Bikers love this place and it’s good, but not the best BBQ, as they make it to be on motorcycle magazines. This place was very old and in need of a remodeling. Places like this, mother nature ;-) knows when they need to burn down for it to happen. Hope they do rebuild, since it a good place after a good morning ride.

Unfortunately this landmark burned down but owners say they will rebuild. There were so many original, autographed photos of Quarter Horse legends that were lost. I hope the trainers will decorate the walls again with all the«greats». We will be standing by…

absolute worst service available, we arrived at 530 p and recd food at 710p. Spoke with manager and apology given, but would never go back. Most of order was forgotten, drinks served 45min after arrival, never checked on. Food was just ok, nothing special.

Had a combination plate of brisket and smoked pork tenderloin. Both were too dry! Yhe fried zucchini dollars were good because of horseradish sauce. Deep fried corn on the cob was served with the butter tab paper against the corn surface. Service was attentive and earned their tip. lf you are driving up from the south, continue driving north through Whitesboro to Dan’s. I won’t be coming back.

Great brisket! Love their chocolate meringue pie. Very rustic place. Service is decent but I go their for the food! Not a fancy place and their prices are high.

Appetizers? go for the Rib-ends, enough for 4. All the meats are great, however small portions. The sides are anywhere from good to great. The French Fried Corn on the Cob is Great, along with the Okra, Potato Salad was good. Service was Great, treated like one of the family. BYOB — Which is great, we pulled out our beer and were immediately brought over frozen mugs. Can’t wait to go back.

I LOVE this place. Its out in the«middle of nowhere» but I would drive the hour to get here! The atmosphere is perfect! This is genuine food, with genuine service. Everyone is so friendly and cares about your dining experience. The ribs, the brisket, the corn are all EXCELLENT. The chocolate pie taste just like my Great Great Aunt used to make, and it has the largest meringue you have ever seen. There is nothing generic about this place. Someone put time and effort into your meal.

I am really unsure how they continue to get on shows like Diners, D & D. Have eaten there twice and disappointed both times. Brisket was cut in pot roast size chunks and extremely dry. Chicken fried steak was flavorless. The best thing on the plate was the canned peach. Don’t drive there if you don’t live there!

Hubby & I decided to take a road trip to see a friends place close to Lake Ray Roberts. He surprised me by taking me to Clark’s. We’d always wanted to eat at Clark’s & it was the perfect time to do so. Clark’s is filled with rich history of cattlemen, ranchers & horse sales & wheelin’ & dealin’. The walls are filled with many pictures and murals of local customers & famous folks.
Clark’s is exactly what I was hoping for. I really liked the old original building, décor & ambience right off the bat. As we walked in the door, the wait staff was super friendly and, we lucked out and got Jan for our waitress. There’s no tellin’ how long Jan has worked at Clark’s. She was nice, knowledgeable and a little sassy. Although the mural on the back wall is beginning to peal off, you can tell that they just don’t want to lose it, so they’re just leavin’ it alone & letting it age. Hubby had BBQ on his mind & that is what Clark’s is so well known for. He ordered the smoked brisket and pork ribs with fried corn and fried okra & ½ a peach was on the plate, as well. The brisket was smoked exactly the way a guy we use to farm with, smoked his venison. Same texture, same smokey goodness… absolutely delicious! It’s smoked for 3 days. The pork ribs were equally delicious. They make some great BBQ Sauce & Jan brought it to our table warm & in a really cool old bottle. The okra was exactly the way we like it, as well… very lightly battered & dusted w/½ cornmeal & ½ flour. I ordered the fried pork chops with fried okra, baked beans and cole slaw. WOW! First, there are 3 large pork chops… I was hungry but, not that hungry. They were lightly breaded and cooked to perfection… exactly what I was wanting. I really enjoyed the okra, as well. We wound up getting a to-go container because we knew we weren’t leavin’ there without a piece of coconut & chocolate pie with mile high calf slobber. Every single bite of my chocolate pie was worth waiting for! Just delicious! At one time they served alcohol but, nowadays it’s BYOB. That was a great meal & one of the best dining experiences we’ve had in a long time. Jan made the experience even better. Clark’s will surely take ya back in time. I hope Clark’s stays exactly the same and is around for many years to come! We will be back.

This place screams ‘small town bbq joint’. Food was really enjoyable. Kids portions were enormous, fries were great, gravy and Texas toast were addictive. Loved the BBQ sauce and also the meat. Had apple pie ala mode and the scoop of ice cream was huge, pie was delicious. Jan was our server, she was a sweetheart, taking time to talk to us a bit about the town and the restaurant. It truly is a blast from the past, really can’t wait to visit again.

Can you believe they smoke the brisket here for three whole days? No kidding! And, they used to smoke it for five days, when they first opened. So tender and juicy, for meats smoked as long as they are. This place is famous in the area, for their food, and because of all the big cattle and horse dealing that occur inside their walls. The walls of Clarks Outpost bear paintings, photographs, and sketches of their many local customers: ranchers, cattlemen, and equestrian business operators. The bartender told me all about the long history of Clarks; customers’ passionate negotiations over cattle sales, horse studding, and the sort of wheeling-dealing that make Grayson County, Texas the hotspot it is for the horse and cattle industry, nationwide. Customer appreciation is really the most noticeable quality of this place. What restaurant covers nearly every wall with photographs and artwork bearing the likenesses of its customers? Clarks does. But, back to the food– delicious. You’ll get half a peach with your brisket meal, too. The calf fries were noticeably flavorful, breaded and fried just right. Easy to find, right in Tioga, Texas.

