Harkins Theatres Tempe Marketplace 16

I have to admit I have seen far fewer movies going into this new year, and that’s because of the closing of Harkins Camleview 5. I was a regular 1 or 2 movies a week between FS7 and Camleview5, but after 1 visit to the NEW CamleViewFS I just gave up.
That is until I discovered Tempe Market Place Harkins. My matinée ticket was a fair $ 7.50 that’s $ 6.50 less then the shinny new digs in The Fashion Square Mall. (a few blocks from home) I also enjoyed great parking with excellent passenger drop off. It’s surrounded by a great selection of casual quick service restaurants like Chipotle, Cold Stone, Mad Greens, Paradise Bakery and a bunch of others including Cocktails at Bar Louis and Ghinges Grill just steps away.
As I entered this massive theater lobby I was already in a good mood because the Very funny and happy man that sold me the tickets was quick, efficient, and gets good customer service. Apon entering the ticket taker had a big smile and quick directions to our theater. Concessions were quick because of the numerous stations open. Stadium seating and comfy chairs, with an ample size screen and great sound.
I hope to see the art house movies from the original Camleview find there way this direction, being so close to one of the biggest university’s in the country it only makes sense.
This is a very well run movie theater!!!

I almost Always end up watching a movie here:
a.The Location is great, i Always have something i need to shop from Tempe Marketplace or just sit and cuddle up to some live music.
b.There are so many movies to watch. Again there is Always a movie that i haven’t seen or the husband wants to see or both (Pardon ‘Always’ it keeps creeping up one too many times)
c.I LOVE theater Popcorn. Harkins gives you a free refill with every large and x-​large popcorn and unlimited access to butter, condiments and flavors like cheddar cheese, kettle corn etc
So butter away.
d.If you still need a reason then Go find your own!
One tiny glitch Parking can be a pain especially on weekends.

Great theatre, lots of projectors with a big variety of movies.

The Tempe Marketplace Harkins is one of my favorites to see a movie because they always have a large selection of films to choose from with lots of times available. Soda and concessions are also varied and who can’t resist movie theater popcorn? Service has always been great here. The only slight negative is that it can be hard to find parking close to the theater when it’s busy but overall it’s a great spot to watch current movies.

Cine Capri is amazing. Seats are comfortable. Had not had one bad experience here at all. On big screenings like star wars it was easy to see it due to available showings. The way they address lines are very professional.

Kenneth H is the man to see! Incredible customer service and gets your items quickly, no matter how many! This kid definitely needs a raise!

This is a good theater. Seats are good, picture and sound are good. Prices are excessive, but that seems to be the norm now. I get passes or matinees. But the theater itself is very good.

I went and watched the movie, The Good Dinosaur, and I would say that the movie was very good. I went on a weekday (Thursday) in the afternoon. The theater was fairly empty, which made it very nice because there were no loud children in the premises and I was able to enjoy the movie. The theater was very clean as well. The staff at the front and the individual that tore the ticket was very nice and friendly. I would say that the tickets are a bit expensive. AMC on mill during the mornings/​afternoons are around $ 4.50 (that is for new releases as well), and they have reclining chair… very luxurious. Also, that movie theater is much newer. I think harkins need to decrease their prices.

I really appreciate Harkins as a brand in general. I think Dan has done really well for himself over the years with his establishments. Tempe is no different. I don’t think the big screen is worth it, personally, because it’s in a giant theater, and by the time you’re pretty far back, the relatively distance makes it seem like a normal sized screen. Or you sit too close and what’s the point, right? Their normal screens are already great. Food is not half bad. Keep up the good work, guys and gals.

This is a great theater with great prices and an amazing setup! The surround sound within these theaters is noticeably better than the Regal theaters I’ve gone to in So Cal, and tickets are roughly half the price! Matinée tickets for $ 7.50 each?! Uh, major steal!
I also love how they have butter & flavor powder stations for your popcorn. I’m used to having to ask theater staff to butter my popcorn and they usually skimp big time. I also used to have to pay $ 5 for a tiny container of the powder back in Cali. Not anymore!
My friends have bought the Harkins cups/​tshirt which allow you $ 1 large popcorns and $ 1.50 drinks all year long. It’s a great deal if you are an avid moviegoer.
Now on to Cine Capri. It’s a specialty theater with more seats and even BETTER surround sound that usually plays the most popular/​recently released movie. If your movie is being shown in Cine Capri, show up early for the best seats as there will almost certainly be a line.

This theater is great because of the convenience of all of the food and drink around. It’s nice to get a sandwich from jimmy johns before or a quick drink at bar Louie after the movie.
The parking is terrible. Sometimes you need to drive around for several minutes even to find a far spot.
My advice: arrive early.

I go if I can’t make it to the Cinemark 16 on Dobson. This is a mall theater so expect the teenybopper crowd (I’m such a grump. I don’t get this generation).
I have my Harkins cup, so I get $ 1.50 refills.
MINUS– Traffic. Avoid weekends if you want to enjoy your movie.
PLUS: Marketplace live music days!

