This is one of my all time favorite breakfast places. My husband and I have been coming here for years. Everything we have had we have liked. Our favorite is the French toast. I like mine a little on the crunchy side and not soggy, they deliver. They have some kind of special crunchy bits, not sure what it is, but it is fantastic. Today we had a vanilla cinnamon roll which came out almost as an appetizer, which worked for us as our daughter was hungry! We shared and loved it. Eggs and breakfast potatoes, yes order the potatoes instead of hashbrowns. It was all very good. Service is friendly.

Let me say this is my first ever review of a restaurant. Ate a Chickadee’s for breakfast on 8÷1÷2015. As a life long resident of Topeka we had eaten at this longtime restaurant a number of times when our children were growing up but it had been years since we had returned to dine. My now grown son and his family happened to have been in that area of town a couple of days before and suggested we meet there for breakfast. The café was mostly filled with older patrons, which I am also, which usually is a good sign for good portions and good food. We had good expectations that were not met. My son had their sirloin steak breakfast and my wife and I had their Western Omelet. Our grandsons had hash browns and sausage links. The omelet arrived ok but was somewhat cool and the ham pieces and veggies in the center seemed to have been put in the center un-sautéed then folded up in the grilled egg. Edible but not satisfying. The fried potatoes were cool, greasy and about 10 in number. The English muffin was nicely prepared and our coffee was good. The kind of meal you eat but wish you had done something different. There were only two sausage links in a side order and they were overdone. The hash browns were well prepared and enjoyed. The steak breakfast was a disaster however. It was ordered medium and arrived over-cooked, which can happen of course. It was promptly received back for another try with the cook. After a significant period time another steak arrived basically raw which like«you thought my steak was over cooked I’ll give you less cooked!» The waitress was attentive to stay to see if it was ok and returned the steak again for some additional cooking time. After about 2 minutes she returned with the now apparently microwaved meat. Not wanting any further hassle he accepted the steak since we had basically finished eating our food. I was given a 3 inch piece of steak to try. It was difficult to slice, tasted like old meat, fibrous, and mostly still raw. I enjoy a medium prepared steak myself. It honestly made me feel somewhat nauseous after eating it and I didn’t want any more of it. By that time, my son had eaten what he could of the steak, and little else of the meal except the toast which he ate waiting for the steak. The waitress told me she reduced the price of his breakfast to help with our difficulties unsolicited by us. Later that day my son told me he got sick later in the morning. I will not take another chance eating at this restaurant.

This is home town cooking at its finest. I love giving my hard earned money to their hard working employees.

This is a nice little mom-and-pop in Topeka. It isn’t the most polished place around but the service is always friendly and their burgers are excellent! Their patty melt is my go-to and the rueben is a second favorite. They make their own potato chips, which is fun, and their sweet potato fries are really tasty. Chic-A-Dee is a good place for a nice, laid-back meal.
