My wife and I enjoy the ice-cream place every time we visit my parents. Best ice-cream in the world!

Be warned, this place is not gluten friendly and I doubt allergen friendly. I went into Denae’s full of expectation. They have home made ice cream and that usually means only milk/cream, eggs, sugar and flavoring. Real ingredients are important since I can not eat gluten(found in many supermarket brands). I had a disappointing experience and a very negative attitude. The younger woman I first spoke to wasn’t sure but she didn’t know what gluten was, so I asked for an ingredients list. She went and asked a dark-haired woman for an ingredients list. That woman came over to me and I asked if there was an ingredients list available. She said ingredients were cream, eggs and sugar. «That’s great,» I replied,“then we can eat it!“ I asked again for an ingredients list thinking about which flavors I could eat. «I assume you’re trying to stay away from something?» she asked. I told her we were gluten free. She became very abrupt, stating that none of it was gluten free. Now I was confused. «But, milk eggs and sugar are gluten free.» I stated. As the conversation continued, she said she didn’t know milk eggs and sugar were gluten free, that she didn’t know what else was in the ice cream, that there was no list and I’d have to wait for her to make phone calls. Her mouth smiled, her words were ok however her tone of voice became clearly indicated she did not want us there. Despite that, I really wanted ice cream so I decided to wait. In an effort to make it faster for her, I caught her attention to tell her all I needed to know was what was in the vanilla. Before I even spoke, she said in a snide tone, «Ma’am I’ve got 4 phone calls in about this» I was going to wait, but enough was enough. I don’t need ice cream with attitude. (My husband says this is too nice, and she really copped an attitude.)

We discovered this ice cream shop when visiting my in-laws. The ice cream is delicious. The chocolates are delicious. And the candy coated pretzels are fun and make an unusual gift when you’re visiting. The story reminds us of an old-fashioned ice cream parlor. There is also outdoor seating. We are from Ohio but whenever we come up this way we always make a point to stop at Denae’s. They have recently moved to their new location. We went to the old location and were very upset and we couldn’t find them. Much to our relief Unilocal had the new address.

Just opened! 40 homemade flavors. Friendly staff. Good shakes and small is 2 scoops. Nice sized cones too. It’s in the Stop and Shop plaza on its own and has nice tables outside.
