Wow! This brewery is a hidden gem just waiting to be discovered. We stopped in taste some beer and were pleased to be served by an owner and head brewer. While the brewery had a very small tasting area, the fact that all beer is brewed in extremely small batches on the other side of the wall adds to the ambiance. For a small brewery, the styles of beer were quite varied, and the names all follow a military theme. We tasted eight different beers, ranging from a brown ale to a much stronger Scottish ale to an IPA, an America Porter, an amber and a fruit beer. We also tasted their summer wheat ale. There was something for everyone and every taste. The Barrage Brown Ale was smooth and easy to drink. My husband and son liked the stronger Angry Scot with its fruit undertones. The Split Shot summer seasonal beer reminded us of more mainstream craft beers. I can’t emphasize the quality enough. These beers exceeded quality and taste of much larger brewers. I can’t wait to visit again.

Two stars only because staff was nice. Really was not a fan of any of the beers. Went because I had a groupon… Staff was friendly. But beers had a horrible after taste… kind of like the lines we’re dirty. Yuck.

This one is a bit a of a drive but is of one of my favorite breweries in the area. I love going in and trying when there are new seasonal brews or just getting a pint of angry Scot ale. The owners are really nice and the atmosphere is always cool. I usually go home with a growler or two. ;) Craft beer at it’s finest.

Brass Cannon wins for smallest tasting room I’ve ever seen in a nanobrewery(and I’ve been to Baying Hound). Seriously– it has like 8 stools. It was not busy when we stopped on our way from DC to Virginia beach. We bought an Amazon Local deal that involved getting a growler and glassware and some beer. Beer was good. Tasting room was dog friendly. The was no outside seating. There were no food trucks, but I think they were selling bags of chips.

Consider these two Masshole beer snobs impressed. Muzzle Flash and the Smoothbore Stout are musts.

A good, small local brewery. There’s not much going on in Toano, Va. so it’s great to see a local spot to get a good beer. They just released a Scottish Ale«Angry Scot» that is very good. Now available in 22-ounce bottles. Good selection of others on tap. Brown ale was my favorite.

This place has been on my hit list for a while… today we had some extra time before meeting friends so we headed over to the tasting room. The space is not as polished as some others you may have been too, but the beer and the conversation is good… and after all isn’t that what it’s all about? Phil was out guide through the 4 beers that would make up our flights($ 4). Gotta say I was very surprised to find that their stout was my favorite. Normally I do not care for dark brews, but this one has a very clean finish. I suggest you give it a chance.
