MISLEADING On a recent trip to Sequoia National Forest, we decided to try this place as our spot for lodging. It seemed to have a nice mix of being out of town and isolated, yet had the amenities of home(stove, lighting, water) to make it the right fit for our visit. Getting to the cabin was fun — it was an adventurous 4.7 mile trip up a one lane road off of the main route to Sequoia(at one point we really though we missed the place — turned around, only to turn back and eventually find the location). It was nice to be that far off the beaten path. Upon arriving, we were greeted by one of the the co-managers, who told us right off the bat that we had to watch our water use(something about the flume going out). O.K. Minor set back. We could«rough it», but were never really sure how much water we had to work with. Also, going into our cabin, we were greeted with the scent of natural gas. After mentioning this to the manager, she mentioned something about the last tenants also having trouble with the gas and recommended that we turn the gas off until we need to use the stove. I’m not sure how safe that’s supposed to be, but… After settling in and making some dinner, we were greeted with some unexpected company. Turns out there was a mouse and a lizard making themselves at home somewhere in our cabin. No biggie — this is the wild, right? The next morning, we went to take our showers(two of the cabins share a bathroom facility — the third cabin advertised supposedly has it’s own bathroom, but the manager stays there, so I’m not sure why it’s advertised to begin with). Barely a trickle of water came out of the shower head. Our cabin was still able to get water to come out of the kitchen sink — and at a nice flow rate. Basically we ended up taking pots of warm water out to the bathroom later to take«bucket baths» as the flow rate from the shower was not enough to thoroughly rinse off. Laughing off the events of the evening before, we had a great day at Sequoia. We came home, ready to barbecue steaks only to have the power go out on us. We didn’t get power until mid-morning the next day. The website states: «Here is your chance to enjoy nature with the comforts of home.» My home has functioning gas, electricity, enough water flow to wash the soap off and has never had mice(maybe an occasional lizard). Nice concept, unfortunately it’s not up to what I expected. If we wanted to «rough it», we’d have grabbed a cabin in Sequoia. TOTHECREDITOFOWNERSHIP, we brought our experience to the attention of the off site co-manager, who did refund us one of our two night’s stay. I’m sure, however, that we will not be staying at this place again.