Harkins has fallen behind when it comes to customer experience at the movies. They have staff that seem distracted or unhappy to be there. Full disclosure, I worked at a Harkins as my first part-​time job in High School. They did everything they could to pay their employees the least they could. From making you punch out for half hour lunches for short three hour shifts, to not paying you overtime for any hours over 40. It shows in the customer service.
The actual seats and screens are sub-​par when compared to AMC’s full leather power recliners. Harkins still has itchy, slightly rocking, squeaky seats with no leg room and screens that make you feel like the first run movie is being played at the dollar theater. Small screens and uncomfortable seats hinder what is supposed to be an immersive cinematic experience.

Well I’ve never actually reviewed a movie theater before but management went above and beyond my expectations. I stupidly bought movie tickets through Fandango at Harkins in Tempe but at Arizona Mills instead of Tempe Marketplace. The movie was starting in about 15 minutes and since I was meeting a friend, obviously couldn’t just go to the other location. Management was extremely considerate, listened to what happened, and allowed me in the theater for the same movie. I was so surprised and thankful that I had to write a review.

I hate parking at Tempe Marketplace, especially next to the movie theater. But, this is a decent theater where you can experience the typical Harkin’s theater.
Drive around to the north side of the theater. Sometimes you get lucky and find some decent spots. As the saying goes, in Phoenix we park based on shade, not distance!

Big, clean new theater with contemporary choices, overpriced food and drink, and all of the blockbusters that look great on the big screen.
Lots of positive experiences here — simply a good theater.

This is the closest Harkins to my house so I’ve been here a few times. Parking is hit or miss, but there always seems to be a few open spots behind the theater, facing the freeway. I purchased the souvenir cup on my last visit because I plan to come back to use my two free movie tickets earned by riding my bike to work instead of car.

Wow what a nice theater and in such a great outdoor mall like Tempe Marketplace. Really impressed with this place on a Saturday night in February when the weather literally is perfect (I know during summer this is probably Hell on Earth). The theater is way on one side of the mall, so if you’re eating at Thirsty Lion, expect a nice WALK.

If you’ve been to one Harkins you’ve been to them all and that’s in no way a bad thing. I love a Harkins and while this one can get a little nuts on the weekend, it’s closest to my house and has the big ass theater otherwise known as the Cine Capri. Cine Capri brings the fancy with it’s curtain that draws back at the beginning of a movie and it’s offensively enormous screen that is perfect for watching well, everything.
This location has the newest releases and lots of theaters so unless you’re running in at the last minute you’ll almost never have a problem with a movie being sold out.
The staff here is, on average, nicer than staff at 95% of businesses you will visit in your lifetime. What I like most about the customer service is that the staff waiting to clean out the theater at the end of the movie politely waits outside and says goodbye and thanks for coming as you’re leaving. It’s a small gesture, but it’s nice!
I think what makes Harkins a cut above the rest is their loyalty program. Buy a cup for $ 5 and you can get a drink for $ 1.50 every single visit. If you go to the movies a lot and like to fill yourself with Cherry Coke (they have it!) while staring into Bradley Cooper’s eyes on a giant screen, then this cup is a savings. Buy a shirt for $ 10 and you get a free upgrade on a small popcorn every single time. Again, if you go to the movies a lot, the shirt pays for itself very quickly.
Harkins all the way for many reasons, but #1 reason you should pick this Harkins say over the Cinemark down the street is because it’s a local operation which in itself probably explains the excellence of its ammenities and customer service.

I’ve been here twice now. First to see Lucy on the Capri screen, and last night we saw The Expendables 3. Lucy was shown in a very large auditorium, whereas last night’s theatre was much smaller, undoubtedly as per the demand (or lack thereof). Both auditoriums were clean, and had comfy, rocker seats. Awesome Dolby sound system. The temperature was ok. There was a tad bit of a chill, but I get cold easily, so I always bring a jacket.
On this last trip, I visited the concession stand for the first time. They have a nice assortment of vegan-​friendly snacks: popcorn (it’s made with popcorn seed, salt, & canola oil; the yellow buttery flavor comes from soybean oil with beta carotene. Contains corn gluten, but not wheat gluten.), Red Vines, Sour Patch Straws, and hot or kosher dill pickles. They had french fries & churros, but I don’t know if they use separate fryers for these items. (I’ll update once I obtain an answer regarding this.)
I opted for the popcorn (which was yummy as is; I didn’t need to add salt) & a wild cherry Icee, which was perfect in consistency (not too thin or liquidly).
I’m new to the Harkins theatre experience (no Harkins in my hometown), so I’m trying to get used to the workers who march up & down each main aisle during the movie. It was particularly very distracting in the smaller auditorium last night.
Overall, nice theatre. Nice employees.
I wish they had a loyalty program that allowed you to earn free movies & snacks.
