Tad’s Tropical Sno

Not a good experience on a hot Labor Day weekend. The girl was super rude and very slow to help. Ice was not very shaved at all and a huge hole in the middle. Took my 2 year old to share a childhood experience and it was a huge disappointment. Then I just needed a cup of just ice for my son, and was charged the $ 2.75 for no flavored. Should have gone to Sonic down the street. This place sucks.

Did my former city spoil from nearly three years of satiny, perfect, Hawaiian style shave ice (yep, ‘shave’ ice, not ‘shaved’ ice)? Probably, but still… this shaved ice had a gritty-​ice texture that was more like little ice pebbles and not shaved ice. There was also a giant gaping hole in the middle of my sno. The counter girl was suuuuper rude and didn’t seem to know the flavors Tad’s offered. When I asked for a flavor from the menu she rudely asked, «Is that even on the menu?» I’ll probably head elsewhere for my warm weather, sweet treat fix.

I could have sworn that I’d review Tads before, but I guess not. I mean seriously, I would have created a Unilocal account just to log on and give Tads five stars! But seriously, I’ve been coming to Tads (both here and Manhattan) for over eight years. Someone had me try it once and now I’m hooked. I’m not a big ice cream guy, so any time someone suggests it, I drag them here instead because I love it so much!
Ok, now onto the review. This isn’t typical sno cones or anything. This is soft, shaved ice. These guys have probably 50 different flavors to try (see pic)! Out of the numbers of flavors I’ve tried, I’ve never had one I didn’t like. I’ve had some that I wasn’t fond of, but none that I’ve not liked. The people working have always been pleasant. Wait time can be a little longer if it’s busy, which it can be on hot summer days.
The only complaint I have at all is that I wish there was more seating, and some with shade since it gets so hot during the summer! Other than that, I say drop everything and go to Tads NOW!
