Star Service

This place is absolutely fantastic. Here is why.
Recently bought and 2007 MB S550. After about 1 week, I noticed the car is slightly closer in the back to the tire on the right side. Hence, I started calling around to the different MB places that have 5 star ratings on Unilocal.I contacted MB motors, Autohaus of N Scottsdale, Munich motors and Star Service. I also did some research on the Airmatic suspension on MB forums. Although most of the time the issue is the air bag leaking, somethings the height sensor or a valve can be the issue.
Star Service is the only place that said: we won’t charge you to just look at the car. They hooked it up to the computer and the airmatic retuned no errors! The guy I spoke with, Jerry, said since the difference in height is so minimal there is no reason to do anything right now.
Moreover, they allow customers to buy their own part and then they charge for labor only ($ 90/​h).
Airnott sells air shocks for most brands of vehicles that have air suspension and in the case of the S550, they refund $ 200 (out of $ 761 that the shock costs) if I return the old one to them. Star Service would install the strut I buy and give me the old part back so I can get the refund. Arnott warranties the shock and if it goes bad again they cover the part hence the only future cost is the install.
So Star Service just saved me a ton of cash, as they did not push for me to spend anything right away and in the future I get to save a lot by buying the air suspension parts myself and getting the rebate from Airnott.

As a shop owner (and a collector of classic european cars), I am extremely particular about my automobiles.
I have lusted over a classic Mercedes SL since my high school days and found what appeared to be a low mile car in the Phoenix area. The gentleman selling, while not a car person, tried to be as thorough as possible and emailed several pictures over.
I’ve learned not to commit with pictures alone. I cannot emphasize enough the importance of a «pre purchase» inspection on any used car, regardless of the marque.
After a google search, I was fortunate enough to find Star Service to perform a pre-​purchase inspection on a 1989 560SL. They were very thorough and provided a comprehensive list of concerns on the car. I had also been told that the paint was all original and Star noted evidence of paintwork on the hood and rear quarter panel.
I cannot believe that a shop was so thorough for a very minimal charge. They saved me from buying what could have been an endless money pit. Their passion for the cars is clearly obvious, they love what they do and will give you the most precise and expert opinion. If only they were in southern California!

I’m writing a review and they didn’t even work on my car! I’ve got an ’84 gray market SL with the non-​standard (for this car) inline six. It failed the DOT emissions test. I called these guys to fix it. That is like opening your wallet and telling a mechanic to start pulling $ 100 bills out of it. The guy on the phone says, «Tell ya what I’d do, I’d get ahold of my insurance company, insure the car as a collectible, and nobody’s sending you another emissions testing notice ever again.» Now, that’s an honest mechanic to turn down a profitable job! So I did what he said. It worked! They have a customer for life now.

This place is awesome. My wife drives a 1991 Mercedes wagon and we’ve had it fixed here at least five times. Repairs are always quicker and cheaper than I expect. The staff is always helpful and doesn’t try to talk over our heads. We’ll never go anywhere else.

Been going to see Si and Jerry and everyone for years for my wife’s ML320 and I have to say they are the very best independent service operation we have ever discovered. They’re smart, and experienced and honest. They spend your money like it was their own. What more can you ask for? I feel like buying a used Mercedes just to have more occasions to do business with them! (We split our time between LA and Phoenix by the way.)

We’ve referred several customers with MBZ issues beyond our diagnostic capabilites to Star Service and they have always done a great job. Way cheaper than the dealership, great service and honest.

Star Service, Si, Jerry, & the whole team have been the BEST at advising, repairing, customer service & cost. I cannot say enough about these guys!
THEY HAVE GREAT INTEGRITY! I don’t like having my car (s) out of commission, but when it happens I am PLEASED to have a CAR M.D. that has exceptional bed-​side manner.
If I could do one thing different at Star, I would gift them with new lobby furniture :).

If you own a BMW or Mercedes, don’t take it anywhere else. These guys are the best.
Just had a clutch replaced. Price was fair service was really fast.
These guys are true mechanics that seem to love what they do.
I have had both my Mercedes and BMW worked on at this shop and both service sides are equally good.
