As average, run-of-the-mill Tex-Mex goes, I’ve always considered Amigo Juan to be holding their own around middle of the pack. I’ve never gone out of my way to go there, but if I found myself with folks that suggested it, I always felt safe that I would have an enjoyable meal with friendly and attentive service. I was never disappointed until yesterday and while for the most part the food was unchanged from its usual«adequately average», the treatment I got over what should have been a small issue will keep me from ever going back. . Our food came quickly, was piping hot, and appeared to be correct. After a couple of bites, however, it seemed my cheese Enchilada was made using a flour rather than a corn tortilla. I almost let the whole thing slide, but then decided to speak up and ask for it to be remade only because I was really looking forward to the cheese Enchilada and made with a flour tortillas it was just a gummy mess. I called our waitress over who responded that she would have to «check on it «and quickly disappeared. A different lady came to the table, who I learned was Maria, the owner. At this point I still just assumed they would make one new Enchilada for me and call it a day, but Ms Maria was having none of it. For starters, I was simply wrong that a flour tortilla was used. She assured me that all enchiladas were made with corn tortillas. But remember, the darn thing is on my plate, right in front of me at the time. I pointed out that you could tell by how it looked that it was a flour tortilla. MARIA then explained to me that I obviously don’t know the difference between a flour and a corn tortilla Again, I’m looking at it, I’m touching it, I’m even tasting it, and it’s clearly a flour tortilla. Maria said she would get me an Enchilada made with flour so I could see what it was like which seemed a bit ridiculous since I had one on my plate already… that’s kind of the whole point, right? Well as quickly as she appeared, lovely Maria disappeared. In just minutes she was back, an Enchilada in each hand. She brought one made with corn and one with flour, proceeds to cut each open and then explains the differences and let me tell you, all three enchiladas looked the same. It was around this time Maria revealed that even though these didn’t look like typical corn tortillas, I could be assured they WERE corn and that they use three different kinds of corn tortilla, and this was just one of them… well it’s the ONE that’s a dead ringer for flour! I asked her why she was so intent on arguing with me. She then assured me that she WASN’T arguing with me because she wouldn’t argue with a customer, she(y’all ready for this one?) Was just showing me that I was wrong! Never was there an offer to get me something else, never was there any acknowledgement that the tortillas were suspect, and never was there an offer to adjust the bill, there was only a condescending display and patronizing demonstration to prove to me and everyone else close by, that I was very wrong and Maria was right. Now I’ve known the difference between flour and corn since I was about 12, she admitted they use different kinds of corn tortillas for different dishes, so it’s my guess that they use one with a high flour content for the cheese enchiladas and they are not good, but whatever you do, don’t bring it up to Maria! If she were an employee there I’d give it another go, but this behavior came from the owner. There are truly GOOD restaurants in town where you get appreciated, not attitude. I’ll go to one of them next time.

We stopped here on our way back to Texas after having had a mediocre experience at a restaurant down the street the last time we came through. This place was just what the doctor ordered. The salsa, tomatillo salsa, and quest blanco were great. The strawberry punch was also tasty. I enjoyed the taco and tamale. The cheese enchilada could have been better. The charro beans were very good, even above expectations. The service was quick and cheerful. We will definitely return!

It has been a while since we have been here. We received a gift certificate so we thought we’d try it out. The food was good. My wife had the trio fajitas and said it was great! Monica waited on us and we had excellent service and smiles.

Love to eat here every time I drive in from Dallas which is usually every weekend. Food is great and staff has been wonderful. My only issue I have had is when I order a cocktail it always has a weird taste to it. I’ve tried the margaritas and another drink that had the word«Shark» in it, can’t remember exactly what it was, but every time I get that nasty taste. That is my only complaint here.
