We were out for a morning walk when we noticed Mouthful, a fairly new sandwich shop in our neighborhood. It was early and we didn’t really expect them to be open, but we went in to get a look at their menu. When I saw the coconut flan on the menu, I flipped and really wanted to try it. We asked and they had some ready, so we sat down and had it for breakfast! OMG, my mouth waters just talking about it! It was heavenly – even though I am not overly fond of regular flan or even coconut for that matter. This was something exceptional! Light and flavorful, but not overly sweet. Afterwards we found out they were not even open yet – just happy to accomodate us while they got ready to open their doors at 11:00 am. The staff were super friendly as was the owner. I asked for a sample of their Peruvian cheese sauce as well, and it was great. Very spicy but not too hot. We liked it so much that we took some of the coconut flan home for later, and can’t wait to get back to try some of their other dishes, including their sweet potato fries and that great cheese sauce which they serve with several of their entrees. Probably a bit prejudicial to give Mouthful a 5 star rating based on this one dessert, but any other rating would be less than honest. The menu looks quite intriguing and we look forward to trying some of the interesting Peruvian dishes. Try this place – its something a little different from the norm-not big on ambience, but clean, open and spacious, albeit quite casual – great for lunch and takeout.

Was working in Agoura Hills for 6 months. Tired every restaurant in the area. This was my #1 go to place for lunch. Very simple, but perfect, menu.

Unilocal darling & authentic Peruvian cuisine lead to a price hike… Here’s my review: LOCATION Nestled on TO Blvd, Mouthful expanded from its original operation, now rocking Spanish rock and a hip atmosphere. Always crowded. in a good way. PARKING Parking isn’t too bad in this area in general. SERVICE Friendly, genuine, knowledgeable people. If you eat in, you’re all set. Knocked down ½ star for to-go order mishaps: forget two items, called at 12:00 asking for food to be ready for pick-up at 12:45, was cold on arrival. Staff probably ignored timing order as requested for sake of ease. FOOD/BEV Lomo Saltado(angus skirt steak) sandwich was tender, juicy, and aioli-iscious, accompanied by a well-balanced housemade ciabatta roll. My celiac companion’s gluten-free ciabatta(+$ 2) was average for GF breads. Mac and cheese offered creamy goodness courtesy of aged cheddar, gouda, ancho chile béchamel, topped with a potato chip crust. As a vegetarian, my options were limited: Knocked down ½ star for Very Veggie sandwich, would not recommend. Hail to the Kale salad was a real treat, unusual & well-balanced flavors included hazelnut, tofu, & orange. Because of Unilocal attention, Mouthful increased prices, on par with more upscale restaurants a block away, making it tougher to justify a $ 12 sandwich eatery. Pro tip: If you to-go with your Hail to the Kale salad, try warming it up – 10x better.

Awesome fresh quality ingredients that combine interesting flavors to amazing tasting salads, sandwiches, and sides! My husband and I have tried the chop chop salad, chicken sandwich, & gourmet mac n cheese. Can’t wait to try other menu items!

When I bumped into this name on Unilocal’s Top 100 Places to Eat in the US for 2015, I knew I had to give it a try. Talk about a hidden gem! Mouthful Eatery is is a fresh and creative way to approach Peruvian style cuisine in the SoCal area where authentic Peruvian is hard to come across. The first time I came here(back in 2015) the place was closed for remodel. I was disappointed since I drove out from Chatsworth… so this time I made sure to call. The restaurant has been expanded and remodeled. The style is very casual and homey, the music playing in the background is upbeat and the old comics on the wall add a fun feel to the place. Upon arrival we were greeted by the woman at the register who was super nice and made a bunch of suggestions. We opted for the following items for a Saturday afternoon lunch: the lomo saltado sandwich, the albondigo sandwich, a side of fried yuca and a side of mac and cheese. The lomo saltado is angus skirt steak sandwich with sauteed red onion, tomato, and house aioli. The steak was cooked very well and was super tender. The aioli was flavorful without being overpowering. The juiciness of the steak was evident within the sandwich. The bread, we were told, is a house recipe(although it is baked in a local bakery and not in house). I thoroughly enjoyed the ciabatta roll that the sandwich was served on. It was soft but packed with a lot of flavor and able to withstand the textures and flavors of the sandwich. The albondigo sandwich is turkey meatballs with chipotle-tomato BBQ, melted provolone, kale pesto, and crispy onion rings. Talk about a yummy flavor combo. There was a nice amount of spiciness, but also a nice amount of sweetness to contrast. Though I’m not the biggest fan of BBQ sauce, the smokiness of the chipotle was a great combination with the succulent meatballs. The cheese and pesto added different layers of flavors which was far from a typical meatball sandwich. The crunch of the onions and the soft meatballs were perfect together. Both sandwiches were served with a pickled red cabbage which I wasn’t quite a fan of. The fried yuca was definitely fulfilling; a nice change from regular fries. They were not overly salted and were served with a Peruvian cheese sauce. The mac and cheese was creamy, but the macaroni seemed a bit overcooked. The mac and cheese had aged cheddar, gouda, ancho chile béchamel, portobello cracklings and potato chip crust. I also ordered a cucumber mint lemonade which was quite refreshing! All in all, very different and super innovative. Great service and great food. This seems like a family style restaurant because there is a lot of love in the food. We felt that all the items we ordered had their own individual tastes and flavors. We really enjoyed our sandwich and both were super filling. Will be back to try other items on the menu!

