Do NOT judge this place by the bad reviews on Google. Under New Management. Complete renovation about 3 months ago. The photographs above are old. The interior of the rooms and lobby no longer look like that. It’s much more modern and lost that 1990’s feel and look. I traveled to Thurmont MD area from the south with the intent of going to Gettysburg PA the next day. Thurmont’s proximity to Gettysburg made it seem like a good choice to stay overnight. It’s located approx. 16 – 18 miles south of Gettysburg. The Super 8 looked like a good choice but received horrible ratings on Google. I was very interested in what we would find when we arrived and had even devised a plan B of driving to Gettysburg to try our luck. The Super 8 in Thurmont is directly next to 15. It’s situated on a hill overlooking the interchange. It was not a noisy location. We rolled up to find a nearly empty parking lot. Which was a good sign because we had no reservations. The exterior of the Hotel was well cared for. They man at the front desk was very nice and professional. We told him our concerns and the bad press the hotel had in cyber space. He informed us that the entire hotel had been completely redone 3 months ago. New beds, TV’s, linens, paint, carpet etc. All smoking rooms are located on the second floor. We were looking for a non-smoking. He offered to show us the room before we booked. The room, much to my amazement was absolutely immaculate and without any smell! We booked immediately and had a great stay. The beds were comfortable and the place was absolutely quiet and refreshing to stay overnight in. Microwave, coffee pot and small refrigerator in rooms. The continental breakfast in the morning was very basic. Muffins, bagels, waffles and drinks. No fruit. All good! The good: pretty much everything. The Bad: slow WiFi

Spent a little under an hour asleep when I discovered BEDBUGS!!! My children and I left very quickly. Because I booked with a third party, I was not given a refund until I called the booking agent. I missed the Daryl H. review on 11/13/2013. Hopefully someone will read this review and think twice.

We ended up staying at Super 8 Thurmont because every other hotel was booked for Memorial Day weekend. The front staff was very friendly and helpful. However, when we arrived, no cars were in the parking lot, so we assumed that we could check in early(2pm was when we arrived, check in was at 3pm) since no one was there. Even though the rooms were ready, the staff wouldn’t allow us to check in early. It made absolutely no sense. Anywho, we just hanged out in the parking lot until we could check in. Our room was nice and clean, and the bed was comfy. The next morning, I went to take a shower and the bottom of the tub looked dingy and dirty. I didn’t want my feet to touch the bottom of the tub, so I lied a towel down. I turned the water on hot to get ready for a shower, but the water never got hot, only luke warm/cold. I only lasted a few minutes in the shower before I had to hop out of the shower due to the water being so cold. In one of our friends room, the drain in the tub didn’t work properly. So as they were also forced to take a cold shower, the cold water was building up in the tub. Our other friends reserved a non-smoking room, however when they got in their room it was definitely a smokers room, and the rooms around it were smoker rooms too. They wanted to switch rooms, but apparently there were no more rooms for them to switch to, so they were forced to deal with the smell of smoke. Let’s just say, that next time we wont procrastinate with reserving hotel rooms when it comes to a holiday weekend.

Front desk staff is very friendly and the gentleman working the desk in the evening more so than the morning lady. Rooms were clean and beds were comfortable but needs a little more attention as far as maintenance. Need to clean the filters to the AC in the rooms, after running for awhile you can smell the mustiness coming from the AC. Bucket in the one hallway catching a leak from the ceiling. My only complaint would be that the breakfast lobby area is way to small. Went to have breakfast and there was no room to sit and no room to walk around the people that were sitting, we ended up just eating elsewhere for breakfast. Décor is definitely dated and the room we stayed in was on the smallish side. As another reviewer said though, if you need a clean place to stay, for the money you’re not going to beat the quality for the money.

Advise everyone to steer clear. Stayed there in October. They had bedbugs and refuse to admit it. My credit card co. did an investigation and the Super 8 refused to answer questions.

The décor is dated. The breakfast buffet is laughable(although the coffee is very good). The mattress should be replaced. All of these things are true but it’s $ 65 a night motel and it’s clean. The staff is friendly and the location is central to Thurmont and Catoctin Mountain Park(and only 15 miles from Gettysburg). It would be hard to beat this motel for the money.

Location is convenient as it’s right off of 15 and close to lots of eateries. Second floor reeked of cigarette smoke, but thankfully our room did not. Our room was clean and adequate although the pillows and towels were flat. Breakfast was good enough to hold us thru to lunch. I really like that they are trying to be green by providing recycled cups and encouraging to refrain from daily towel and sheet changes.