I have been going to Clark’s off and on for give or take 20 plus years, back when the original owner was alive. Many of the reviews on here lately are true. it is a bit overpriced, but that being said, BBQ is not a cheap meal. In case you haven’t wandered down the meat isle in your local grocery store lately, nothing is cheap. So if your watching your wallet, just go grab something off the McD’s dollar menu. The history of Clark’s is worth a trip in itself. Once voted a top 10BBQ joint in the United States(People Magazine). As a kid I remember helicopters flying in and landing across the street, probably some rich dudes out of Dallas or OK City. The Brisket I had today was a little overdone. Which was disappointing for me because in its prime Clark’s was known for amazing Brisket, some of the best in Texas. The ribs are usually pretty good. Side dishes need an overhaul. Service could as well. The complaints about it being a dirty building are probably coming from yuppies, it might not be the cleanest looking place but I don’t think health is a factor. It holds the original feeling, because not much has changed in 30 + years(except ownership), and for me that’s pretty neat. Needs some attention to detail in order to get back to it’s roots. Overhaul on side dishes, better attempt at service. Right now it stands as slightly better than average BBQ, but not greatness like the old man once had it running at.

Went to the Tioga car show/chili cook off. The show and chili cook off was a bust so we thought we would try Clark’s BBQ since it was right there. Wish we had drove back to Sherman to the Rib Crib. 1st off like one other post said«NO Sweet Tea» … What? No sweet tea in a BBQ joint in Texas? No real sugar for my tea, no Truvia, no NutraSweet only Option was Sweet & Low. We ordered turkey sandwiches, they where good, but nothing special for the price. We shared an order of fries that where awful, limp and not cooked enough. The place is filthy, I looked around at the chairs and they are covered with dust. Wondered if I needed to dust my back side off when I got up! Noticed the hostess standing around or sitting down most of the time doing nothing. Really wanted to hand her a rag and tell her to clean the chairs! The service was weird, 3 different people asked about getting a drink order including the hostess. An older woman with no front teeth came by and asked if we needed anything else. She saw that I had little of my sandwich left and asked if something was wrong with it. I said no it was fine I’ve just had enough. You’d think she would have caught the fact that I said«fine» not«Great» or even«Good». She didn’t say anything about all those soggy French fries we left behind. After we finished I took my napkin and wiped the back edge of my chair. Yep, you guessed it. It was filthy! For $ 23.21 we won’t ever go back there.

Service is always slow and mildly rude. Food is decent but nothing special. Their side selection is a joke for a BBQ joint. One positive thing is that their atmosphere is cool…

This place has, by far, the most polite servers I’ve ever met. Very, very charming. Add to that some very tasty food and I truly wish this place was closer to my home. We have been there several times and keep coming back for the food and the hospitality. Not being much of a red meat eater, I adore the turkey here. And the sides are fantastic. I’ve never done desert here, but the mounds of meringue showing up with pie at the tables next too us were truly inspiring!

We heard great stories about this being amazing BBQ but we were not impressed. First and foremost Our waiter didn’t want to be there and didn’t even listen to order, and obviously didn’t know anything about what types of meat or what was sold at the restaurant. We ordered Sliced brisket off the point(the fatty section). Someone other than the waiter brought our meat, it was a weird shredded beef… so it’s possible our waiter never told the guy slicing the meat in the back. We asked for sliced brisket again, and this time we were brought brisket off the flat. Still not what we asked for, but since they didn’t really come by to ask us we ate it anyway… The meat was dry, it had some«shine» but like it had been sprayed with water after. It was dry, and instead of having a nice pull it «fell apart» even with my little bit of experience, I know this means it was overcooked. It took quite a bit of sauce to make it not chewy … And I’ll admit the sauce was good, which really helped saved the brisket but Dallas is just down the road, which means Lockhart or some where else where there is great BBQ, with moist tender brisket that doesn’t need a sauce to eat it. We also got the sausage, it was tasty, good spice. A few pieces were a bit over cooked.

First visit — i had two meats — sliced beef and ribs with two veggies — collard greens amd cole slaw. Also coconut pie and iced tea — total bill — $ 34. A bit pricey — sliced brisket melted in my mouth — most tender I think I have ever eaten. Ribs were passable but not a lot of flavor — they were saved by a tasty bbq sauce. Cole slaw excellent — greens were a bit overcooked for my taste. Pie was excellent and served cold the way I like it! I will definitely return.

This BBQ spot would be a 2.5 or 3 if it were located in Austin, and a 3.5 in Dallas, but I am going to give it a full 4 stars for the fact that it was good out in the middle of the country where it was not necessarily in need of being as good. The meat was decent, the sides were ok… but the coconut cream pie was a thing of beauty. It came out looking like Elvis Presley’s side profile with a meringue bouffant. Go for it.

Anybody know that Tioga, TX is the home of Gene Autry? I didn’t either until I stopped at Clark’s Outpost Bar-B-Q on a weekend ride with a few friends. One had the Brisket, the other the Ribs and I lived on the edge with an order of Lamb Fries. Excellent reviews from all. Brisket tender, Ribs falling off the bone and the Lamb Fries(Baaaah!!!) were… uh, well… pretty darn good, although it’s not a plate that I’ll be adding into the regular rotation. Sides were all excellent too. The Fried Corn-on-the-Cob has been featured on the Food Network and got a thumbs up. Fried Okra met eveyones expectation and the BBQ Beans and Jalapeño Black-Eyed Peas did not disappoint. It does have that«hole-in-the-wall», comfortable feel that I’m always actively seeking out and the staff was prompt and friendly. Too bad its so far from my stomping grounds or I would make it there more often.
