Enjoy Music Lessons

My two kids have been taking lessons with Chris and Sarah for about two years now and they really enjoy it. We had tried starting lessons with a music school at first, but I felt like their teaching style was not connecting with the kids and they were beginning to move slowly and lose interest. We were even thinking about maybe quitting music lessons altogether, but we are so glad we decided to give it a try with Chris and Sarah. The kids have been making a lot of progress and seem to really like the material they go through, especially when they’re allowed to choose popular songs to play. Our son has even started writing his own little songs, which was a pleasant surprise to my husband and I. I really appreciate that they try to push the kids to do their best without being overly strict or overly lenient. Their rates are also very reasonable. I’ve been recommending them to a few of our friends, some of which have also begun lessons, and wouldn’t hesitate to continue to recommend them.

Chris has been teaching piano to our two kids for at least 5 years now! He was a lucky find. He is incredibly kind and patient and clearly enjoys his job. He has made my life easier because he comes to my house weekly to teach, so I don’t have to drive more! My kids started from scratch, so we’ve seen him teach from the basics… but we also had a friend in town who wanted to learn music theory, and more advanced stuff (a friend who never had formal training, but who taught himself and was really good) and Chris had no problem teaching at his level, and what he wanted to learn. Our friend was thrilled to have a week of class with Chris.
His style is not focusing on ‘classical music”. Rather he really wants kids to enjoy what they are playing, so often they choose what they want to play (after learning the basics), as well as ultimately giving them the ability to create songs themselves. (At least that is how he teaches my children!)
He puts on a yearly recital with all his students for the parents. They each play two songs, a solo and a duet with him. It’s great to see the little kids play and see them improve over the years.
