Love the taco salads. Great chips and guac/salsa as well. So thankful that there is finally a place closer to home with great food(sit in or take out!)

I went to Casa Herrera, although I had read mixed reviews. I found the food to be quite good, served hot and the waitress was very pleasant. Margaritas were also quite good. Next time I go, I will ask for hot sauce on the side, as the food was a bit mild for my taste. All in all a good experience at reasonable prices.

Found this very local place thanks to Unilocal. I love the décor, great atmosphere — especially for the younglings. The service is very friendly and they check up on you. The food was good, healthy portions no complaints. The food is not too spicy, so order some hot sauce on the side. :-) I like the bar inside, but was misquoted on a happy hour drink, no biggie. Overall we enjoyed this place; it is very convenient for us so we will return soon when we are in the mood for Mexican.

One of my favorite places. I love the margaritas and half price happy hour. The chicken tortilla soup is amazeballs. And the tamales and horcheta are on point

Last time I went the tacos of chorizo were bad the meat was expire, me being Mexican I spot it right away but for some not knowing the smell of it would be seriously sick if they eat it. I get 2 stars cause not all the food is bad this is the list I try so far and they were good: tacos de carnitas, enchiladas verdes, tamales verdes, tacos de lengua. Bad choices: tacos de chorizo, cocktel de camaron(the shrimp tasted awfull, like frozen burn), the chips were old.

Starting with the chips and salsa, not bad, not great. Chips were average tricolor, the salsa was more like fresh tomatoes run through a food processor and garnished with julienne cilantro, not very flavorful or good consistency. The Cheese Dip was just melted cheese but that is what the menu states, the Guacamole was fresh avocado but bland, needed to add salt and the side of minced jalapeños served on the side. The house burrito with steak was okay, nothing special, and the Parrillada Azteca was bland as well. Although the menu states«marinated» the meats lacked flavor, thin and dryly over cooked. The toreados and cactus were good, but the dish needed salsa/hot sauce to add flavor and moisture. All in, nothing special, nothing to make us want to go back.

My wife and I love this place. The food is really good. We’ve tried one other Mexican place in the area since we moved here and it was night and day. So far we really like their homemade salsa, enchiladas, and chimichangas. It always seems a bit empty and I don’t know why because we love it. So much so that I felt compelled to write a review.

The 4 stars are all for your super sweet and attentive server who was working last Thursday afternoon. She was a total sweetheart. The food is 3 stars, though. The chips and salsa were yum. I was happy the salsa was topped w/fresh chopped cilantro. Most of my family hates cilantro b/c they’re a bunch of weirdos, so it’s a pleasant surprise when I get something that is unexpectedly super cilantro-y. I ordered the sopes de la casa w/chicken and they were on my table so incredibly fast, like not even 5 minutes. The sopes were piping hot(yay!), the chicken was warm(eh), and the toppings were cold(yay!). I would like to say to the chef: don’t be afraid of going all out w/flavor! My food was ok, but it could have been amazing w/a little salt, some spices added to the chicken, and maybe a little lime or lemon juice on the lettuce/tomatoes/in the crema. I mean, maybe people who live in Thorndale hate flavor, but I’m willing to bet they’d be pretty ok w/a little extra something. Anyways, I was in and out in about 30 minutes and was full w/pretty good food, so huzzah!

Since opening day last October I’ve visited this establishment quite often. And I’m happy to report that it’s improving — although still with an issue or two to iron out. The menu has become a bit simpler, which is probably good overall. The service has vastly improved in speed, efficiency and courtesy. The food continues to be well seasoned and otherwise prepared. But gripes? There are still a few. The guacamole is poor. It is remarkably bland in flavor and often too moist. To counteract this persistent problem order limes on the side. The salsa served tableside together with chips is not bad, but it’s a bit too watery and surprisingly bland. The heat is definitely in short supply. But most distressing of all is this establishment’s consistent bugaboo: their inability to serve food that is sizzling hot. It can’t be too difficult. How many Mexican restaurants have you visited where the fajitas were served on a platter that steamed, spat and sizzled, by a waiter with a welding glove up to his or her elbow? Never fear. That will not be the case at Casa Herrera. Here the fajitas — and all other menu items — are served merely warm. Mind you this is an improvement over stone cold — which was the case on my first few visits. But it’s still the greatest disappointment at a restaurant that otherwise satisfies. Psst … Herrera… try heating the plates. Hot food tends to lose its heat rapidly when placed onto a cold plate. BTW, the Margarita Nalgona is recommended. Highly. Still hoping for piping hot, properly spicy food… and good guacamole. But otherwise I’m a happy patron.

