Conejo Valley Botanic Garden

It’s a nice place to bring the kids and has an adventure garden for them that’s open weekends.

(+) I’m happy to see there are places like this around. Very peaceful and beautiful. Also educational if you take time to stop and read the signs… I honestly don’t though haha tl;dr
(+) Paths were clearly marked and trails were easy and relaxing. Lots of mud when I was there though so dress accordingly for that and the weather. Decent amount of shade from the big trees. Loved the creeks and bridges. If you love nature you’ll like this place.
(+) Plenty of parking and it’s free.
(+) Attended a kid’s birthday party here and could tell how much they all enjoyed running around, exploring the garden, having tea parties and playing in the tree house. Back in the day when I was young I’m not a kid anymore but some days I sit and wish I was a kid again.

This place was amazing! Best nature walk/​Hike I’ve ever taken my son on. A little gem for the young ones! So much to explore I’m sure we missed things. Can’t wait to go back!

Absolutely beautiful. Lots of trees and plants. Clearly marked trail paths. Nature hike is awesome. Easy walking and lots of tables and benches for sitting to enjoy the view. You will be in for a beautiful surprise. Completely free but they do accept donations. Kids garden see posted hours. Plants available for sale on Sunday.

Beautiful gardens, very nice walk up the hills and reaching the top. Love that it’s free! But there is a donation box, I recommend giving a little because it’s beautiful and nice and so relaxing.

This is a great and free place to get outside and enjoy nature in Thousand Oaks. The trails are well kept and offer amazing views of you go on the short hikes to the botanic garden. We enjoyed seeing the butterflies in the butterfly plants and it’s perfect for a film outing or a date.

I really enjoyed this garden. I hiked the marvelous nature trail and went to some of their gardens including taking the side trail from the nature trail up to the hilltop desert garden. The nature trail is wonderful in that a lot of it is sheltered by trees so it’s shady and attracts a lot of birds and there is also a scenic bridge across a creek that you encounter on the trail. The big highlight for me was seeing a pack of roadrunners (about 4) in the Tranquility garden. I think they were roadrunners – they looked just like them to me – although I’m not a bird expert. But they were a joy to watch! Although I rated it 4 stars, the experience I had was more like five stars. It’s just that it’s a small area garden, and has few amenities, but I still enjoyed it very much and really I could have easily given it 5 stars. So really my 4 stars should be considered like 4 and a half stars.

We did a quick drop in here — followed our GPS since we’re not from the area. We only got to see the little Adventure Park they have for the kids and their plant sale that goes on on Sundays (Thank goodness the day we went was a Sunday!)
The parking is plentiful and the plant sale was so cute! I found three different succulents to purchase that we didn’t already own (which is really good because we have A LOT OF SUCCULENTS at home). They were INCREDIBLY inexpensive — I ended up donating my change because it was just such a bargain.
The Adventure Park portion for the kids was really cute and a ton of fun even for us grown ups. They have a bee house which is actually a dog igloo that’s been painted (SO CREATIVE!) and a hidden area to have a garden tea party. I loved it. What a fun place! I best not forget to mention their super adorable treehouse! A must see.
One star off because there’s not really any signage to help you find the rest of the botanic garden. Of course, if we’d had more time, I’m sure we would have found it eventually — there’s a map in front of the Adventure Park area to show you where to go.

Disappointed it was closed. No idea why except a sign saying coyote are raising their young and to watch small children.

This is a great place to bring kids! The kids especially liked the kids botanical garden, which is open on Sundays from 11am to 3pm.
They have a nice hike that is about a mile long that goes around the area, with views of the surrounding area, including the mall. A fun day.

Actually this is a nice, quiet place to stroll. Some plants are well marked. I’m not a fan of dogs allowed on the trail, but they were leashed.

