heck yeah i love waffle house. those waffles, far from crunchy, are so rich and soft. their eggs and grits are oily and buttery and salty. but what has always astounded me, every single time i’ve eaten there(maybe several hundred meals), is how the short order cooks keep everything straight. the servers call out some type of diner lingo, and the cooks keep it all straight. with dozens of orders. it’s amazing. this waffle house is no different. and did i mention there are ALWAYS people in a waffle hosue? no matter what time of day at whatever waffle house(there are usually 2 per highway exit). amazing!

Oh, the Waffle House. Not until I married a southerner did I get to learn about this establishment. They are everywhere in the south! They’re open late, they’re cheap, they’re basic, and they’re consistent. Each one I’ve been to looks pretty much the same, and it’s not for the health conscious. This is the south, you know. For what it’s worth though it serves it’s purpose. You can get eggs any style, with toast, grits, omelets(which are pretty good), and of course waffles! This time I got a banana waffle with two eggs. It was obviously not«real» banana, but the sweetness combined with the malty waffle mix was really tasty. The eggs were cooked perfectly and the food comes quick. Did I mention it’s cheap? I think for our two breakfasts we paid about $ 12 and I couldn’t even finish my waffle. They also have a variety of lunch-type items but I’ve only eaten breakfast foods. A good stop for a quick, no-frills, inexpensive fill up.
