on these 2.

If I could give zero stars, I would. Chef John Corey catered our wedding back in 2009. He grossly over charged us, and left the dining room a mess.(I cleaned tables in my wedding dress.) I know there are many of us angry clients out there but chef john does two things to keep getting away with this: 1) changes his business name and location regularly, and 2) writes his own reviews on sites like this under false names. When bad reviews appear, he uses his status as a small business to claim he is under attack or, in my case, complained I was a crazy bride. So offensive, especially since I had all the docs to prove my case. Still, we lost our money. Stay far, far away. Feel free to contact me directly for more information. Update: John Corey, aka Chef John, has personally contacted me multiple times now asking me to remove this review, to the point of harassment. I have politely declined since my review is true and accurate, but have contacted Unilocal because I feel his angry behavior toward me is bordering inappropriate. First, he used Unilocal to pose as a user interested in hearing more about my review(under«Translow W»). It became clear pretty quickly that it was actually Chef John himself. He then told me to «get over it» since my wedding was five years ago and I shouldn’t care anymore… when someone cheats you out of a lot of money, it’s not something you forget. At the time, we tried to sue Chef John, but living out of state it was just too expensive. So needless to say, I’m leaving my review as-is, and have added this update to it. And just in case you also get confused, there are multiple catering firms all under the John and Jeanette Corey brand, and I would steer clear of them all: Chef du’ Jour(the formal name of the company I used, since closed); Chef John’s, LLC in any number of cities across AZ(closing in one city when a bad review shows up, then opening in another one), and apparently something called Roadhaven Resort. If you want more proof, just look at all of the reviews at the bottom of this page that are«not recommended» for violating Unilocal policies. Many of the user names and profiles sound eerily similar to Chef John.
