Best lunch spot in town — $$ menu becomes a whole lot more reasonably priced. I love to get the Hibachi Bento Box, Miso Soup and the salad is excellent! Sushi is also very good — you can’t go wrong with Tokyo. Only 4 starts because the service can be pretty shaky at times. Just not very efficient. I’ve been to this resturant for lunch 20 times and I always order fried rice. Same server always tells me, «fried rice is extra». Yes, I already know! I’m buying a $ 13 lunch, do you think I’m really worried about the extra charge on the rice? Plus you served me last week…

I go to many sushi places and when I find a good one I have to review it. This place was awesome and the sushi was fresh and delicious! Service was great and everyone was so friendly. Prices were average for any normal sushi spot.

The food is okay, very expensive. Staff is not friendly. Very impatient. Would much rather go to Umi or out of town.

Love it here. When we are in Terre haute, this is where I love to eat. The servers are always very helpful. The sushi is delicious and hibachi is quite entertaining. Try the saki bombs. Too much fun.

I like this place a lot. The service is good and it’s never super packed. I always sit at the tables rather than at the grill, so I’ve never had trouble getting a table. I love the dressing that comes on the salad. I love the chicken yaki soba – it never disappoints! I also really enjoy their teriyaki chicken. I’ve had a few rolls here that were pretty good, but I don’t usually come here for the sushi. Currently Tokyo is sort of «hidden in plain sight» since its not really near any of the major shopping locations in town. They’re currently building a new place at 3rd and Margaret, which I am excited for. Like most places like Tokyo, it’s a little on the expensive side. The food is dependable and there’s always plenty of it.

While on a day trip to the Haute, I decided to try out this place after hearing good things about it. Once I arrived I started to doubt what I heard about it just judging from the outdoor appearance but don’t let that be your only decision factor. The inside was quite pleasant, clean and welcoming. Service was fast and good, the food was very tasty and high quality its definitely not your mall version asian food, much better, plenty of seafood options such as crabs, calamari, shrimp, fish, etc. Although the price was a tad pricey, you got your money’s worth plate’s were medium size not too small or too big but they offer complimentary soup, salad, and steamed rice with the teriyaki and hibachi meals. To add: There’s free WiFi! Big plus in my book.

Very very good food! I would recommend the hibachi grill. If you want a dinner and a show this is your place. Also there selection in sushi is amazing. It is high-quality sushi. It is reasonably priced, I mean it’s not cheap but I would not consider it to be overpriced at all. The only reason I didn’t give it 5 stars is because some of the staff is rude. Other than that it is a wonderful place to eat. You should defiantly try it

Went on Christmas Eve, food was delicious but wait staff was a little impatient with out-of-towners…especially when it came to alcohol laws.

Tokyo is always my first choice of restaurant. It’s clean and service is always great. The rice is the absolute best part, I always fill up on it before I even get the rest of my meal.

My wife and i stopped here on a whim. It was a Thursday night and the place was not too busy. We ordered sushi and set at the HiBachi grill. The service was really quick. We really liked the Rock & Roll sushi roll, but we felt it was rather small for the price. Our chef was very entertaining but unfortunately we were at the party pooper table which seems to happen everytime we go to a hibachi grill. All in all, food was good, but was a little over priced.

Tokyo is probably in my top five of favorite places to eat in TH. If you’ve ever been to a hibachi restaurant before, then you know how the drill goes. It’s dinner and a show, and I always enjoy the show, no matter how many times I’ve seen it. I’m not a big fan of the dressing they use on the salad, but I love pretty much everything else about the meal. The rice is especially fantastic in my opinion. I could go there and just be completely happy eating large quantities of the fried rice.

Came for dinner last night. I ordered the Tiger roll and miso soup, some if my friends ordered other sushi and a couple got hibachi. The roll tasted good, but the biggest issues with it that I had was the size. If i’m paying $ 14 for a roll i want to be able to see it on my plate. I eat A LOT of sushi and specialty rolls are always pretty good in size, but mine was almost half of what it should have been(based on experience and their picture on the website). Also, they put a very generous amount of sweet teriyaki sauce all over the roll which dominated completely, I almost couldn’t taste anything but that. I’m not sure that i would get it again because after spending $ 27 with tip, not buying alcohol, i still left kind of hungry. This was also true for my friend who got the Rock n Roll. The issue with the hibachi is that this is one of those places that puts teriyaki sauce over EVERYTHING, im not sure why they want every part of the meal to taste the same, except soup and salad. I would try other places in Terre Haute, before i come back here again.