When you’re at the park looking up into the Gardens you don’t think much of it, in fact it looks tiny from the park but once you enter the gate you can take a nice little stroll up to see some exotic fruit trees (but don’t touch the fruit… it is forbidden ;)) Or you can take other little paths to see different types of Oak trees and plants. Not much in the way of flowers as you would think of for a garden but what I enjoyed most was the ¾ mile hike through here– it at first doesn’t look too pretty but once you get around that turn the pretty picks up and you are covered in by big Oak Trees and lovely Wood Lined path’s along side a stream of flowing water. This ends at a kids Garden center of little art pieces.
This isn’t no Descanso Gardens or the Aborteumn NOT AT ALL in comparison… for one iT’S FREE so you really shouldn’t be expecting to see anything special. This place has lots of park benches some at the top that overlook Thousand Oaks and other benches tucked away off the trails under big Beautiful Oak Trees and just a fantastic place to bring your lunch and enjoy the quiet nature of it all. It’s lined with rock paths that lead you in different directions.

Nice place for running or hiking. They also have a little fountain between Herb Garden and Bird Habitat.

Favorite spot to hang out on a lazy Sunday or go for a jog. They have several bbq’s set up around the park in addition to a large area that can be rented. Mon through Thursday in the spring you can catch a youth baseball game. In the summer they have live music in the park.

This is a nice garden to visit, especially on a sunny day. I enjoyed the australian section which featured proteas and eucalypti. The tranquility section is small, but has a nice view. I didn’t find the herb garden.
The trails are easy to moderate, as a previous reviewer noted. As another previous reviewer says, «this garden is a work in progress,» and that is a statement that I agree with.
Conejo Valley Botanic Garden can be a bit difficult to find, but I found that it is easy to find the Community Center/​Park and just walk to the Garden from there. Admission is free, donations are welcomed. I don’t remember their hours, check here,

This is definitely not the caliber of botanic garden that I am used to, but it’s free so you can’t really say anything bad about it. I visited in November, and much of the vegetation was dormant or dead… maybe I’ll try again in the spring.
The dirt trails are windy and only easy to moderate in difficulty, so I wouldn’t come here for a hike so much as a leisurely stroll.
While the garden itself was only marginally manicured and moderately organized, the views from the top of the garden hill are unrivaled within the suburban Conejo Valley. There are picnic tables at the top in the cactus garden (not that far of a walk, about five minutes), which sets you up for a perfect romantic picnic/​sunset watching experience. It was absolutely beautiful.

This place is clearly someone’s labor of love. It is also pretty clearly a work in progress.
If you’re looking for a garden something like Descanso or the Huntington, you will be disappointed.
The garden consists mostly of what I would describe as nature trails. There are definitely garden-​y areas: a butterfly garden, an herb garden, a salvia garden. But even those are more like part of a series of rustic natural trails than designed gardens.
As I walked up the trails this morning, I surprised several lizards and one cottontail rabbit.
I did not visit the children’s garden, so I can’t comment on it. It looked cool from the outside. It does say that the hours are Sunday only for the children’s garden, but the rest of the gardens are open daily. The sign on the gate today said open 7 am to 5 pm.
This is an excellent place for an exercise walk. Lots of hills and mulchy terrain. Not that interesting from a botanical point of view, but worth returning to for the trails.

This garden boasts 33 acres of unique terrain, nature trails, and specialty gardens including the Kids Adventure Garden. I got there on Sunday just after the Kids Garden had closed. Its hours are VERY RESTRICTIVE: only open 11am to 3pm on Sunday and closed holidays. Now does that make sense??? I am astounded that a garden like this would be closed on the days when people might have more time to use it. Across the road from the park entrance is a large hill with a hiking trail on it.
The Botanic Garden is hidden down a road and is part of a city park that I couldn’t find the entrance to. There were some guys playing horseshoes, and lots of tables for picnics. Other facilities were also available, but no one was using any of them at the time I was there. It is deep in a neighborhood on the hill above the Oaks Mall area.
