Real home cooked food. Fried chicken had lots of meat and good flavor, fried okra great. Mac and cheese was a bit mushy for me. Meatloaf was tasty I mean it was all good. Owner is super nice laid back. Great little country restaurant, closed on Sunday’s.

Shirley’s Sole Food Café is a nice place to come eat and know your helping make a difference by eating there. Many people want to know they are helping the environment, the earth, humanity and here you have your chance. Shirley drives a school bus mornings and afternoons. Mid day she opens her place for lunch 11:30 — 2:00p. Every day EXCEPT Sunday when its closed. Ignore those evening hours you see on a picture here as thats no longer the case. You can get a meat plus two, or a meat plus three. Get a meat plus here at $ 9.49 plus tax which comes to $ 10.15. I liked the little peas that look like baby limas but are peas the best. You can also get iced tea or lemonade too, with refill. Thats included in the price. So is a piece of cornbread or plain biscuit. Shirley doesnt use ANY canned food. It will be either fresh or frozen, but never canned. If you see mashed potatos, those will be from real potatos mashed too! The peach cobbler is an add on and its very good! The building is old and hasn’t changed much I would expect. There is more seating in a side room to your right of where you make your selection you might not notice. With the profits and other donations Shirley has now a Mens shelter home, and also a women’s shelter too! When she closes up at 2:00p she feeds those waiting at the back door, and takes the rest to her shelters. There is a narrow drive on the left side of the building that goes in back with parking for about 8 – 9 cars. FYI… as a bonus the 2 gas stations right on the corner there, Exxon and Texaco often have the lowest priced gas for MILESAROUND! Gas up after you eat if thats still the case when you go. Go to Georgia gas and enter the zip code 30577. Currently they are at $ 1.95 and $ 1.96 while prices around and on the main highway might be $ 2.29. So fill er up and eat at Shirley’s! The gas savings will help you buy your lunch!

It was a nice quiet lunch, food is served lunch room style, the fried chicken was good but a little dry. However the vegetables made up for that. Perfectly seasoned and delicious. Very friendly staff and hometown charm. The price is a little high for its location and what you get. That was my only complaint.

O’tay. Good people. Delicious food! But atmosphere is similar to a Greyhound Bus Station. They appear to do a great business in take out.

My name is Chase, and I’m a foodie. I recently downloaded the Food Network on the Go app, which I’ll acknowledge isn’t helping me achieve my fitness goals. Alas, before I digress, I drove to Georgia for my son’s NFC championship game(which they won! Go Niners!) and on the way back home I used my trusty Food Network app and it directed me to Shirley’s Sole Food Café(Miss Shirley spelled Sole this way intentionally — I’ll explain why later). Let me just say, I’ve used this app 4 times and it has not disappointed me. Miss Shirley’s food is southern, fresh, and it nourishes your body and soul. You actually feel better when you leave. What you will also discover when you visit Miss Shirley’s café is that she uses the proceeds from her cooking to help the homeless get on their feet, hence«sole» food. The décor is older, but the food is fresh. The service is cafeteria style. We had the fried chicken, cabbage, butter peas(yes — butter peas!), mashed potatoes, a sweet potato, a biscuit, cornbread(which needed honey and butter, to me) sweet tea, and a half tea /half lemonade. Everything was delicious. I would’ve posted a picture of the peach cobbler but I had eaten most of it before I remembered to take a picture. This is authentic southern cooking at its best. Miss Shirley’s is only open a few hours a day, so be sure to check the pic of the menu I posted with the hours. Miss Shirley is known as a cook and a saint in Toccoa, GA. She’s known as an angel to my belly. Miss Shirley’s Café is about 15 miles off I-85, so if you have time, it’s well worth the stop.

The boyfriend and I went on a vacation to visit some of his family in Georgia when we were introduced to Shirley’s Soul Food Café. I was aching for some genuine soul food and the family suggested we go here. We walked in the door and were greeted by everyone that worked at the restaurant. It was a very friendly Southern feel. All the food is in a deli case at the front of the restaurant and you choose what you want on your plate. I chose the fried chicken(amazing), potatoes, green beans and of course, sweet tea. All of it was awesome, but the fried chicken I could rave about forever. It was so juicy and fried perfectly in a homemade batter. I finished the meal with peach cobbler but had to take it to go because I was stuffed. They give you plenty of food for the price. This restaurant was featured on Food Network’s «Diner’s, Drive Ins, and Dives. If you, for any reason find yourself in Toccoa, Georgia make a stop at Shirley’s.