We greatly enjoyed our teppan dinner here tonight. My wife had salmon; I had steak & scallops. After the soup(miso with a couple of thin mushroom slices) and salad(simple lettuce and a few veggies with a pleasant/sweet dressing), the chef came out for the show, starting with the get-your-attention fire bomb. He was a young fellow from Fujian province, China. He did all the usual spatula tapping, twirling and tossing routine, culminating with the always-satisfying egg juggling on his spatula, and with the last toss he lays the thin metal spatula on edge so the falling egg lands squarely in the middle, splitting the shell and spilling the egg onto the cooking surface, thus starting the preparation of fried rice. He squirted liquids from eight different squeeze bottles into the mix — water, lemon juice, sake, soy sauce, etc. — as he mixed, scraped, turned and pressed the rice. Several times, he’d tell me to open my mouth and then squirted some cold sake into it. Haha! He started cooking the salmon first, then the scallops, which surprised me, since they should cook the fastest. Then he cooked four shrimp(two for each of us) and the steak. When he cooked the vegetables, he made an fiery volcano out of alcohol-filled tapered stack of thick onion rings. Fabulous! He also cut up some zucchini and tried to flip them into my mouth. Unfortunately, the combination of his aim and my poor mouth-eye coordination, I didn’t taste any of the morsels. One bounced onto my shoulder; another came to rest on the bridge of my nose! LOL! In the end, everything was succulent. The seafood was not overcooked, despite having been started first. We’ll definitely return with a larger group during a future trip to Terre Haute. Our only complaint is the large amount of teriyaki sauce that’s used. It dominates the other flavors. Next time, we’ll ask the cook to use more ginger sauce … and to reduce the teriyaki to ¼ or less of tonight’s amount.

The food here is great but we’ve had terrible experiences with reservations the last two times we went. The first time we showed up after making a reservation and were told«I remember you calling but we didn’t write it down.» Seriously. We were seated after a 10 minute wait so it wasn’t a big deal. We made a reservation for a party of 10 for 6:45 last night. We showed up at 6:49 and were told that they gave away our table because we weren’t on time. Most places will give at least a 5 – 10 minute grace period for reservations. We then waited 35 minutes, watching groups that came in after us without a reservation get seated, before the hostess told us it would be another 15 – 20 minutes. We left and went somewhere else. When we asked why they didn’t honor our reservation or at least try to seat us soon after, the hostess took an attitude and scolded us for not being there before our reservation time.

I really enjoy going here for lunch. This is not a traditional Japanese restaurant, but that’s ok. The sake is hot, the tuna is fresh, and the seaweed salad is amazing! The head sushi chef’s name is Terrence. He is a Manhattan trained sushi artist and it shows. The cuts are proper and the meat quality is excellent. Especially for the price of lunch. My wife frequently orders the salmon wrapped asparagus and it is excellent as well. The staff is extremely sweet and kind. There are 2 private rooms off of the main dining room for small parties of around 8 – 10. The hibachi is fun and prepared well. Very entertaining. You should definitely give it a try!

I could care less about the main entrees. They were less Japanese and more a mixture of other Asian cuisines dressed up as Japanese dishes. So really, for a Japanese restaurant, they really didn’t offer anything authentically Japanese aside from the sushi. Thankfully, the sushi itself was much better. The ingredients were top notch and very delicious. Lots of flavor and just great. But the rice was not your typical sushi rice, and you can taste the difference. If it were possible to order the insides and pass on the rice, I would, but rice is a major part of sushi and it just didn’t cut it here. Sadly, the good sushi is not enough to save this review. This place was 80 miles away from home and $ 60 more than it was worth. I most definitely won’t be coming back here, even if I lived closer.
