Fuji, Kim’s Sushi & Grill

Service was great and sushi was decent, I’ve had better. The price was a little on the high side for nigiri.

I wish I would have heeded the previous reviews, however in town for work and really, really wanted some sushi.
Allow me to note the positives. The location clean, service was swift and top notch, and food was fresh.
However
What bothered me was the portions, and looking at prior reviewers, I am not the only one. I ordered 3 rolls, quite hungry, Crazy Roll ($ 13.50), Fuji Special Roll ($ 13.50)and Yam Yam roll ($ 6.95). The rolls were all roughly the size of a regular California roll. The yam yam roll even smaller than that. All the rolls were overloaded with rice, very very small amounts of fillers, several pieces didn’t even have all ingredients or none at all. There is zero value here, and honestly, left sorta hungry.
Also, the rolls didn’t have any identity. Crazy roll and Fuji special could have been identical. Saturated in same sauce and spicy tuna, completely took over the rolls. Yam Yam roll had a tiny sliver of scallop and a dallop of «yam yam sauce» on top, which honestly just tasted like Kewpie (Japanese mayo)
I don’t want to sound entirely negative, there is merit here. It’s just not acceptable to have such small portions, size of rolls and portions of ingredients they contain. There is no balance between the two. This wouldn’t be the first place I have experienced such a disparity, but this is definitely one of the worst offenders. Possible the lack of competition has allowed this to happen.
40 $ and left hungry

I travel a lot for work. I knew I had eaten here at some point but couldn’t recall if I liked it. I had a long day and I was in a hurry and had just worked a 12 hr day so I just Unilocaled «sushi.» Too bad I didn’t see my prior review because I ordered the same darned thing. The dragon roll still had a small piece of shrimp tempura inside, surrounded by a lot of rice and topped with small amount of eel and avocado — such a waste of money for $ 13! The eel sauce is more like teriyaki sauce. The rainbow roll was a waste. Again, more rice and small choppy pieces of sushi on top. All this for a whopping $ 27!
The very nice hostess that took my to go order suggested I have the yum yum sauce (some sort of mayo based sauce.) I was grateful because it definitely helped to cover up the fact the the sushi was just sub par at best.
I saw all these local sushi awards for 2014 on the wall. Maybe there’s just no competition nearby because this place wouldn’t last at these prices in Dallas 6 months. I hate to post a bad review but come on– step up your game Mr Kim.

It is OK if you want Americanized Japanese food. However, it is nothing to rave about.

The best option for sushi in Texarkana. Not great by any means but certainly the best option in town.

Nice little Japanese restaurant here. Service was great but sushi is just so so. I liked their galbi bbq dish though. It comes with brown rice, which was really good.

I have never had anything that was not excellent. The owners are awesome, the servers are on top of things, and the food is outstanding. (:

We apparently arrived for lunch (around 1pm) on a bad day. According to our waiter, «so-​and-​so went home early because we weren’t busy, so it’s just Mister Kim back there.» Consequently the service was very slow … not because of our apologetic waiter, but because a bunch of customers decided to show up for lunch … surprise!
The sushi was fairly fresh but the value ratio was off. $ 30 for 12 VERY thin cuts of sashimi, and $ 6 for a two-​piece order of sushi, is just off-​kilter. We’ve seen prices that high and cuts of fish that thin, but never at the same time. Either cutting the prices or fattening the cuts of fish is in order.
This was a tough one — if we could do 2.5 stars that would fit, but make it three just because everybody has a bad day every once in a while.

Great service from Candice. Fresh, clean and sweet place to dine. Ordered huedubop, spider and a few rolls. Yummy, fresh and again great teamwork and service.

Best sushi in Texarkana hands down. Family owned local restaurant that know there customers by name. Great family atmosphere.

This sushi place is hands down the best in town. Being locally owned and family operated (by the Kim family) keeps customer service and product consistently high. A Texarkana Treasure.

Always consistent delicious sushi, amazing service and family run. I recommend this place to anyone who wishes to live their lives to the fullest. Don’t look back on your life and say… Man, I wish I would have had the best sushi in Texarkana. It’s your life, do the right thing.

Best sushi in town! The Kims are also the kindest people! Try any of their sushi rolls. I love the Korean Kimbob roll.

Comparable to places I’ve eaten at in bigger cities. If you really enjoy sushi and creativity, sit at the sushi bar and ask for the ‘chef special’ roll, it’s always different, delicious and interesting.

Such a nice relaxing lunch with my mom here today. Good miso soup, hot green tea on a cold, dreary day. Followed by shrimp tempura noodles and fried rice. Great food and service. See you next time in town.

I’ve been to many sushi places around Texas and this one is pretty good but nothing to write home about.
The sushi is average-​priced and tastes really good. I think the cheapest roll is just under $ 6 and the most expensive is around $ 20.
A bowl of miso or chicken soup is $ 1.99 which is about how much it is anywhere.
The sashimi menu is lacking, at best. There are only a few options and all of them are way overpriced. Needless to say, I didn’t order any sashimi even though it is my favorite thing in a sushi joint. I can’t remember exact prices, but I do remember thinking that for only six pieces it should be priced about $ 10 less.
The beer is also overpriced but I expected as much. A bottle of Shiner Bock was a hair under $ 4. Could’ve bought a 6-​pack for the price of two beers.
Overall, this place isn’t too bad if you’re just looking to eat sushi and nothing fancy. The service is good, food tastes good, and environment is very good.

Man. This place sucked. I know, I know, shame on me for expecting to find decent sushi in Texarkana, Tx. Way over priced for the sushi rolls I ordered. Very skimpy with the eel & soft shell crab. Service was ok. But you can get better sushi at Kroger.

I adore this place and eat here frequently for lunch. The Kims (owners) are always here and greet us warmly. Service is always quick and attentive. Sushi here is very good, and I have eaten sushi all over the country. Keep up the good work guys!

Disclaimer: I am from Houston and I’ve had the best of the best in terms of Asian food.
The bulgogi is okay, but the chicken katsu is absolutely horrible. The entire dish is not what it’s supposed to be. I didn’t have enough guts to try the sushi. I was pretty disappointed, but I guess I shouldn’t have such high expectations for Asian food in a smaller town.
