My husband and I are huge Halloween fans and spent over two hours in this store. Every employee that we ran into was more than helpful, answering questions and checking on us. The employees were very knowledgeable about the products. Tim the manager, even opened the product box just to make sure that the item was what we were expecting. We informed about the return policy and we appreciate it that. We had a great time. I am very suspicious of the negative reviews. In fact one of the reviews is from an upset employee, what does that have to do with people shopping here. I really don’t care how long you lunch break is. Unilocal is for shoppers not employees!

Just went here last week and was a little disappointed. Several«couples costumes»(like super heros and characters) only had the mens costume available in– store. The womans costume I needed was only available online, and A LOT more money than the mens. We ended up finding the one I needed across the street at Party City, where they also had the mens costume… both WAYYY cheaper than Spirit.(If one of us didn’t like what we blindly ordered online we would have to return the in store purchase along with the online one… and start all over.) Costume quality of the more detailed ones is far better at Spirit than the party supply stores but to wear only once, and we’re not talking«wedding dress», its not worth the extra bucks to me. Bottom line, shop around before you buy here and maybe call ahead of time if youre looking for something specific.

I applied for a job at this specific location because I am a native Newbury Parker. I applied for the advertised store manager position. While interviewed, they switched the location to the Janss Mall. I wasn’t thrilled. When I was hired officially, I got an email from the corporate office, not from the store manager, how professional. When I talked to the district manager, I was told that I didn’t get either store manager position, but that I would get an assistant manager position. I was told I would get 20 – 30 hours a week. When they told me assistant, I said I wouldn’t work at the Janss, but only NP for the significant pay difference. The store manager of NP, Tim, wanted to hire his management team. I was chosen by the district manager. Obviously Tim didn’t like that. He hired his friend and babysitter, Jeanne. She is not friendly at all, and doesn’t do her required tasks as a member of management. A former manager was going to be an associate, but changed their mind to be an assistant manager. However, Lesley within her first night of management, left sick. Neither she or Jeanne noticed a new hire was wearing open toed shoes. Both Jeanne(Simi Valley) and Lesley(Oxnard) are getting close to 40 hours a week. I was given 14.5, 20, then 15. Definitely not what I was promised at the time of hire. Funny thing is I have shopped this location for years, and also care greatly about my community and neighbors. I was way over qualified, but took the job for fun. Also because Ive seen the crappy employees from previous years, and I wanted to see a change. I would NOT recommend this location, or this district to anyone. Highschool at it’s finest, and they will suck you dry. They will take advantage of you. As a manager, I never got my state required 10 minute breaks, they also would have me take a lunch within 2 hours of arriving, because they dont know how to schedule appropriately. I’m glad I didn’t waste more of my time here than I already had. I’m also tempted to drive to Chino just to not give this district sales. They don’t care about customers, they only care about dollars. Dont allow your teenager to get a job here. It will turn them off to having a job and taking on responsibility. Also, products are China made, inspect your costume well. The electronic toys are cheaply made and break. Make sure you test it before Halloween and before the return policy date(10⁄16 this year). A guest had called and said that the $ 229 item was missing parts. I told them to come in and I would exchange it. Lesley got annoyed because we would be receiving a defective item back. WTF?! Customer service comes first. I will help my community in other ways, and sure as sh** never work for Spirit Halloween or Spencer’s Gifts. 4 weeks after hire and no pay check…

The employees are as rude as can be. I asked a guy working there what size he thought my 8 year old would be? He pointed at the other side of the store and said«boys are over there.» Then when I found the right costume and was at check out the guy asked if we had tried the costume on because at this point there’s no refunds or returns. Then glares at the person next to me who was returning something. What immaturity. I live right down the street and will never go back because of that lack of customer service. Don’t shop at this place!

I stopped in here today at the recommendation of a friend of mine. The store was clean, large and had a good selection of costumes and Halloween decorations. The selection they had seemed higher quality than at some other stores, though I couldn’t find a section for Steampunk outfits. They had a large area with kids costumes, and they also have fitting rooms. In the section with masks and decorations they have some areas staged like rooms or areas outdoors like you might do at your own house. Their creepy babies were cool. Mask selection seemed a little slim, but they did have unicorn masks for only $ 30 which seemed like a good deal and find to me. Also a VERY cute fox mask for you furries out there. If you’re in the neighborhood it’s worth a visit. PS staff greeted me right when I came in(as they did other guests) and were friendly and cheerful. They were not overbearing and didn’t follow me around asking if they could help me. It was nice.
