Educator

It’s probably weird how much I like this store being that I am not a teacher. I’ve been to this location and the one in Metairie and I much prefer this one. It’s huge. Everything is so organized and colorful. I want to buy everything. I’m not sure what you could be looking for school or arts and crafts related that you couldn’t find here. And I think everything is pretty decently priced too. Can’t wait to go back.

WAY more inventory and less crowded than the Metairie location. I loved the music playing– I’ll take Greg & Steve over whatever is «cool» any day! The staff is SO friendly and willing to help you with anything you need. I was looking for specific nameplates for my Kindergarten class and after asking it seemed they were out of them. Minutes later, one of the ladies unpacking boxes of inventory found them and tracked me down on the other side of the store to let me know– awesome! Also, you can laminate things for 75 cents and skip the hassle of fighting your schools problematic/​nonexistent one! The only downside about this Educator is the temptation… can one ever have enough bulletin board borders, cut outs, office supplies?! Step away from the aisles and go check out… this is the mantra I had to keep repeating to myself:)

Here’s a fun fact about me: when I was a kid, my parents made me study a lot. Now, I don’t say this in a bad way, in fact it benefited me greatly. You see, I went to private school and my parents encouraging me to study was their way of getting the most bang for their buck. Growing up, Educator and I were very familiar with each other. Way more familiar than one kid should ever be with a place like this.
I recently decided to stop in here, mainly because I hadn’t set foot in here since I was probably 11 or so and I was curious as to what it was like to view this place through the eyes of someone with a driver’s license. I remember coming in here with my dad and picking up workbooks that would help reinforce my well priced education. When I stepped in, all of the memories came back. The place has not changed one bit in 18 years.
Everything you could possibly need is here, whether you are a teacher or a parent looking for educational tools. They have educational posters, workbooks, flashcards, bulletin board supplies, maps, educational puzzles, games, learning aides, etc. They have everything. This place is like heaven for teachers. It’s pretty incredible.
When I went in, the place was completely dead and there were three people working. This kind of baffled me. I guess they have to be prepared in the event that a horde of teachers rushes in and needs flashcards and workbooks STAT! No time to waste!
Anyway, whether you are a teacher or just someone who wants to brush up on their fifth grade math, this is the place for you. Just a note: I noticed that most of the workbooks and educational things are geared towards elementary school, so if you are in high school or college, you might want to look elsewhere for study aides.

This place has got to be a mecca for teachers. I am not a teacher, but going to The Educator makes me (almost) want to become one. I’ve been to The Educator once as a grad student in search of a display board and once recently to purchase bulletin board supplies for a work project. I can’t imagine a teacher in the New Orleans area going anywhere else for classroom supplies.
I was a bit nostalgic going through the store looking at materials that my teachers used so many years ago. The Educator has pretty much everything– borders, bulletin board paper, construction paper, markers, pencils, stickers, cutouts, workbooks, stick-​on letters, poster board, easels, desks, nap mats, flashcards, laminated posters, and really everything and anything else you can imagine. The website boasts that the store carries more than 25,000 products. It’s also important that I mention everything seems to be very reasonably priced and the store seems to offer sales/​specials pretty often.
You don’t need to be a teacher to enjoy this store. Anyone working on any kind of project would really have a field day in here. I’m definitely looking forward to my next excuse to visit The Educator.
