Taylor Photo has been able to process just about everything I’ve thrown at them: 35 mm print or slide film(cross-processed upon request), 120, even 127(Brownie film) and 110 cartridge film, all in either black and white or color. I’ve had no issue with the quality of their work or their pricing. Color film is usually processed by the next day, but black and white film is processed in batches, maybe once or twice a week, due to lower volume. Taylor also specializes in movie transfers, although I haven’t used their transfer services yet. Mr. Taylor is a treasure trove of photographic trivia! If you’re not careful, you could end up shooting the breeze for a half hour about the uses of 110 film in x-ray machines, the toxicity of the Kodachrome process, or photo enlarging. It makes for a very personable transaction, rather than just dropping off or picking up.

I have found only one place in Toledo that will develop my 120 mm film, and Taylor Photo is it. For that reason alone, this place earns three stars. The other star derives from the fact that the people here are so darned nice and helpful. While discussing which speed film to use in my new Holga, Mr. Taylor personally took apart my camera to look at the shutter speed, informed me of numerous photographic informational nuggets, helped me load my first roll, made witty banter, ordered more 400 speed 120 mm, and gave me five free rolls of old expired 220 film, «in case I could use it.» Talk about service! Film development at Taylor Photo is timely and moderately priced, and the developer clearly knows what she’s doing. She knows what cross-processing is and isn’t afraid to explain it to the uninitiated. Namely, me. The only area where Taylor Photo falls short for me is in their accessories offerings. While they do sell photo albums, loupes, and a couple of other photographic accessories, they don’t have camera bags, changing bags, tripods, or many other accessories. While this certainly isn’t a deal breaker by any means, it does mean that Taylor Photo cannot serve as a one-stop shop for all your photographic needs. Nonetheless, I told Mr. Taylor he was going to be my new best friend.
