Great night tonight at an old favorite! Perfect service, thank you Ryan! DH’s medium rare requested steak came out closer to well done. Well, this diner is ever afraid to return anything back to the kitchen, but they were so accomadating. I just love this place.

Rula BULA! A great name and place. I went to eat around happy hour with my Mom, BF and baby. We got nicely greeted and promptly seated! Lol It was starting to pick up when we got there, with a few 6 and 7 tops. I got the Vegetarian Shepherds Pie and since I love veggies and lentils, it was delicious! My mom got the fish and chips, and we really dug the Irish chips. My BF got a burger and the bun was amazing. Baby had grilled cheese, wish they would’ve of suggested wheat bread, but that’s ok. The portions were great, definitely plentiful. The waitress was good, no mess ups, quick with everything. I would give 4 ½ and the only reason is is because she didn’t say her name! But other then that great food, great svc and experience:)

Lunch time in Tempe with some co-workers. The menu is long and you can get overwhelmed with the choices. When this happens, you let the locals pick for you. I was not disappointed at first cause it was good. After 1500 calories later is when I regretted it. Started with buffalo wings. 4 out of 5. Could have used a spicier kick. Then got the grilled macaroni cheese with bacon. 4 out of 5.

Rula Bula is my favorite bar on Mill Avenue, but I’m a huge fan of all things Irish. Did you know Rula Bula is gaelic for«rough and tumble»? I sent a photo to my friend in Dublin and he informed me of the translation. We always get the pickle back shots when we go. If you’ve never experienced a pickle back, you need to. It is a shot of Jameson chased with a shot of pickle juice. It does not sounds good, but it is flippin amazing. My friends who aren’t huge whiskey fans love them as well as it will kill the afterburn in your throat. I love the Guinness BBQ sauce(my Irish pal says that’s blasphemy, but it’s because he hasn’t tried it), so try the burger with the BBQ sauce. This bar is also good for getting the various Irish draughts like Harp(Northern Ireland) and Smithwicks(Republic of Ireland), not to mention the Guinness staple. We like to hang on the patio, but dining in the restaurant is just as fun. Sláinte!!!

I’m on a business trip in Tempe for 5 weeks, found this place on Unilocal and gave it a shot. I’m glad I did, I’ve been about half a dozen times now(still have a few weeks of my trip left). I haven’t had anything I didn’t like, and I order something different each trip. The fish and chips are some of the best I’ve had in a long time. Although I eat alone and do not order alcohol(read smaller tab) I’ve received great service every time I’ve been here. I would highly recommend this place.

Pricey. Cornbeef sandwiches are $ 10 and up. Yes, it was Irish cut cornbeef(thicker slices). The sweet potatoes were done right. The sandwich was tasty, though lacking of Swiss cheese. It would have been nicer if under $ 10. Washed it down with a half and half. The beer was a fair price. So bring your Celtic coin. Thanks for reading. The Bike Chaplain

First off I want to say thank you to Rula Bula for allowing a large Wednesday group to monopolize a fairly large part of their restaurant last night. We had a double birthday which drew out about 25 of us. We were seated, served and managed by two very capable servers. This isn’t why I’m writing the review though. Like most«Iron Druid» fans I associate Rula Bula with Fish & Chips which is what I always order here, but last night my boyfriend and a few others ordered the«Comfort Food». Good Gravy! This was amazing and now I can’t imagine trying anything else. Do you like Mac & Cheese? Do you like fried chicken? Bacon? Brown Gravy? Do yourself a favor and make the trip to Downtown Tempe.

I had a mac and cheese burger from here and the wonderful memory will remain in my heart forever. Next time I’m adding bacon! Love the style of the place, the deck in back is awesome. I highly recommend this place.

I was working in Tempe for a couple of weeks and was wanting to listen to or join-in at a local Irish Session. I saw that they have live music so I called to see if they had a regular session. The woman who answered didn’t know what an Irish Session was but said that she was relatively new there. I called back the next evening and the guy that answered was not only clueless about what an Irish Session is, but he seemed irritated that I was asking and hung up on me. I think this place is about as Irish as a Bar Louie that serves Guinness. If you are looking for a college bar that pretends to be Irish… this is your spot.

The kitchen was down when we went to visit, so it was just Guinness and Green Spot. The place has a great vibe. Looking forward to a return visit.

I love this place. I had been craving shepherds pie for weeks and finally found a place that makes it exactly how I like it! My friend got the bangers and mash and that was fantastic as well. My boyfriend got the Mac and cheese burger which, of course, was delicious! Plus I love their half and half beer list, too ;) and this building is beautiful inside and out. Love their patio! The only reason I don’t give it five stars is because I wish the kitchen was open later, since it closes at 10.

Came out for lunch and looks as though the fried fish were their signature dishes or the typical bar food. They have Guinness on tap, enough said! They have a huge patio at the back and full bar.

I just moved here and wanted to go check out the local Irish pub. Well Rula Bula did just that! A classic Irish pub with all the right beers and a fantastic choice of whiskys. Good food, nice bartenders and Irish music to go along with it. Try it out. Slainta!

