Was excited to read the reviews and even more excited to give this place a try for take out. The cuban sandwiches were very good, they had run out of regular size bread so they gave us smaller rolls and charged us half price… they were amazing. The french fries were so greasy that we tried to crisp them up in the oven but it didn’t work. We had to throw them away. The empanadas tasted like garlic beef, very bland. I will go back for the sandwiches only.

Our first visit, on a Groupon. We will definitely return and are looking foward to using the catering services. The food is dekicious, obviously made from scratch, creative choices of fillings and sauces. What a great addition to the local restaurant choices! Please don’t review this business if you received a freebie for writing this review, or if you’re connected in any way to the owner or employees.

GREATCUBANSANDWICHES! First time sandwich was perfect. One of the best I had and we have some good spots I where I come from in Hudson county. I only gave 4 instead of 5 is because I couldn’t leave 4.5, the 2nd sandwich I got was great but to be perfect it should have been grilled for at least three more minutes. And other that I haven’t tried anything else on the menu I can only give it up for Starr but that to the sandwich was the bomb and one of the greatest Cuban sandwiches ima head so I highly recommend this place. I’ll try other menu items shortly because I live in the area and if they are as good as the sandwich then they will get 5 stars for sure.

I have had 2 visits here for empanadas and cuban coffee, very well seasoned empanadas, I was impressed with the ingredients used like fresh garlic, not from a jar, and fresh crust that was flakey and light. I am very impressed and I hope to try the rest of the menu soon!

Okay so I was hoping this place had a few more authentic Cuban dishes but it didnt. It is a very small, clean and modern place that is based on meat and dessert and empanadas. Their side dishes are rice and black beans, yucca, and plantain. Remind you that everything is fried except for the rice and black beans. I had the Cuban chicken empanadas with rice and black beans and yuca fries. I thought it was OK and tasty, but not really anything to write home about. I did like that the empanadas were light and not greasy and the chimichurri sauce was good also. I believe the yuca fries should be cut a little smaller but the garlic mojo sauce was good but greasy. There was only a few cold drink selections including water and coke and sprite. Oh if you’re looking for something without meat they do have a black bean and cheese empanadas and also the black beans and rice is not made with any meat or animal by-products either. All in all, I’m not quite sure if I will return unless I use another local flavor. Com deal and try the dessert empanadas.. I got $ 20 worth of food for only $ 5.

Wow what a experience the food was 5 star plus. Everything made fresh and hot. Had the beef empanada and the cheddar empanada. Beef seasoned perfectly. For desert we had the gava and cream cheese empanada sweet hot and to die for. This is now one of my must stop restaurants. Try it you will LOVE it

This place is not a restaurant. It’s a takeout place with a skinny countertop and high stools that are not child friendly. The food was just ok and definitely over priced. The Cuban sandwich was the biggest ripoff of all. It was expensive(which I could get over if it was delicious) and barely had any meat inside not to mention it really didn’t taste like a classic Cuban. Some of the food tasted like it was slightly aged or had been frozen. Went once and never again.

Never had heard of this place, found a Groupon for this place and decided to try it. How did I not know this place existed? The empanadas are really good. They have a lot of varieties. Combos(2 empanadas of your choice with rice and beans) is the way to go! Don’t forget to try their dessert empanadas! If you are ordering by phone do ask them for the full list, not everything is listed on their page. They do have their empanadas sitting out on the display rack. I just wonder if the business is slow and/or its not a popular filling how long those empanadas have been sitting out for.

I bookmarked this place a little while ago and wanted to see what the hub bub was all about. Generally I’m looking for a meal but this time, oddly I wanted just a little snack to continue my day. Basically, I wanted a distraction, and this was it, empanadas! The inside is small but cute, and when I mean cute, it’s simple and clean. Nice little frames everywhere cute little chalkboards showing the prices. In fact the more I think about it, it resembled more of a quaint coffee shop. Overall very clean and cute, a nice place for a quick chat or to catch up with someone over coffee and empanadas. The service was great, the cashier was nice and so was the head chef. He even came out to ask me about my experience and what I thought about that place. Now the food, I had gotten a chicken empanada as well as a buffalo chicken empanada. Ahh where to start, these emanadas were everything an empanada is supposed to be. Large, filled with good insides, and most of all super crispy. The shells of the empanada had a nice crispiness to it, and was uuhh soo good. I got a café con leche on the side, or a cuban coffee, and it paired well with my food. Overall the staff was great, the store is clean, and most importantly the food was delicious. This place is no dine in restaurant but a good place to get a quick bite and a coffee. Would I come back again? For sure!

