This is a beautiful little spot on the coast. There’s a nearby museum that’s a few minutes’ walk down the hill that showcases the railroad history of the town. The views are great; I got some great pictures of the Golden Gate, but it’s also fun to use the stonework of the tower to add some texture and flavor to pictures. It’s also interesting to look up the local history of who built the tower and why. Really enjoyed walking around Tiburon and checking it out.

Lyford’s Stone Tower(a.k.a. the Tower, a.k.a. The Castle) is a very cool landmark with majestic views of the Bay. It is located just up the hill, maybe 50 yards, from the Elephant Rock Fishing Pier and Caprice restaurant. I was surprised to learn that it is managed by the Audubon Society and not the Tiburon Historical Society(with all due respect to Audubon). It’s an interesting piece of architecture that has a ton of character and is one of the landmarks on the Tiburon Peninsula. The views from the Tower or as my children call it «the Castle», include Tiburon, Belvedere, the Golden Gate Bridge, San Francisco, Angel Island, and the East Bay. The most dominating part of the view is definitely Angel Island. It’s pretty cool to take photos here. There may be some better shots further down the hill on the Shoreline Parkway, or Elephant Rock. A nice walk might be from downtown Tiburon, through the shoreline park up to the Castle and back. TOALLRUNNERS — The Castle is a great touch point if you start your run from Blackie’s Pasture. If you run down the normal trail along Tiburon Boulevard this will be exactly 6 miles round-trip. Alternatively, you can run down San Rafael Ave. in Belvedere and it will be exactly 7 miles.

A lot of folks have wedding photos taken here. The Tower is quaint and cozy. Today when I passed by there was a limo parked in the road. Please Note: There is absolutely no place to park here — — Lyford’s Tower is smack dab next to the small winding two lane road — — but there he was. .. PARKED! As I passed carefully I glanced over to see who was audacious enough to park a limo where it for sure was going to get hit. There were three people standing in the Tower. Two with their backs to Angel Island, the third facing them. OMG! He’s got a Bible in his hands! They are actually getting married right now. COOL! Now, if I just wanted to get married AGAIN, this would be a perfect little place to do it on a sunny afternoon. .. . P. S. Hope she doesn’t have to walk back to town in that long white dress. Could be a bummer!
