Philip J. Rotella Memorial Golf Course

Take the drive up here and check this place out. Played last week on a Tuesday for $ 60 which included golf, cart and lunch! The course is on the shorter side but the holes go up and down the mountain side and there are a lot of blind shots. It’s definitely more challenging then my local course. The only issue we had was with an old grumpy ranger. The cart rules were 90 degrees which we abided with no problem. On one hole on the back nine we were traveling up the patch because there were ropes blocking you from driving onto the rough. Then the ropes stopped which meant to us (all veteran golfers) that we could continue to drive at 90 degrees. Well apparently that was not the case. And instead of talking to us like the grown adults we are he decided to scream at us like we were a couple of school children who are playing ring and run at his house. We tried to explain the situation to the man but he wasn’t having it. Listen guy, go home and be a miserable bastard to yourself, don’t ruin our day off on the links in which we paid good money for.

I enjoy this course a good amount.
Difficulty (3 Stars)
Not the most difficult course in the entire world, but definitely challenging enough for you to have a good time.
Greens (4 Stars)
Ive never had any issues here as far as inferior greens. Always well maintained.
Pace of play (3 stars)
I have had my fair share of round stuck behind a rather slow group, but the ranger is always willing to give them a heads up on their pace. I would say normally a 4, 4 and a quarter round.
The grill inside is a good place to grab a drink and some food as well. Overall ill frequent this place all summer.

Not a great course by any means. There are not a lot of challenges, it’s honestly quite boring. Water plays into a few holes, but there is no risk/​reward for trying to take a line with water on a fly. One interesting par 3 on the front (plays off a very elevated tee box). Conditions are not bad, greens rolled true and were in good shape. Rough was chewed up, fairways were wide and not bad.
So why two stars? PACE OF PLAY!!! We were stick behind two groups who were playing like they were in the PGA championship. I called the pro shop to ask if a ranger could come out to speed things up, and nada. Nobody trying to make things move. Our 8:50AM tee time was 20m late — making the round well over 5hrs.
Hard to have any rhythm or tempo get going when u take a 20min break between shots. I expressed my frustration the the rep in the pro shop, his response: «I just got in, there’s nothing I can do about it.» please.
DEFINITELY NOT a $ 75/​rnd course. $ 40 – 50 would be reasonable.

Great town course. Have only played on a weekday and pace of play has been great. Tough to schedule times on a weekend as a non-​resident. All the pins have the mirrors on top for your yardage scope, which I’ve rarely seen on a municipal course.
Fun track with plenty of elevation changes and can be challenging with some shot-​making holes and tight tee shots. No. 5 is one of my favorite par 3’s with a severely elevated tee box.
Awesome special on Monday & Wednesday that includes cart and lunch for $ 60. The lunch is not some cheap pre-​made sandwich either. Well worth the trip and toll coming from the city.

this is a great course to play in rockland county. the greens are huge and in great shape. doglegs, and elevation changes are evident here, as well as a few holes where your ball is in the fairway… yet the ball is a foot below/​above your feet. good luck having a level lie on any shot past your first. very enjoyable track to play without a doubt. it’s got your classic downhill par 3, followed by one of the harder holes in rockland county. if you are wondering whether to give this place a shot, go right ahead. i doubt you will walk away unsatisfied. with the course that is…