First time trying this place and it was good. We had the empanda platter which includes two empandas plus small serving of white rice and beans. The beans were excellent. They had garlic and tasted great. As someone who is Latin and love beans. This is tops. They should sell the beans as a separate side. Anyhow I had the beef and chicken empandas. Both were very good. I cannot wait to try the spicy buffalo chicken. Their deserts are good too. Definitely recommended especially since there are not really any real choices with Spanish foods around there. One negative is that they are not open late on Sat & Sun. I assume they can get dinner crowd but they close at 5pm on Sat and I think 3pm on Sunday.

Gotta give up the 5 stars here, I am a phein for empanadas, when you add buffalo chicken to that mix? SHEESH! I’m in. Toms River hasn’t really had much culture. Being Cuban myself it’s nice to finally have a takeout option. The empanadas are fried PERFECTLY! along with the flavors of the meat and different options, this place is THEBOMB!!! wish I can make my own empanada and have it named there ;) haha

This place is seriously heaven sent. I’m so happy to have a good, fresh, creative food place to get really good food at a low cost! I love the bean and cheese empanadas, and the buffalo chicken is on point! I love the rice and beans! I really want to try the dessert ones, but I’m always so full after my meal! Nice people, they take credit cards, and they always have everything in stock. I would choose this place over a chain place any day!

Very nice people! Most importantly the food is great, had the beef and chicken empanadas and the Cuban sandwich. Excellent! Cute little place too. Only problem is I’m not sure if you can actually talk to them on the phone? Always too answer machine for some reason.

I waver between 3 and 4 stars, but I give it 4 because I’m happy we have a local place with good food instead of some chain. Also, the people are very friendly. However, they are not the best empanadas I ever had — and I’ll tell you why. They cook them in the morning and let them sit out all day under heat lamps. Not a fan of that. They should be made fresh when you order them. I fear that if any restaurant similar to this one opens and takes my advice, it would kill this business. The empanada filling is always delicious and if you happen to get them fresh they’re awesome. I would recommend coming earlier in the day so you don’t get the ones sitting out.

I grew up in Texas where empanadas are a religion. The ones here aren’t that good. Not bad mind you, but if you’ve never had a great empanada, then you’d probably find this place ok. If you have had a great savory or sweet empanada before, then this is more like the McDonalds of empanadas.

I’ve been here a couple times since they opened and I have been happy each time. I love empanadas and I’m vegetarian. Sometimes it’s hard to find wonderful empanadas without the meat. Caneda’s has awesome veggie options and the meat options are pretty creative too. The staff is incredibly friendly and so open to suggestions. I think they’re doing modern small business right. It’s an environment that makes you want to come back and food that totally seals the deal. The food is fairly inexpensive, which is something near and dear to my heart. You can get a cheap two empanada combo with rice and beans, which is a truly satisfying meal. Oh, back to the creative part, they had Nutella dessert empanadas last time I stopped by that were AMAZING. Nutella with fruit. So great. Check it out! Totally worth it.

Simple eat-in or takeout. Empanada specialty place. Amazing black beans, rice and coffee/espressos. Swiss chard, beets and goat cheese? Great combination! Nice to have vegetarian empanada options. Also a crispy fried dessert– yum!

It was our first time here but certainly not our last! We spotted this place driving down Fischer Blvd. We both love empanadas so we decided to give it a try. I had a chorizo & goat cheese empanada and my girl had the beef empanada with some Cuban Coffee. It was so tasty that I ordered a second one. This was so good that I felt compelled to take the time to add them to Unilocal so I could give them a review and share it with everyone who follows Unilocal
