I won’t make this review long because it seems like other Unilocalers have gotten to the point.
The people at Hi-​Do have definitely mastered the art of baking. Everything is tried is so yummy. It is neither too sweet or too dry or lacking in any sense. Everything is always fresh baked too. Not to mention the workers are super adorable and sweet.
I heard that lots of restaurants get their Banh mi (baguettes) from here daily.
I majorly recommend the cream cheese King Cakes, which are available fresh during Mardi Gras season and also fresh by request in an off season. The cake is just soo delicious. It is not overpowered by the sugar or by the filling. The filling has the right proportions of cream cheese and sugar. Don’t get me wrong, I have a sweet tooth. But what makes Hi-​Do so great is that they’ve figured out how much is just enough. To vouch for it, my stepdad hates sweets, but he loves this. My sister Hayes cream cheese, but loves this. And so does the rest of my family. During Mardi Gras, we ordered extra so everyone can bring some to their home states!

BEST KING CAKE IVE EVER HAD. I’ve lived in Nola 23 years. Cream cheese is my favorite. I could eat a whole one myself. Absolute perfection.

It’s sad when it takes living in another state to appreciate little gems like this. Somehow in the land of FB, I saw an article posted about the history of how Hi-​Do came to be and it sparked my interest. Not to mention, it made me a bit teary (Google From Vietnam to New Orleans, Hi-​Do). Anyways I made sure to bookmark for our trip home and we made sure that our last stop before departing the City was here.
It’s the most humble little spot off Terry Parkway in Terrytown. Everything is made fresh every day and prices are low. That has much to do with the fact that they take cash only. Funny thing is that it hasn’t stopped the steady stream of customers that stopped by while we were there. They have a very loyal following and rightly so.
The sweet woman who owns the shop helped us with our order and we even met her husband and their granddaughter. It’s a family affair here! We decided to go with a ham and cheese croissant (my husband’s fave of the 4), cinnamon roll, almond croissant and an apple turnover.
The almond croissant was flaky and butter and definitely fresh. Soo good! The cinnamon roll was massive and messy (when driving) but I would only skip next time because of the raisins. lol. They are well known for their king cakes but that’s for another time! Also, they have a little self serve coffee station with PJ’s coffee but nothing fancy here. Just powdered creamer and sugar packets. And of course, a cooler with cold drinks. If you’re a bargain hunter, check out the wire shelf of discounted bread, pastries, etc. The stale bread would be awesome if you’re an expert at making bread pudding.
I would definitely make a trip here if you haven’t already. Supporting small businesses and mom & pops are where it’s at!

They have the most amazing pastries and French bread I don’t think they make anything bad it’s all wonderful & amazing.

BRAHHHHH… That’s all I have to say. I get it shipped from someone back home to Dallas for me. First king cake that doesnt taste like a cinnamon roll.

I stopped in here yesterday to pick up a small cream cheese king cake and oh my goodness it was so delicious. There’s a ton of sugar on top so its easy to just tap the excess off if it is too sweet. The cream cheese filling is perfect, so tasty ¹⁰⁄₁₀ would buy again.
I also tried their bread and it was really great, I wish this place was closer so I could buy all my bread here.
Overall a really great experience.

I’m going to start this review off by disclosing I have never stepped foot inside so don’t ask me about décor. Frankly, I don’t care if penguins and squirrels are making this stuff as long as it keeps tasting so darn delicious.
I start most of my mornings like a lot of surgeons, eaaaaaaarly morning hospital rounds. My patient and his wife bring me fresh ham and cheese croissants from this place at 7am sharp once a month and they are the highlight of my day every single time! So fresh. So large. So buttery. So delicious. Worth every single calorie… And you can trust me, I’m a doctor :-)

I can give credit where it’s due and I now understand why this place has some of the best bread in the city. This morning I had the apple turnover, bear claw and croissant. I was impressed with each selection. The bread was flaky, buttery (croissant) and not overly sweet (turnover.)
Only reason this isn’t 5 stars is that I’m still not impressed with the king cake. But the pastries have won me over.

A lot of restaurant around the city actually order po-​boy bread from Hi-​Do. This means they’re good right?! Right.
Well, they are well known for their king cakes & before, I was like so… What? But really, yes! The cream cheese filled king cake is the best! I can skip over the colored sugar though. It’s not like icing topped king cake that many are familiar with. Anyways, I’ve brought this to work & all of my co-​workers have thoroughly enjoyed it! You can order year round.
The croissants are good too. I enjoy the chocolate or ham & cheese one.

Who ordered 4 King cakes in the middle of September? This fatty!!! While the king cake is really what it’s know for but the chocolate chip cookie is pretty damn good! This place is known around town so if you need a king cake this is the place!

