We rented a 4-wheeler for a day while vacationing in Northern Maine and had a great time on the trails! The fall foliage was beautiful and Rachel at Backcountry Expeditions recommended a few full day trip options and we decided on the Greenville loop where we stopped for coffee and lunch. We had a minor equipment malfunction on the way back, but Backcountry Expeditions responded quickly and even discounted our day rate due to the problem. We would definitely rent again to explore the many other trail options. Great customer service. Great trails.

We went on the sunset ATV(SxS) tour last weekend and had a blast. The ATVs were almost new and our guide Sandy took through some really fun and challenging trails. We drove up to Moxie Lake, which was beautiful at dusk, and it got dark as we came back. The vehicle’s headlights were more than adequate, and it was really fun coming back down the rocky trails in the dark. The staff was super friendly and helpful, all part of the Northern Outdoors family! This was a great family activity, and I highly recommend it!!!

Rented two 550cc sleds for two days. The Good: Service was very friendly, answered all of our questions, and help showed up quickly when one of our sleds had mechanical issues. The Bad: The part where one of our sleds had mechanical issues. They actually both did, and the issues looked more like an problem with maintenance than bad luck. Mine had a broken electric starter on arrival. This wasn’t an issue at first but by the second day the engine would routinely flood and the pull starter would barely get it started. The other sled had a spark plug fall fully out of the cylinder on the trail. We were able to ride it to a lodge on one cylinder where help arrived and that when we learned what the problem was. I understand that things happen, but in over a decade of dealing with bikes, scooters, etc I’ve never seen a properly tightened plug fall all the way out of an engine. Help was very appreciated, but it would have just taken the same events with slightly worse timing to leave us stranded in the woods. Short Version: Very nice staff, very helpful when things go wrong, but the chances of things going wrong seems higher than it needs to be. If I had to rent from them again I’d refuse a sled with broken parts, and I’d double check things like belt wear and spark plugs before leaving.
