A-1 Advanced Moving & Storage

I recently used A-​1 Moving for a move from a not fully furnished 3 bedroom apartment to a house. When I moved in it took the movers (wish I could remember that company’s name so I could’ve used them again instead of A-​1) 2 hours to complete. Those guys were fit and fast. They were in & out & did a great job. I was totally expecting the same with A-​1. As it turns out this was not the case. Now, I will add the fact that they were very accommodating when I had to change my move date 3 times. Anyway, the day of the move they showed up within the time frame I had been given. So here is my experience… This is what I was promised. The price I was quoted was $ 85/​hr with a 2 hour minimum plus a $ 45 trip charge. I was told that they would also take any furniture apart & put back together. Seeing that I did not have a fully furnished 3 bedroom & no appliances I expected 3 hours at the most. I literally moved 5 minutes away, like 2 miles at the most.
This is what I got. They did arrive within the time frame I was given. Who arrived was 2 middle aged men, 1 of which was over 300 lbs. They had me sign the paperwork and they began. Before they began the guy proceeded to tell me to tip them at the end. The first trip up & down the stairs the overweight man was already out of breath & moving slow as hell. I thought to myself OMG, I’m in trouble. It only got worse. They had a dolly break & that slowed them even more. As time was ticking away my bill was just going up. It took them 3 hours to just load the truck. All my stuff didn’t even fill the small truck. I had the 2 slowest, out of shape movers I have ever used. Finally I couldn’t take it anymore. I called the company to complain that they were sooo slow!!! I told her everything & she went on to tell me that yeah the one guy has put on a lot of weight since he started working for the pizza place at night. I was not happy & told her at the rate those guys were moving I was estimating at least 6 hours. She apologized & said for me to call her & let her know when they were finally finished.
They finally made it to the house. They were going so slow that my husband had them just leave the boxes at the bottom of the stairs & he carried them up himself. All the while my husband was repeatedly reminded to tip them. The only things that actually had to go upstairs was a bunk bed (that they had taken apart & needed to be put back together), 1 book shelf & some boxes. Everything else went downstairs or in the garage. Then the 1 guy gave the screws & nuts& bolts to my husband & told him to put the bunk bed back together while they finished unloading. At this point my husband told him «no, that’s what I’m paying you for!». After was all said & done it took them a total of 6 hours & that was with my husband’s help. Then the man had the audacity to make a comment to my husband when he did not tip them. Well here’s a tip… move faster & be efficient.
Once again I called & complained more. My big complaint was that the 1 guy nearly passed out he was so out of shape & soooooo slow which costed me money. If you are not physically fit to do a job that requires you to be fit then you should choose another job. I would never recommend this company. They are slow & your bill will rack up. For all my complaints we got the company to refund us for 1 hours but I should have been refunded for 3.
Warning!!! When looking for a moving company look for 1 that has a reputation for being careful & efficient, especially when you have to pay by the hour. Sorry for the long review. Just wanted people to BEWARE of this company.