My first visit. Having lived in Denver Colorado we have very high expectations. We were delighted to see green chili which you do not see very often. The service was good and the food authentic. The salsa was good but it would be great if they offer a hotter version as an option. My tamales were bland but the tortilla soup was innovative and tasty. My wife had taco salad and it was fresh and good. Prices are reasonable It looks like an old Pizza Hut restaurant but inside was very colorful with Mexican furniture and fixtures. In sum, I would say this is the best in our area. So the 3 stars really indicate my high expectations instead of a ranking in the area. We will visit again and I would suggest you give it a try

I stopped in tonight, a frozen bitter windy cold night. I wanted 2 tamales to go, a beer at the bar, and to make reservations for Friday. Everything was spot on, but… They seemed a bit understaffed. It could be the bad weather. I forgive. The manager was amazingly friendly and accommodating. I can not wait till Friday. Big group. Casa Herrera has a heads up! Buen Provecho! BTW, The tamales were very good!!!

2 stars for: dinners that tasted just okay; service and food preparation that was poor; and salsa that was underwhelming. Three adults arrived on a slow weekday evening. When we arrived, there were 3 – 4 tables with small groups and families. We were greeted with a friendly host who promptly brought chips and salsa. The salsa was a bowl of thinned, watery, lightly seasoned red juice. Except for the cilantro floating on top, there was nothing to dip with the chips. We nearly finished the basket of chips before a server arrived to take our drink order. While waiting for our order of enchilada dinners, another basket of chips arrived. More wait time for dinner and our server asked is she could refill our drinks. More uncomfortable wait time for our dinner to arrive and our server assured us our food would be arriving shortly and asked if we wanted more chips. More wait time for dinner to arrive, and when the server returned, only two of our three plates appeared. The third dinner arrived 3 – 5 minutes later. All of our dinners were served at a lukewarm temperature. Worse than waiting a long time to be served at a cool temperature was the preparation of the lingering third dish was remarkably different than the other two. The last dish to arrive had refried beans sprinkled with cheese, the others didn’t. The last dish was swimming in Verde sauce, the others were dry by comparison. Not surprising, the wait for the bill was exceedingly long. I could not find any server in the restaurant to move this process forward, so we continued our conversations over dirty dishes left on the table.

I have a great appreciation for authentic Mexican fare. I can tell a good sangria from a mile away. Regarding the sangria, it is totally top shelf and served in a glass that could house a bowling ball-and for $ 9.50 is a good deal. Chips and salsa are spot on. Guacamole is not the best I have ever had but entirely palatable. They are about three stars out of five on the entrees, however, if you choose to upgrade the beef it is well worth it! Lastly, they did a great job with the décor. The booths feel very authentic with hand-painted scenes of El Paso country. Wait staff is also very pleasant. Visited twice with plans to return again.

2.5 stars… lunch, 2 adults, 1 child. The chips & salsa highlighted our meal! All kinds of yum in that salsa! We ordered from the lunch specials. Chicken burrito, veggie enchiladas and a cheese quesadilla. Presentation was good, food looked appetizing and I was quite hungry, hence me devouring the salsa before an order was even placed. Como se dice cheese overload? Oaxaca is most comparable to string cheese so I found it odd to be the only ingredient inside of all our menu selections. It didn’t melt too well either so the inside of my veggie enchiladas that didn’t feature one vegetable tasted similar to a mozzarella stick. Let’s say a Mexican mozzarella stick. My friend thought her meal was sub par as well. This was her second attempt at Casa. The first being disappointing to say the least. Service wasn’t bad but our waitress was seated in a booth eating her lunch with friends during our meal so she took a very long time to check on us and bring out the check.(we were only customers in restaurant.) I probably won’t be heading back, as mozzarella sticks are much more affordable at Giant!

