Old Tyme Burger Shoppe & Catering

What can I say, Old Tyme Burger Shoppe is about as delicious as it gets. Granted I haven’t tried a ton of things, every time I go, the burger cries out to me but the people I’ve been with have had the chili, the taco salad, fried pies and fried catfish… And to my recollection everyone, without exception, has said how delicious the food is… and how surprising it was that the non burger is so delicious at a burger shoppe.
I will say that it is not the best fries I’ve ever had, but the burger more than makes up for the ‘just decent’ fries.
My regular order is a cheeseburger with mushrooms and jalapenos and I am never disappointed. I keep asking for Tabasco for my fries and I don’t know why I do, the jalapenos give enough of a kick for my meal.
Every other time or so I’ll get a pie as well and it is to die for! Buttermilk and strawberry are my favorite. But their coconut meringue is about as beautiful as they get. Like seriously.
One time I went there and it wasn’t just delicious food and a good time, it was AN EXPERIENCE. Randy, the guy who is usually taking our order, for those of you that don’t know, was a professional singer for a long while before he went into the restaurant (and estate sale) biz. And one time we were there and his long-​time accompanist and friend walked in ordered food, put her purse down and went to the piano and started playing. She proceeded to go back to her table eat, and then when she was done she went back and played again. Then! Randy came around and they went through a small portion of their repertoire from their hey-​day. It was quite a dining experience.
Anyhoo, a great little gem in a … great little town…

I never get to enjoy these burgers since I don’t live in Texarkana anymore, but I was passing through and had to stop. I know now that I should’ve gotten a double so that I could enjoy more hand-​formed sizzle, meaty goodness. The fries are still the average frozen frites, but this is the Olde Tyme Burger Shoppe, not Frye Shoppe.

OTH makes a great, hand-​made hamburger. Their catfish is large and moist. Their regular fries are very good to excellent. Their pies are wonderful. The chocolate is the best restaurant chocolate pie I’ve ever had. Their buttermilk pie is wonderful.

A good burger for your money. I give it four stars because of the freshness of the burger. Everything else depends on the day and time that u come. Service can vary from happy and friendly to rude and obnoxious. It is a small area and kind of divey but a good experience on a good day. give it a chance. or two.

Unremarkable… Well, except for how long we waited. I blame Siri for leading me here as a top Texarkana place to eat.

For a burger place I give it better than average. Seasoned fries were crispy, burger was non-​greasy, counter staff was friendly and even asked about my day and offered to send me off with a to-​go drink.

Great Burger! Highly recommend. Only issue is it takes awhile to get your food. At least it’s cooked to order.

ate my peice of homemade coconut cream pie while waiting for burger — aswas the burger – handmade patty of good tasting beef was cooked well and tasted very nice! Malt and FF were ok but would stop again for pie and a burger anytime!

First, If your a visitor to the area like me, you don’t have to order by the (place order here) sign. lol They will come to your table to take your order. I had the basic breakfast, eggs, hashbrowns, sausage, and toast. All of it good and cooked right. Service was good, after I ordered at the register. I did leave a little hungry though, portions are not that big. Next tyme I’ll have to stick to the burgers I guess.

Nine of us went here to eat tonight. We all like it alot. We also liked Joe, our server, bunches. Great burgers and the fried pies (which we tried the chocolate, peach and apple) and the non-​fried pies: buttermilk and chocolate meringue were yummy. The favorites were the peach fried pie and the buttermilk pie. Fries were better than the onion rings. Definitely will go back when in the area– I’m so full I could bust. Thanks, Joe.

The Old Tyme Burger Shoppe is possibly the best restaurant in town that doesn’t double as a tombstone devoted to the death of flavor. They get their hamburger meat from a nearby butcher who also grinds the meat from a single loin of beef (and if you know anything about hamburger you’ll know that that is the only way to do it right). They also serve pies and cakes that are often made just next door in the adjacent bakery if not made from scratch at home. The staff is friendly and the prices are very reasonable for the excellence you are getting. I even think their corn dogs are hand dipped. EAT HERE (especially if you aren’t going to be a fan of the flavorless slabs of salt that passes for food in the rest of town)!