Hate to let this one out of the bag, but — best french bread for poboys on the WB maybe even the city. Crisp, light, fresh. You can put about anything between and it’ll be good. I almost wish I hadn’t discovered it. Also great traditional brioche type king cakes (think McKenzie’s) that are so good they don’t need to be drowned in icing. Everything’s fresh but be warned they do run out of things so you might have to buy a half loaf or giant king cake if you make the trip and they’re out of size you’re looking for.

This place has the best croissants hands down. They are light and crispy and you can get them filled with chocolate or cream cheese and blueberries etc. I got a ham and cheese one and they warmed it up for me and it was so simple yet so delicious.

I don’t think I have ordered anything that I didn’t love from here. The king cakes are so good! And the walnut brownies omg. Fat kid heaven. I try to stop here often but by the time I have a hankering for dessert they are closed. I need to be a better planner and but dessert before lunch or dinner. Lol.

Just bought a small size traditional King Cake here. Soft, just made, & delicious.
Thought that don’t have any King Cake available since Mardi Gras is over; however, they are still making it for many people still buying it. If you are in town, Westbank, anytime of the year & craving for King Cake, Hi-​Do will make it if you call and order ahead of time.

I’ve had nothing else from here but their king cake and it’s not good at all. It’s mediocre cinnamon bread with colored sugar on it. NO ICING!!!

The taste of croissant isn’t good as what I have had in French bakery… Not recommended for croissant

I can’t speak to anything else, but the king cake is delicious. The best in the area in my opinion. The bread is not super cinnamony and the sugar is super fine and powdery.
The service is also perfect. Friendliness goes a long way in my book. CASH ONLY!

When I’m in town during Mardi Gras season, this place is a must-​stop. Hi-Do’s cream cheese stuffed king cakes are my absolute favorite! If you haven’t had a chance to try their king cakes yet, I urge you to make that trip across the bridge and GO GET SOME! You won’t regret it.
I love their other pastries, as well. Try their croissants! My favorites are the almond and chocolate.
Also, this place is CASH ONLY. There’s an ATM if you happen to forget to have cash on hand, but I figure that it’s better to spend those extra few bucks toward a tasty pastry instead of an ATM service fee. :)

AWARD WINNING BAKERY
Not far from Hoa Hong Nine Roses is this bakery that we assumed was because it was Vietnamese owned offered baked Vietnamese desserts. We soon find out no such thing. They’re renowned for their Mardi Gras King Cake and their chocolate crème filled crossiants. So, the four of us sat for a couple hours chatting about families while munching on chocolate crème filled croissants and cake. Not to forget sipping on fresh brewed coffee. We also met the owner and talked about his business and when he first started as a baker in Salinas, California. All in all it was a good visit. BTW… chocolate croissants were heavenly divine!

so i’m reading a lot about these cakes, but i quite enjoyed their croissants. it’s what you’ll see in the main case — all kinds of filling. i indulged a bit and grabbed the cream, ham and cheese, and the almond (was more like a marzipan) — all good! i’d imagine when they are fresh out of the oven they must be amazing, but they made good for an after snack and early dinner later in the day. i’ll be keeping this place in mind whenever i’m on the WB.

I’m just going to say it, and I realize these may indeed be fighting words, Hi-​Do has The Best Kingcakes! They are similar to McKenzie’s kingcakes, the closest I’ve ever found at least.
Friday morning, at 7am on the dot, when the doors open, already I am the eighth person in line. The best kept secret on the Westbank is not a secret at all it seems. My kingcake was so fresh that it was still warm. French bread with a hint of cinnamon and just purple, green, and gold sugar on top. The croissants are awesome too! Pick up a couple. Might as well as grab some small French breads while you’re there, gives you an excuse to whip up some gumbo or red beans when you get home.
This bakery is cash only. Even if you can’t make it there for the kingcakes, it is worth going out of your way for some baked goods any other time. Bet you could special order a kingcake too, even if it’s no longer Carnival time!

Hi Do is a much needed local bakery in an area where local bakeries are lacking… on the Westbank.
Don’t go in here expecting to find cupcakes and petit fours. Croissants are the star of the show in this little gem located in the heart of Terrytown. You can get them stuffed with fruit or cream cheese (my favorite). They are made fresh, are absolutely delicious and at $ 2, the price can’t be beat. They also have bear claws and turnovers. Another thing that is unique about Hi Do is the fact that you can order one of their specialty king cakes all year long, even during the «off» season. That could make a great treat if you need something to hold you over until parade season comes around again.
My only complaint: they are cash and check only. No credit cards accepted. Understandable, because the place is a small family owned business, but still annoying if you find yourself here without cash in hand.
