Get It Write Studios

I am new to Unilocal but not new to this location. I have been coming here off and on for many years and this is an honest account of my experience. Though some reviews are ment to be funny or fake mine is neither to either brag up a location by being told to or rag on it by people who never been inside. In the early years of my attendance, this location was affordable and a deal for the condition of what you got. I stuck to the hourly room which had a working A/​C and P.A. We got along with all there and the managers. Now I am in a Lockout room with a broken door, holes in the wall, and bad ventilation that causes many to strip down to avoid a heat stroke, when playing in the summer. We was ordered by Jerry to keep the window closed due to noise complaints… it was later nailed shut. When my bandmate asked for the A/​C to be fixed he was told no and was informed that if he bought and put in his own A/​C that the rent would increase $ 100. There was even a flyer posted in the halls for a time. Good thing is The prostitution and drug dealer problem has seem to vanish. Despite what other reviews have said. There is drug use but I havnt been solicited in awhile. There was a time a year or so ago where you had people living in the lockouts but I am unaware if that continues. I have seen many shady characters come and go like other reviews have said. Same with managers Rodney and Doby both have left and now Jerry is the manager, never once have I seen the owner… just managers. The building needs to be remodeled and repaired from the sound proofing to the bathrooms. They hired grafitti atist to paint the walls which did make it look a little better but no one was hired to patch the holes in our lockout walls Like we have mentioned to Jerry before. We ended up covering the holes ourselves In our studio. Years back when Doby was manager We was in a nice room for cheap and then when the new manager jerry took over he felt we should pay $ 300 more for that room which i guess i could understand at first So we moved to a much smaller room and ended up paying $ 25 more. However since we jumped I this room it has had many issue with electrical problems and theft. My guitar was vandalized and resulted in me no longer leaving anything of value in the building. My bandmates have informed Jerry of repairs needed in The studio they pay rent for… but nothing was being done. A few times I made repairs myself. One band member wrote a review on here after months of being ignored for repairs and since I have noticed hostility toward my band member who gave a review of this location and was then banned for that review. The same might happen to me if someone don’t agree, but the thing is I am not saying this to tear anyone down. I am only informing others of the true experience I have seen and been through and you can either believe me or give it a try. Me honestly I would like to return when it makes some good changes.
Pro: You have resturants close by along with a gas station. And they are open on sundays. They don’t care if you do drugs in your room (if that’s your thing, not mine). It’s good if you want a location near rolling hills. IN N OUT is down the street. Parking at the bowling alley is available. If your short on cash they have hourly rooms
Cons: The building needs repairs, slapping new paint will not fixing the electrical, A/​C Ventalation, and structure issue. Not a whole lot of parking. 16 rooms and only 1 bathroom with plumbing and electrical issues. I wouldn’t recommend this place for minors or young women. Cars get vandalized and room has had a few unauthorized entries due to door not being repaired
FUNNY: $ 0.25 items in a vending machine being sold for $ 2. Lmao
Also If you just wanna hang out and kick it, this can be your club house. Most people here are friendly. But if you wanna professional quality studio without drama you might have to do like my drummer was informed by the manager after reading his review «Find another place to jam». If I was the manager I would inform the owner of repairs needed and give this place a whole new look and start from scratch. Because you just can’t polish this one no matter how hard you try.

Been seeing some unnecessary nasty reviews on here. I rarely post Unilocal reviews but if you want a true account of this place here it is. As a veteran of this place I’ll give you a little history. For the past 7 years this place has had different managers and I’ve seen most all of them and have seen changes. Out of all the managers I’ve seen, Jerry has been the one to really turn this place around. The building is tucked away and is actually what I call my personal «Abbey Road» of the South Bay. Get it Write studios has rock n roll soul in it and that’s just the way it is. So what if the lights has problems from time to time. The actual building itself was in worse shape than it is now than all the years I’ve seen before. Any musician that is dedicated to their craft and want a cool TRUE rock n roll vibe comes here. If you want air conditioning and hotel style bathrooms you might want to look elsewhere, you’re just not gonna get it. This building does what it needs to do and has handled tons of punk rock to classic rock to hip hop types (I myself do electronic style rave rock) and we also have very notable bands with radio play actually have rooms here. There are tons of great people in this building and encourage any musician who’s striving for inspiration to come and check it out. This building almost has been here since the dawn of time it seems and has not faded away and keeps serving musicians in the south bay as hard as it can. Oh yeah and the artwork on the walls are amazing too, artists come in from time to time to do mural artwork and the like. 5 STARS and this place has met my every need ever since I came across it. Met alot of great people here too and all striving to make a mark in music someway shape or form.