This place is really unique! The food is very fresh and they play Spanish rock all of the time I have gone in(which I absolutely love!). I was not expecting a place like this in Thousand Oaks and it makes me happy to see places like Mouthful Eatery popping out in this area. I’ve ordered their chicken sandwich which was outstanding! Their fresh juices are fantastic as well as their yucca fries!

This rating is just for my visit last night, and I still like Mouthful. We went in with a Conejo Deal for dinner and noticed that they offer dinner options. We went with the bone-in pork chop and the skirt steak entrees. They were no prices on the 2 boards that advertised the specials, and I should have asked before ordering because the pork chop was $ 15 and the skirt steak was $ 14. The pork chop came with a few green beans and sweet mashed potatoes, and the steak came in bite size pieces with vegetables and basmati rice. The were both covered with a sweet sauce. I should have stuck with their regular menu items, because I don’t think what we ordered was worth the price. Just my two cents.

This is really more of a 3.5-star review. The food was tasty, but I expected a little bit more for the price. I had the lomo saltado sandwich – at $ 13 for an a-la-carte sandwich, I kind of expected it to be more or less perfect. Again, the taste was there – bold, flavorful sauce on the beef, balanced nicely by the house aioli, and TONS of meat. The bread, though – I was so excited for ciabatta bread, but this one was a bit soft and, by about halfway through my saucy sandwich, soggy. It just didn’t hold up. The steak fries that came inside the sandwich also didn’t do much other than soak up the sauce – could have used a bit of seasoning on their own. My mom had the veggie sandwich and likewise found that her ciabatta didn’t hold up. When I go back, perhaps I’d ask for the bread a bit more toasted or to put the sauce on the side, so I can add it as I go along. We split one of the special sides, sweet potato fries with habanero ketchup, which we really enjoyed. I loved the big, steak-fry cut of the sweet potato. Could have stood a bit more crunch, and the habanero ketchup could have stood significantly more kick. More than anything else, I really enjoyed the unpretentious vibe created by the friendly service, fun art on the walls, and brightly-colored furniture.

Im not Peruvian or anything but I’ve had my share of Peruvian dishes. When i came across this café, i knew i had to give it a try. Mouthful Eatery is a decent size café located on Thousand Oaks blvd. If you don’t have the place on navigation you will pass it without knowing. –They have parking in front –Plenty of tables/seats –Couple tables outside –Free wifi –Great service –Clean/organized –Simple short menu(sandwiches, salads, sides) You walk up and order at the register, once you place your order you are given a number to take and place on ur table. My first order was. The South by Southwest salad(roasted chicken, romaine, charred corn, black beans, avocado, heirloom tomato, cheddar, pumpkin seeds plus cilantro topped with jalapeño ranch) with a side of Mac and Cheese(aged cheddar & gouda, ancho chile béchamel, portobello cracklings plus potato chip crust) ***The chicken was tasteless but the salad with the dressing was tasty. **** Mac and Cheese was creamy but it was missing salt. My second order was. La Sarita sandwich(roasted pork shoulder, sweet potato, pickled red onions, plus aji amarillo aioli) With a side of Shoe String Fries which came with a Peruvian cheese sauce. *** The pulled pork sandwich was good, i wish it came with a spicy sauce for dipping. *** The shoestring fries were delicious but i wasn’t a fan of the cheese dipping sauce. Thankfully they also put a side of ketchup. Stop in to give this place a try.

I came for lunch on 10÷9÷15 and OMG I finally found a place for lemonade! That’s the biggest reason why I came and tried it. I love lemonade and this is probably the best lemonade I have tried in so cal! The mint cucumber lemonade is damn heavenly delicious!!!(I would give this place 5 stars for the lemonade). Oh man and don’t get me started with their cookies! The soft, sweet, and yummy dulce de leche cookies are amazing. Staff was really great here. Really nice, helpful and very attentive. They came over refilled my glass of lemonade when they saw I was done with it(2.00 refill). I would definitely come back. Food: I ordered the lomo saltado sandwich(13.00). It was good but I expected way more for the price and boast this place has. I have tried authentic Peruvian lomo saltado and this sandwich doesn’t live up to it sorry. It was lacking flavor. Next I’ll try the pulled pork. Parking: they have street parking in front, very small parking lot out back. You may find parking near park right next to their parking structure but when I went it was full. PS they have picnic tables out back where their parking is. Overall I would recommend this place and I will definitely be coming back for lemonade and cookies!!!

