Chow Locally

We have had Chow Locally for a year now and still absolutely love it. Local, organic, farm-​fresh produce every week. In the rare event that I pass on the share of the week, I typically regret it as I soon realize how much I rely on the produce for meals throughout the week. I can’t say enough great things about Chow Locally and highly recommend them!

Like the concept but I received my first box and there were bugs in 2 of the items. I’m fine with rinsing the dirt but the bugs are too much.

Chow Locally is amazing! Not only is it a great value and a great way to help your local farmers, but the customer service is amazing! Help your community farmers and your health use Chow Locally!

My hubby and I have been doing Chow Locally for a little over a month now, and we love it!!! I get an email Monday around noon with a list of the items in the box, and I have until 10 PM that night to opt out. I can also opt out ahead of time if I know I’ll be out of town or for any other reason. We pick up the box Friday afternoon from Whole Foods, but you can also get it at a farmer’s market. We then plan the next week’s menu around the box and pick up any other items we may need from the grocery store.
Everything we have gotten so far has been super fresh and delicious. Since it is winter, we have been getting a lot of lettuce and kale, as well as citrus. Our boxes have also included radish, fennel, green onions, cauliflower, broccoli, etc. The boxes come with a picture and description of each item (no googling pictures to find out what an item is, which I’ve done in the past with other CSA’s). You can also download recipes and more information for each box from their website. We can now recycle the box weekly instead of returning it, so that’s easy.
The box is about $ 23/​week and totally worth it! No more early morning trips out to the farmer’s market, we can sleep in and enjoy ourselves knowing we got the best each farm had to offer. I love having a ton of fresh produce to use every week, and it is fun to find ways to use new things, or to look up recipes for recurring items. I plan to continue with the company weekly for the forseeable future, and look forward to seeing what each growing season has to offer!

Chow locally is awesome! Every Monday I get an email telling me what is in my Box for the week. I have until 9 PM that evening to decide if I want to cancel for the week. Each box has 7 – 9 vegetables, fruit, local grains that are identified by which farm they come from.
A week might bring curly red Kale from crooked sky farms, Onions from Maya’s, spinach, dandelion greens, and Apples from Dyncan Family farms (PS Arizona grown apples are delicious!)
In the process, I have trained my brain to get excited and ready for the challenge of what each weeks veggies bring me. During the summer, I had an abundance of cucumbers, so I started pickling them. I also learned multiple recipes for the various summer squashes, that I doubt I would have utilized on my own.
While I get excited in meal planning and go to Epicurious for ideas, Chow Locally also supplies recipes concocted by its resident nutritionist.
It’s a model for CSA’s across the country. I have friends in other states who get CSA’s… But none have had one who tells them what they are getting in ADVANCE.
So much fun, and great produce!

Great idea but we’ve received some items that had to go right in the trash. Described as sweet golden cherry tomatoes, actually the most bitter sour things I’ve ever tasted. The choices are curious. The prickly pear pads were a huge waste and we received them twice. Radish pods, dried up tuff things, I guess there’s a reason you don’t see these items in the store! The citrus has been sour, juiced the oranges and used the juice inlieu of vinegar in a salad. We are beginning to feel like many of these farmers are giving Chow Locally items they can’t sell elsewhere. On a positive note the potatoes, carrots, beets and kale have been good.

Beautiful, local produce with the added convenience of ‘one stop shopping’. This service is perfect for people who want to support local agriculture but don’t have the time to browse the Farmers Markets each week. The process was easy and the product was awesome. Why didn’t I think of this?!
