I’ve been going to this store for years. The ladies are always nice and I never leave disappointed. I’m a loom knitter which means I prefer the chunky/super chunky yarn as it’s easier for my purposes. I get frustrated going to places like Michael’s because of the very small selection of chunky/super chunky yarn. If they don’t have it, they can get it. Love this store!!!

I’m of two minds on Sakonnet Purls. The first time I stopped by, the women were very cool with me, and I was uninspired by the yarn. Coming from the big city(Chicago), I felt like there was a lot of standard stuff, but very little of the more unusual fibers and many of the brands I was used to seeing. I didn’t see much local yarn, either. They did have a large selection of books and patterns and notions, which is handy. My second trip, the ladies were much nicer(although there was a big sale going on, so they may have been trying harder), and I came with patterns in hand(which certainly helps me feel more enticed). However, I STILL didn’t see much I liked. Lots of wooly stuff in various weights, but nothing thrilling, and frankly, nothing«young.» I didn’t see much to appeal to younger knitters. My mom was delighted by the choices, but I just felt eh. I did find one yarn I liked very much. One of the staff(with the best of intentions) tried to dissuade me from buying it for the project I’d picked, but it was the only thing I really loved, and I had enough gift certificate money to purchase a sweater’s worth of yarn. I decided to go for it, then rushed home to Ravelry to find that many people had used a similar weight yarn for the project. So it should work out fine. Overall, a large but not creative selection, and acceptable but not enthusiastic service.

Okay, so I admit I don’t knit, but a friend who lives in Jakarta, Indonesia, buys a years’(or more), worth of knitting projects at this store when she comes home to visit the fam. If they don’t have it, you won’t get it. Hah. Just kidding, they would be able to. Its not so hard to find; these two ladies run the store and know everything in the store. Complete with all the supplies you need, from two years old to well, death. Patterns, for everything under the sun and projects for tiny fingers. Fully stocked of yarns, from basic to beautiful cashmere and one cat that was born and raised in the house(not for sale!). I highly reccomend this shop especially for someone who knits like crazy and for that person who wants to begin. They have knitting groups, will answer those questions about a pattern, where you’re stuck and how to get out ot quickly, with less of a mess than you figured. So go, shop and make homemade gifts for everyone.
