Picked figs this year for jam, and oh my goodness were they good. The trees were absolutely loaded down with fruit, even the small trees. They send out an email letting you know when fruits are ready to be picked and the picking hours. I arrived around 9:30am, and there were lots of people picking already. For figs, definitely go earlier in the day vs. later. There were a few varieties; I think I recognized Celeste, LSU purple, and maybe a few black mission trees? Either way, the price was fair(downright cheap compared to the farmers market) and it’s a fun incentive to get up on the weekend and enjoy the morning sun.

What a great place. We went out to pick figs. I have no idea what I am going to do with the bag of figs, but it was great to walk around with the family. I had read that the owner was kind of a jerk in other reviews. Well the other reviews must have met someone completely different. Great people that were joking with the kids and the adults. I wish we would have caught the berries, but we will be back. Still don’t know what to do with these figs. Time to google. If you get there early, wear boots because the morning dew and all the rain we have had makes it a wet, but still awesome walk!

I finally made it out to pick some fruit at an orchard! Came here because I am always getting email updates of what is season and when to come out. So those are good reminders. The blackberries are ripening and I really wanted to take my daughter. We both actually just realized she really loves blackberries when she finished a whole container the day before. The container was actually quite tiny and cost as much as a pound costs here at the orchard. Bathrooms are cute and clean and stocked. We got a fun little hay ride out to where the blackberries were. We ended up coming home with 3 ½ lbs of blackberries. My daughter got over the bugs after about 30 minutes, lol but she ended up catching up to my bucket quick when I told her that she HAD to use her bucket to move the plants from side to side because that’s where all the ripe ones nodoby wants to pick because they don’t want to get their hands scratched up. Sure enough, that’s where all the super giant and ripe ones are hiding! Its an orchard, so yes, there’s bugs, yes you are in the elements, yes it is a long walk back with no shade, no dont eat the fruit before buying(mainly because of all the little bugs that need to be washed out). Take a hat and sunglasses for shade, sunblock and mosquito spray yourself in the parking lot, take WATER and you should be good. Go home and wash, wash, wash your fruit right away, can not stress that enough! Lol We ended up restocking our little store baught blackberry container with the most blackest(sweeter) and giant blackberries for fresh eating from the fridge and the rest have been placed on cookie sheets and put in the freezer.

I went for blackberry picking. I dont really like Blackberries, but I did enjoy the walk. It is best to call them to see whats available for picking. They also sell plants and honey and some preserves. The family is friendly and provides small trips to the back of the farm if its too far for you to walk.

It only took me about 30 mintues to get here from the galleria area, in good traffic. Not too far to travel to get fresh picked fruit! A lovely orchird run by very friendly people. I picked Figs today and I was glad I got there early because we got the best pick of the day for sure. And they were only $ 3 a pound! The family also runs a mini farmers market on fridays and saturdays where he has extra fresh produce to purchace, it looked great and I will definently stop by to get some soon. You can’t beat the taste of fresh local produce.

What is one to do when faced with the task of entertaining a 14 yr old girl and 8 yr old boy who want to spend the day with Auntie? Why take them blackberry picking of course! Matt Family Orchard is 30 min from downtown, and grows a variety of fruits and berries. They charge by lbs picked, not time spent or entrance. The kids had a ball seeing who could pick the most. We will defiantly come back when the persimmons ripen. Super clean bathrooms too!
