Just took the ct pistol permit course with SGT. Foster over the weekend and overall it was a great experience. Instructor is a great guy very straight forward and the class was as fun as it was informative. The setting is very male and female friendly. Great instructor for a great price; if you’re thinking about or are on the fence just go for it, it is money well spent

I attended the NRA class last fall with Sgt Foster at Cabelas. Pros: $ 89 groupon deal was well worth it Tons of information and materials presented True representation of gun ownership, responsibilities and consequences Exposure to numerous types of handguns and revolvers(unloaded of course) He seems genuinely concerned that too many people just want a gun without knowing the harm they can do Cons: Class size was way too large at over 30 people 8 hours turned into 10 hours because of unrelated banter with a few«know-it-alls» Those 10 hours did not include range time because it was raining. Further attempts at contacting him for follow up time was fruitless as he spends half his time in Texas. This is one of the most important components of proper gun handling and I was gypped out of it. I still received a certificate to apply for my permit but I had to go to another range and pay more money to get some instruction and range time to feel comfortable enough to go through with the rest of the process.

Recently attended a 1-day, eight-hour NRA Basic Pistol Shooting Course — CT Pistol Permit Class. My particular class was held at a conference room at Cabela’s of East Hartford. It was well worth the Groupon deal. Typically a $ 200 value, I paid $ 89. Of which I received both classroom and supervised live-fire training to learn the basics of operating a revolver and semiautomatic pistol. As a newcomer to handling and operating any firearm, I found the class to be not only super informative but fairly entertaining. Topics ranged from ammunition and cleaning to range etiquette and firing stance. The class included all equipment, as well as a «NRA Guide to the Basics of Pistol Shooting» handbook, «NRA Gun Safety Rules» brochure, «Winchester/NRA Marksmanship Qualification» booklet, final exam, pencils to chew on during the final exam, and a certificate of completion. Sergeant Matt Foster, owner and instructor of Sgt. Foster’s LLC is a real stand up guy. He made what could have been a really long day, fly by. Knowledgeable and down-to-earth, he has all the credentials to make me feel comfortable at owning and operating any firearm from pistol to rifle. As a 30-year career marine, Matt Foster is a US Marine Corps Pistol and Rifle Instructor, as well as a Certified NRA Instructor. During class Sgt. Foster’s passion and enthusiasm for firearms, shooting and safety is very evident. And like they say, a good teacher makes for a good student. Classes are held at multiple locations, and reservations are required. Classes take place in Tolland, East Hartford, and Glastonbury on Mondays from 9am — 5pm., Tuesdays from 5pm-1am, and Saturdays from 9am — 5 pm. Whether you are a beginner, expert, aspiring competitive shooter, or just curious — I would highly recommend taking this course.