I strongly recommend people don’t get a room here. My band mate and I have a room here and we have problems with our room and the manager, Gerald, doesn’t do a thing about. Our light fixture is messed up and when we asked him to fix it he replied with a «do you guys really need lights?» Then continued to tell us it isn’t his problem and we have to fix it. (Even though the light fixture starts to smoke when you turn it on)
No duh Gerald. how bout you do your job and fix them since we rent a room there and have been renting there for almost six years. (He also bribed my band mate with marijuana that he «found on the floor» when we brought it up.)
We also have a hole in our wall and his solution was to put a trash bag on it, very classy. He’s not improving the place. The only thing I’ve seen him do since he has been manager is paint the bathroom half assed.
And these people adding good reviews of this place, I know everyone that jams here and have never seen one of them there.
This place has gone to shit since Gerald took it over again. Also, if you are a female or bring your girlfriend here, don’t walk around by yourself when Gerald is around. He hits on every female he meets (including my girlfriend) and has made them very uncomfortable with his unwanted advances. Not very professional for a «manager»
Update: since posting my honest review, Gerald has said that I am no longer welcome at the studio. I posted about very real issues that were brought up to him multiple times before ever being posted. Banning me won’t solve the very obvious issues with this place. In fact, all it does it makes my opinion of the «manager» lower than it was.
For example, you can look in the tips, the one posted by Jerry g. Saying to find a new place to play… Is from the «manager» as you can tell, great customer service and very friendly

This is my spot. My band practices here twice a week, and I gotta say, it’s crazy how much better this place has gotten since Jerry (the new manager) has taken over. Every week he is making improvements. Great spot to practice. Highly recommend.

Get It Write is probably the best hourly rehearsal studio we’ve found in the South Bay. Jerry is great and he’s always made us feel like family since day one. We don’t use any backline besides the PA, but it’s a quality PA — much better than competitors we’ve tried. We’re on a waiting list for a lockout, but until then we’ll gladly be coming back regularly. Thanks Jerry!

I stopped by last week and decided to check this place out after my last studio closed down. Someone told me this place was cool and new. I wanted to talk to the owner/​manager and a man outside told me I needed to talk to Jerry, but then another person who was coming out of the building informed me that there are two Jerrys working at that location. I couldn’t find either Jerry and was told to call him. There was no sign listing if any lockouts are available or prices. I wanted to get the rates, see what was open, or to schedule a room. I walked by a few open doors and they all looked filthy. I saw a band leaving and overheard them saying bad things about the place… Not sure if half of what they said was true so i wont repost it but I like the area and it seemed promising and had that nice 420 smell but didnt like what I saw and didn’t see. I looked around and it looks more like a graffiti art store than a rehersal/​jam studio
too bad, maybe I came on a off day :(

While not a musician per se, I do know my way around a practice studio. Whether it be amateur hour or gearing up for the studio or a tour, Get It Write… uh hum, gets it right. A pleasant atmosphere in a professional setting, Jerry and the team do whatever it takes to meet my needs. I highly recommend this practice space for musicians of all levels. 5 out of 5 stars.

This place great. Manager Jerry is best guy. Cheap price. Very accommodating for me and friends. Clean rooms. Very great location and atmosphere. I’ll never go anywhere else. Jerry will treat you like best friend. Five out of five!

Out of all the hourly/​lock outs I’ve been to, this one is by far the most profession/​clean. The owner, Jerry, runs a tight ship over here. He is always available when we’re here and works hard to give us a good room, even when we ask last minute. The area is well lit, and tucked away behind the clatter of the Main Street. Strongly suggest this space to any range of musician– they have a rooms and PA’s to suit anybody’s need. 5 out of 5!

I love this place it’s my 2^nd home. Great environments for a song writer, professional band or people who just want to jam and be loud.
