These reviews must all be fake because that place was terrible! It was dirty and they have special gringo pricing; not to mention the food, lets not even go there, I don’t want you to lose your appetite.

An absolute treat. We found this place while traveling and it was fantastic. I Highly recommend stopping by and enjoying the food. The chorizo tacos were flawless, and the guacamole was possibly the best I’ve ever had. PS The beer is ice cold.

I still think that this is definitely the best Mexican around mobile. The food feels authentic and tastes amazing. My favorite dish to get here is the lengua tacos, which is cow tongue. I know it sounds odd, but you will be surprised by how much you like it! One of the main reasons I love going here is the atmosphere. To an unadventurous eye it does look a bit frightful. When you pull up to the restaurant there is a barb wire fence that surrounds the place. After you enter to the left there is a little convenience store where you can buy your favorite Latin American soccer jersey and a assortment of meats. On Sunday you can buy tamales, which are fantastic! Right outside the store there is a three foot Jesus statue that’s adds an air authenticity to the place. Adjacent the store is the restaurant. It is a small, humble looking place that is always playing a tela novela or a soccer gam on an old school big screen. They seem to have a loyal patronage. The place always as a several scattered people eating. All in all it makes you feel like you are back in Latin America! That is what I love most about it!

Went here today for lunch and honestly the place looked shady but we still went in. It is very delicious authentic Mexican food. I ordered a gordita de asada, a taco de lengua and a taco de asada. I also had their agua de horchata. I definitely recommend this place, don’t be scared of the outside, just walk in and past the cashier into the dinning area. You won’t regret it. They served my food with green salsa that was awesome, not too spicy and some guac which had a bit of a kick to it. Would most definitely eat here again, I’m a mexican and am real picky about the Mexican food I eat, so this should really say something.

I’ve been here twice, and was impressed both times. They don’t always have everything in their menu, as they run out, but what they have is authentic and delicious. It’s also a great place to practice your Spanish. I never miss eating here when I’m in Mobile.

Off the beaten path but well worth the stop. My husband, myself and 3 teenagers stopped here as we are from Texas and love real Mexican food. It was amazing best Mexican food we’ve ever had. Everyone was super friendly and the food was authentic and mouth watering. We’ll definitely be back.

Came to mobile for a few weeks for work. Being from california, I had tried a couple of Mexican joints in the area and was disappointed. That was until I came across this taco joint. Tacos were very good. I had the chorizo and thought they were delicious. One thing though! This place might come across as a little sketchy as it looks like a house in a lot. But don’t let that stop you from trying the food!

When we pulled into the parking lot here, we almost turned right around and kept driving. It was so tiny that we were certain we had stumbled upon someone’s home by accident. I am SO glad that we poked around. This place was amazing! Staff was very friendly; we were there for about 20 – 25 minutes, and they checked in to make sure everything was OK at least three times. Anyway, we got a little bit of everything: a quesadilla, a fajita plate, and some tacos. It was all delicious– served with rice and beans, limes, and cucumber and radishes for added freshness. I sometimes dislike using this word to describe food, but the word authentic comes to mind again and again. Food is served with your choice of salsa roja or verde– both are SPICY, so buyer beware. The only reason I’m giving the restaurant 4 stars as opposed to 5 is that they didn’t have ice water for drinking… what?

We stumbled across this restaurant driving through Alabama and what a pleasant surprise! Such a great authentic Mexican experience. The food was outstanding! Be careful of the salsa– it’s delicious but it is HOTT… Not for the faint of heart. We had the tacos asada(maybe the best steak taco of my life) and pork tacos(also some of the best pork I’ve had in a while). Get a Coke– it’s authentic Mexican cola and you won’t regret it. Prices were outstanding– very affordable for what you get! Waitresses and staff were delightful. Overall, 5 stars!

Have to admit, the place looks like your pulling up to someone’s house, and looks a little sketchy… However, don’t be alarmed. The inside is very simple and a restaurants décor is something I really could care less about. The important part for me is the food. Ok so I got the tacos, steak, chicken, and pastor. Let me tell you … WoW! The flavor was amazing! Authentic! And I have traveled all over Mexico. This restaurant was better! Food priced low. Honestly best Mexican restaurant that I have ever tried Server was nice and tentative, spoke«english». FYI, In Mexico they will not give you the check until you ask for it, this is normal so do not be afraid to ask. If the most important thing for you is food, flavor, and authenticity, this is the place to go

Me and my home girl stopped here whilst road tripping from Atl to Nola and it was the bomb dot com. Both had fajitas. Chicken and shrimp. Seasoning is amazing. Salsas too. Sure, we were reluctant on account of the«divey» categorization and the fact that no one spoke English but we thought, why not?! Seriously delicious. Dare I say the best Mexican I ever had? I think it just might be. And the crowd was really great, two kind gents treated us to a cold brew. Highly recommend.

