I was born in Sweden and moved up here a few years ago after living in NJ, and, I love the area and its people. APCP is a bit more urban than other parts of the Poconos, but it is a great place to live, quiet and peaceful in our case. It is a fee-simple community and some first time homeowners might be struggling with the transition and responsibility of owning a house. Some rules are disliked by some for being to tough, while others can’t understand why they are there in the first place. I have not had any problems with either management nor the people living here, but maybe I’m just lucky. The community has some really cool amenities and provide solid services. But more importantly, the area is full of wonderful nature and fun activities.

I live in H section. Moved from Jersey City but I lived in Henryville(up Rt. 715) for about 10 years prior to living in Jersey City. So I consider myself a local/transplant. When I used to live in PA I heard about PCP and Penn Estates. Local people tended to have negative comments about both communities. After leaving the Poconos and living in Jersey City I can honestly say that I am relieved to be back in the mountains. I think that there is a misconception, perhaps a bit of a culture shock, for people that are born and raised in the rural Pocono mountains as they interact with transplants from the inner cities. For me, I absolutely LOVEPCP. My neighbors, like me, stay in NYC all week and we are home on weekends. My husband works locally in PA and he says it is pretty quiet during the week. On weekends we enjoy our firepit, BBQing in the yard and hanging out with family. My two dogs like to lay in the cool dirt while we relax on our porch soaking in the clean Pocono air. Our neighbors rebuild cars so they are also outside working on their car while their children run around and play. I love that the community has so many kids and teenagers. Of course there will be those knuckleheads that act a fool because they figure it’s rural and they can get away with being knuckleheads but for the most part things are quiet. My children love to venture down the road to the creek and we enjoy playing at the tennis courts at E-park. Thus far my experience has been great. Perhaps, living in the Greenville section of Jersey City has given me an appreciation for the mountains that I didn’t have when I lived here before. I look forward to this summer and getting more involved in the community activities.

I moved here in H section 7 years ago, and gradually it’s gotten worse and worse. This place is the WORST place to move.(Side note my account says i live in Freeland, that was a zip code mistake, I do live in PCP) It’s so bad I have to list the problems 1. Even though the speed limit is 25, people speed up and down the road with LOUD mufflers. Security wouldn’t do anything about it. 2. The dog owners let their dogs crap in the middle of the road and even on people’s properties and in front of their mailboxes. 3. A neighbor of mine is a hyena hoodrat. She is uncivil, nasty and insane. I’ve seen her son beat the crap out of their dog. The last time I tried to go to the park, she got in my face, threatened me and even though it was all caught on camera and in front of 20 people, Security is yet to follow up about the incident. 4. Three times I have called Security, no one showed up 5. My mailbox has been destroyed and had to be replaced THREE times. 6. My property was recently vandalized. The green 911 sign on my mailbox was nearly hacked off and a small tree of mine was cut down. A TREE!!! What kind of psycho does that? 7. Kids would throw rocks at my door and window 2 summers in a row 8. A guy tried to break into my house in DAYLIGHT when both myself and my mother were HOME. He had a closed umbrella like he was gonna bust the window. Again, Security never followed us up on if they ever caught him. 9. You can’t have a pool, doghouse, fence and other stuff without paying two fees, a permit, etc. RIDICULOUS!!! 10. H Pool is NEVER opened! They don’t even open it until JULY! And when it is opened, it’s hardly opened. They will have it closed on extremely hot days for no reason. And one day they closed it at 2PM for no reason when its supposed to be opened until 6PM 11. There’s constant littering 12. People are constantly dumping cats, resulting in seeing dead cats on my porch, and unneutered cats spraying my porch. 13. There is gangs, drug use and dangerous punks all over 14. There are perverts 30 years older than me who have cat called me from their cars 15. There are punks who will almost run you over. I was almost hit by a red SUV. He went around me but he skidded so dust got in my face. I didn’t even know him. 16. You can never use the H BasketBall court because these college kids are always hogging it. They don’t share it, get nasty with anyone who wants to use it(One man threatened me and my mother about it) they litter cigarette butts all over, litter trash and all you hear out of their mouths in a park full of little kids is «Fucking this, fucking that» 17. The park has no benches/picnic tables. The only place to sit is on rocks. There is no water fountain or bathrooms either. 18. Plus, the PCP holiday parties at E park suck. nothing for the adults to do, only the kids. The food is limited despite a entry reservation fee. They only give hot dogs, hamburgers and apple cider at the last halloween party of 2014. NO soda, desserts, NOTHING! There was also a very rude elderly woman there who hit my hand, and SCRATCHED it from her nails being so stupidly LONG! 19: The people I live on the street with are NOT nice neighbors. There was a domestic dispute across the street from us, two black men screaming at one woman. We were concerned neighbors, went over, and one of the guys began cussing us out, insulting us and saying RACIST shit. Like he was racist against white people. How«My Jesus isn’t your Jesus» and«I’m brown skinned» and all this fucked up shit. The neighbors are ASSHOLES, period! 20. Just a few weeks ago, some kids were screaming, swearing and being loud outside. I called Security after 20 minutes of it. It took them forever to come, and when they did, the car was only 30FEET from the kids. The kids were being LOUD, but you know what this Security officer did? He just turned the other way, and left. When I called back, outraged, it had been too late. The kids finally left. It’s fucking incredible kids can carry on, disturbing the peace like that for an HOUR and security STILL doesn’t catch them. Either that officer needs a hearing aid, or he just chose to ignore the situation. 21. They removed the Soft Serve Ice cream machine they had at the snack shack for three years. It was one of the few nice things the park had, but they got rid of it. For NO good reason 22. One time kids got so out of control, telling me to «Fuck off» for telling them to be quiet, I called the school and the school actually DID something about it, NOTPCP security! In conclusion its possible the crime is not near as active closer to E section, but either way H section is the WORST most high crime section in PCP. I plan to move as soon as I can. My mother and I would just go to E park but we do not own a car.

This place is horrible! It’s straight up GHETTO! Boarded up homes every couple homes. They dont take care of the beach area. Fishing is catch and release which mould be ok if there was any area to fish. There are no areas unless you rent a home with a dock. And there is barely anything in the lake. You would think Gated Community = Nice. Nope, it’s the hood, no wonder you can purchase a home here for 50k. If you like to loiter and race your beat up Honda and roam the streets then welcome home. People, if you want a true poccono experience go to Jim Thorpe or more off the beaten path because this place is a NYC drop off zone. The icing on the cake is that it’s not cheap to rent a place here. If you do go for some reason look if the other state parks around for something to do. They are a lot cleaner. The only half way decent area to fish in was riddled with drug baggies and other treasures. I feel bad for the few people here who have nice houses and upkeep them.
