The word BOFFO is old-time slang for a success. By musician’s standards it usually means a band or a song is OFFTHECHARTS good. And the band Boffo is just that! Whilst visiting Toledo in early May friends of mine rallied at the Bier Stube specifically to see and hear Boffo. Band members Doug Empire, Dave Fogle, Bernie Greenberg and Tom Lawson did not disappoint their fan base and made me an instant fan. These guys epitomize the hype of their cover music and vocals as «TIGHT». I don’t ever recall being in a local pub, bar or even club where a band covered Steely Dan, Billy Joel, Eagles, and other 70s and 80s style ballad and R&R songs like Boffo does. Drummer Fogle IS the voice of Steely Dan. And some of the low-tones of keyboardist Empire seem at first take unlike the original… then you get it. He’s putting his own take on the vocals and the presentation is terrific with a capital TEE! What’s best? The fan base is +35 years of age ranging up to the early 60s and they’re in the house to drink responsibly and dance to the music… sing to the music… and just have a great time with friends. Boffo doesn’t blow you out of the venue — their music is just above sing-along levels and everyone in attendance knows the beats, the words and the moves. And to use a modern acronym… MILF heaven. If you’re looking to spend 2 — 3 hours having a great time — sign up to be where Boffo’s hanging out. You’ll be re-energized by their sets and love every minute of the music.