Okay, where to begin, lets start with the service… it was okay, however there is nothing to brag about, we were shown an old table under a screen porch, this I can live with as I lived in south Texas for many years and this just seemed normal to me. The waitress too our order quick, then we just waited, I made the comment to my wife that this was the first Mexican restaurant that did not serve chips and salsa… anyway the food came out in about 30 min, I ordered their burrito and my wife a chicken dish. the burrito was nothing more that some overcooked meat in a flower tortilla, my wife’s chicken dish was not too bad, it was served with some home made salsa and corn tortilla’s…for this I would say the place was not too bad… But that is NOT why I am writing this review, this is why… two days after eating at this place I get a notification from my bank saying my CREDITCARDWASCOMPROMISED. I only used my card at this establishment and none other, now there are a few things that piss me off and this is one of them, I can live with the crap food and shitty service, but when you use my personal information in an in appropriate way and betray my trust in your business, then you have crossed the line… And by the way, my wife is a fluent Spanish speaker and she told me that the accents from the workers were NOT Mexican, but Dominican… so much for authentic.

About as good as you’ll find for a taqueria from Mobile to New Orleans and it’ll hold its own just about anywhere. As others have said, it’s not fancy and some basic Spanish will be helpful in ordering, but don’t let that stop you from going. Also, it’s not called Las Gemelas(at least as of Sept. 2014), it is called Playa Azul and the new phone number is 251−753−8745. The address is correct — it has a fence around it and shares a parking lot with a small Mexican grocery. They serve beer(I don’t know what all brands, but they have Modelo and Negra Modelo, and I think I saw Corona and Dos Equis — no idea about other brands). The carnitas were some of the best I’ve had anywhere and the ceviche is good, too. If you’re traveling on I10, it isn’t too far out of the way. Old Pascagoula is north of I10, running parallel. It’s on the south side of the road, about 2 miles west of the Hwy 90 exit and 2 miles east of the Theodore-Dawes Road exit.

Fantastic find, first time staying in Mobile on my way to Dallas and we were craving real Mexican not Tex-Mex and boy does this deliver! Please note not a fancy place and it takes time to get your order but oh so worth the little wait when they serve you homemade corn tortillas and made to order taco filing as it should be with onion, cilantro and limes on the side. The place is clean the service friendly and the menu in both English and Spanish, so if you don’t speak Spanish please point you will not regret. And please note there is no gringo pricing the deal is 4.99 for lunch and 6.99 for dinner if you want 3 tacos, rice and beans!

Best authentic Mexican restaurant in Mobile! Food is great and fresh and they recently renovated the dining room with nicer furnishing. The food is also a great bargain. So, if you truly want fantastic tacos with a large selection of meats ranging from shrimp, chicken, el pastor, asada, tripe, cow tongue… you name it, they can make it and at a price point that won’t hurt your wallet. Also, on the weekends, you must try the menudo! It is the best dish they have. For those who don’t know what menudo is, it’s a tripe hearty soup garnished with fresh onion, lime, cilantro, and jalapenos.

I’ve lived in the Theodore area for six years now and I always saw this place(though the name has changed) and wanted to go, but never have. We figured it had to be good. I grew up in Texas and my husband is from California so we both have experienced taco stands such as this one and are not scared away. I’m so glad we finally stopped there. The menu is fairly simple. There are combo meals and you can choose either a burrito, 3 tacos or a quesadilla(the menu accidentally implies that the quesadilla and burrito are one meal, but they aren’t) and all come with rice and beans. All come with a very spicy salsa verde(green sauce). I think it’s a serrano sauce, which is hotter than jalapeño, but I didn’t ask so I don’t know for sure. The burrito and tacos are very bare bones. It is seasoned meat and cilantro. They serve it with lime wedges. Those are $ 4.75. For a little extra, you can get a «salad». My assumption is that this is the lettuce and tomatoes that we American’s like on our Mexican food. The meat selection is enormous. They have chorizo, steak, chicken and all kinds of others. They even have lamb and tripe! I got the 3 taco meal and got chorizo, steak and chicken. My husband and son got the steak burrito meal. The food was REALLY good, but each of us had a problem with the steak because it had a lot of gristle in it. That was disappointing. In fact, that’s the reason for losing a star. My chorizo and chicken was delicious though and no problems there. They offer other dinners outside of combos. Those are $ 9.99. We got ours for take out, so we had to wait for a time. They have two large TVs in there and both are on a Spanish channel. It’s true that the folks there barely speak English, but we were in luck. There was a cute girl there that speaks English, like a native. She obviously grew up here and anyway, it was helpful. Still, the menus are in both English and Spanish and what appears to be the owner lady speaks just enough to communicate basic needs like«take out» and what you order, etc. All in all, it’s a great place. I highly recommend it, but I’d avoid steak. Maybe ground beef would be better. It was pouring down rain during our visit, so next time I’ll take a picture of the new sign with its new name and address. The address here is fine, but off just a tad. It’ll get you there anyway and the sign isn’t blue anymore. Just a FYI. UPDATE: I realized that I have the name and address on my receipt! Until Unilocal fixes it, it is now called Tienda La Morenita and the address now is 6295 Old Pascagoula Rd. There are two buildings on the property. The restaurant moved into the building on the right. The one on the left is now a Mexican grocer.