We dined here for the first time on Monday Aug.18th about 7:00PM. We met some friends who happened upon this gem a few years ago and highly recommended it. The place was busy, nice bar area up front and the dinning section is located further back. The menu is all Irish type meals. Something I’m very familiar with growing up having these dishes and being half Irish. So much to choose from and had a hard time deciding. Menu has so much to offer: including all the staples of a home cooked Irish traditional meal! Started with a great appetizer: seasoned potato balls that are deep fried & served with ranch and buffalo sauce– YUM! The potato nacho’s are gigantic and should be eaten as a meal. Serves at least 3 – 4 people! I had the corn beef sandwich and requested it wrap in a flour tortilla, it was delicious. My husband had a burger that came with bacon and a fried egg on top. One of the best burgers he has ever had! He ordered a few pairings of beers along with that, that went well & he enjoyed! You won’t leave hungry with their portions. I feel a little expensive, but with the amount of food, presentation & atmosphere– well worth it. You have to try this place– amazing! Owner stopped by our table and inquired about our meal. Pleasant, friendly and told us some history of the restaurant. It’s also indicated on their menu that the building was actually put together in Ireland and brought to the U.S. That’s pretty cool! Truly an original. BTW– if it’s on the weekend or during any college event. You may want to go earlier as the night life and bar gets packed and it’s a different crowd.

«The mouth of a perfectly happy man is filled with beer.» ― Egyptian Proverb. Does this quote apply to those who drink Snake Bites? Anywho! Met up with some of my favorite Unilocalers for a belated St. Paddy’s Day lunch and it was great! Rula Bula’s is a cute little pub with fun Irish tunes and some delicious eats. Their patio was looking pretty tempting on this beautiful Friday and the first day of Spring but we dined indoors. To start things off, Gillian ordered and shared her Hot Bollix Spicy Potato Balls with us. Thanks for sharing those heavy balls with us, girly! I had assumed that the spice would be present inside the deep-fried cheesy potato balls but the spice came from the hot sauce served on the side. It was kind of nice since weaklings like me can adjust accordingly. I had a picture but I stupidly deleted it before I posted it. Gah! As for my entrée, I ordered the Shepherd’s Pie with my side of brussel sprouts with apples. It was delicious, buttery, and worth the calories. Brett said he can taste Guinness in the sauce but since I was washing my food down with a Guinness Snake Bite, I can’t really confirm it but it was darn delicious! The brussel sprouts were cooked to tender perfection and I loved the bite from the apples. I actually didn’t know the brussel sprouts came with apples until I bit into one. Yum! That tartness really helped cut through all that richness from the potatoes and meat. I would definitely order this again! «For each petal on the shamrock this brings a wish your way. Good health, good luck, and happiness for today and every day.» Thanks for a great lunch!

A little over 5 years ago Mr. M came to me and said, «Do you hate winter? I hate winter». I said, «I’ve always hated winter». And then we started plans to move to Arizona. I had been here many times over the years, but he had never been to the desert. So you know me with my wily ways, I planned a fantastic scouting trip in the middle of March and we left St. Louis crappy winter/early spring weather to spend 4 days here in the Phoenix metro area. One of the things we did was visit Rula Bula around St. Paddy’s day and had great food, even better drinks, and got to see the Keltic Cowboys play. That was one of the rare nights in the past 10 years where I stayed up until 2 a.m.!! What a great time. Ever since then we’ve been back maybe 2 dozen times over the years and always have a great time. For us we really enjoy getting some exercise around Tempe Town Lake and then rolling in here around 2 in the afternoon. It’s usually quiet and we can gab with the bartender and have a relaxing time. On our most recent visit, about 2 weeks before Christmas, we stopped in on a Sunday completely unaware that they have a weekend brunch menu. I had the traditional benedict plus avocado and really enjoyed that one. I loved the fact that they put it on puff pastry instead of a heavier bread item. I usually have to take half home, but this time I ate it all by myself and only let Mr. M have one teeny bite. The Black Velvet cocktail on the menu sounded interesting and it was. Champagne with some Guinness floating on top. Pretty to look at and even better to drink. We now have some Guinness and cheap champagne in the fridge to make one of those whenever we want. Mr. M had his usual Guinness BBQ wings and some Jameson on the rocks. No complaints there. Jody took great care of us at the bar. All in with the food and drinks it was $ 32.90 before tax and tip. We always look forward to a visit to Rula Bula.

We came in here for an Early dinner one day. For once I did not have a hard time finding a parking spot. Beautifully decorated place inside. Very much like a place in Ireland. Just a lot cleaner, because, it is newer. Even down to the Lace curtains. The food was good, really good. Very true to Irish Food. Not something that everyone likes. But, since I grew up with the Ish food. I like it. Our service was good, Everything was hot(food) which is another plus. They do offer Free wifi, which I did not use, but if you needed it… After dinner we sat outside on the enclosed patio area. To listen to live music which was also nice. They allow smoking on the patio. If you are into that. I would absolutely go back to eat again.