Kick your self in the @$$ for not eating here sooner. At least, I am. Just down the street is a place that I visit often, and by chance: they recommended getting a sandwich here. Now, you’re probably thinking«Oh William, I can just get Subweigh, or Quizknows, or a sammich from the store»… and if you’re thinking that, just unyelp me now. The sandwiches are really done up well: attention to detail on getting the bread toasted right, they don’t just slap on the meat, or the accoutrements. There’s a wide selection of drinks available and. if you don’t go by service(was awesome), by variety(great), the ‘coolness’ of the shop itself(arctic level coolness). the taste is perfect. Worth the visit, by far!

I really want to like Mouthful but I’m not«sold» on it yet… As of today I’ve been here twice & have had things I liked and had things that, for me, were a bit of a miss. The staff is GREAT, as is the Lomo Saltado & the Hail to the Kale salad. The Lomo had tender, flavor-loaded chunks of skirt steak. The aoli, steak fries, sauteed red onion &roma tomato complimented the meat perfectly. The bread didn’t hold up well under the moisture of the ingredients so I didn’t eat much of it. The Hale to the Kale salad sounded like it had too many ingredients but they all worked perfectly together. I would have expected the roasted mushrooms to have a stronger presence but that is my only«complaint». All in all the salad was fantastic. The La Sarita was pretty good but the Lomo was far more tasty to me. I think my biggest takeaways from the 2 meals I had here is that much of the food doesn’t have the flavor I was expecting. The huancaína cheese sauce that came with the yucca didn’t have much heat & it was served in a cold, solid form… later I came to realize it’s supposed to be a cheese sauce, it wasn’t. The caper aoli that my coworker got on the side for his chicken sandwich tasted like lightly salted mayo with no caper flavor. I didn’t know it contained capers until I read the description before writing this. The portobello cracklings in the mac & cheese were clearly visable but had little taste, the sauce was more beschmel than cheese & was grainy. The fish sandwich was overwhelmed by the bread & when I ate the fish alone, it was a bit bland. The tropical slaw that was on the sandwich was very good though. Today’s special side was asparagus with hazelnuts & chili flakes. It had a nice bit of heat but wasn’t noteworthy. The pickled cabbage that comes with the sandwiches was amazing the first time I went(it was reminiscent of my mom’s German red cabbage) but today it seemed almost as if it hadn’t «aged» long enough.

I decided to try this place recently for the first time a couple weeks ago and have been back another time since. Both visits I had excellent service. I was asked several times by the cooks and the servers how everything was and if I enjoyed my food. That was definitely not what I was expecting considering this place is just a tiny hole in the wall. I also love the fact that all of their sauces are all homemade. The first visit I ordered the crispy pork sandwich and fried artichoke. I absolutely loved the crispy pork sandwich. However, I was not the biggest fan of the artichoke. The second time me and my boyfriend split 2 sandwiches, fried yucca and we each got a cucumber mint lemonade and the cookies. The sandwiches we split were the La Sarita and the Lomo Saltado. I would have to say out of all the sandwiches my favorite was the La Sarita. The fried yucca was so bomb! Tasted like Fried potatoes but better! I loved loved the cookies! So bomb! The cucumber lemonade was very unique and different but it hurt my stomach, so I don’t think I would get that again. Overall I would say this place deserved a solid 5 stars. I really enjoy all of the food and can not wait to come back!

I found out about this place through Unilocal’s Top 100 Places to Eat in the U. S for 2015. Check it out : . This place ranks at #83. I got the La Sarita(Pork) sandiwch– roasted pork, sweet potato, pickled red onion. I also got Mac & Cheese– it was delicious. I know the cheese was really good quality, because I’m lactose intolerant and my stomach wasn’t grumbling later, so that was a good sign. Fried Yucca– It was fried perfectly and soft in the inside. The cheese sauce was delicious. Cucumber lemonade– It was sweet and refreshing. Their menu is small and simple, so ordering is not overwhelming. I definitely want to come back to try everything on their menu. I’m glad they are expanding. They are taking over the Nutri-Shop that was once there *There’s street parking, or there’s parking in the rear.

Hold the door. This is one great place after all. Thought it was really good on my first visit about 6 months ago(and I got a salad), but I wanted to wait to write my review until I had a sandwich(and now for the review). Small list of 15 items or so: bowls, salads, and sandwiches all for $ 9 – 12. All with a Peruvian theme but it’s been California-ized. Sounds interesting? You gotta come here. Things I don’t like: commercial fridge with food items and glass door in the seating area /entry way; narrow dining area a little wider than a hall. Things I like: very fresh food, great service. Things I like to hear: they’re expanding into the space next door, and adding a larger menu, happy hour, and beer. Thumbs up peeps. It’s a 4.5 star on it’s way to 5 for me. PS. Do yourself a favor, get a small pack of freshly made Salted caramel Cookies(«alfajores»), stuffed peruvian shortbread cookies, and they are to-die-for($ 3 for 4). Thank me later.