I wanted to love this place because this area deserves a great new dining experience. I went on a Tuesday night after dinner rush(8ish). I was excited to see the décor was colorful and dining area was bright and clean. We were seated immediately into a comfortable booth. Our server was pleasant but did not have a clue about anything on the menu. After reading other reviews, I expected to see an extensive menu but that was not the case. Limited appetizers and basic staples of a Cantina were absent. We didn’t get what we ordered for an app, instead we received a large molcajete filled with a steaming hot soupy tomato base with about a few tablespoons of fresh chopped tomatoes and onions. It was piled with some tortilla chips. Bizarre — it was too soupy to dip and had to move other tortillas out of the way to even try it. I had the stuffed pineapple with shrimp. They use the tiniest, flavorless, bay shrimp(the kind you get in a can). The shrimp was melted with cheese into the core of a half pineapple and that’s it. The picture in the menu looked totally different. I couldn’t get past the smell. It was not pleasant. My friend ordered three different tacos. He ate them and said they were bland. The carnitas taco was better than the others. I asked why he ate something he didn’t care for and he said, «I was just hungry and it’s late». Obviously, the quality of our meal had nothing to do with us coming during prime dinner time. I don’t think the menu or quality of food is dialed-in. I dropped $ 60 including tip and won’t be back.

TODDLERANDVEGETARIANALERT Went here on a whim tonight — had a coupon. Experience was so bad it was actually comical. Busy Saturday night around 6PM — place was packed. It’s in a former Pizza Hut and the décor is clean but unfinished. 20min wait, which was fine, then waited another 15 mins at table before having to ask for waitstaff service. High chair was higher than any I’d ever seen and lacked a belt between the legs to prevent child from slipping through and lacked a seat belt to prevent child from standing up. Menu very limited — one vegetarian option for adults(Chiles Rellenos) and one for kids(Cheese Quesadilla). We asked the waiter about other veg options(specifically if the Fajitas could include some more vegetables than just peppers and onions) and he checked with the kitchen and said(this is verbatim): «the chef said we can make anything you want vegetarian, it just won’t be any good.» Good times. After checking that the Poblanos with Picadillo was vegetarian with the waiter(he said it was and the menu didn’t mention meat) we ordered that and the veg Fajitas. A few minutes later some other guy(assume it was the manager) came out to say«you know, vegetarian Fajitas will just be peppers and onions» — contrary to what the waiter told me. I said fine, that I’d just order the Chilles Rellenos with cheese, the other veg option. It was then that the manager understood we thought the Poblanos with Picadillo was vegetarian and told us it was made with ground beef before he turned to the waiter and said«don’t you know what Picadillo is?» and the waiter replied with a befuddled shrug. So, wife and I both ordered the same thing — the one solitary veg option that presumably might be any good according to the testimony of the kitchen. Kids cheese quesadillas arrived lukewarm, just white rubbery cheese in a flour tortilla, half of it with no cheese at all. The Chiles Rellenos were mediocre/acceptable. The Margaritas in a pitcher came packed very tightly with ice to maximize profit and were nothing special. The salsa was not bad but not great and a paltry portion. Not sure if the guac was fresh made, was hard to tell but it was mediocre. Plaza Azteca in Exton is much, much better. Vegetarians and parents of Toddlers beware!

First Impressions Coming up, I will add my review after eating tonight! Update: due to overwhelming hype about the place, seating times were in the 20 – 30 minute range. Unfortunately, with two kids, that ain’t gonna happen. I’ll post an updated review when I go there for lunch!
