5 or 6 years ago, I discovered this wonderful, inexpensive little shop that hems slacks. I was really pleased with the older Asian gentleman’s work, his ability to follow directions/​requests, & the incredibly reasonable $ 5 price. Although, I would never describe the man & woman here as «pleasant» or «friendly»…
I haven’t been back in a few years, & 2 weeks ago I had them hem 3 unfinished slacks. After getting them back I now realize none of the hems are straight! The outseem is hemmed longer than the inseem; so the hem fold at each leg opening is crooked and uneven (on ALL 3 slacks). The difference between seem varies from ¼″ to ¾″!
Last week I brought in 3 NWT slacks to be hemmed. The Asian woman that operates their register & pins the clothes for alteration was even more impatient and unpleasant than usual, and began yelling at me during the measuring because I re-​adjusted my waistline– I was trying to give her an accurate place to hem because I was concerned she wasn’t marking the lengths correctly. I also gave her explicit instructions; do NOT cut the excess material, please just hem (in the future I may cuff these slacks).
I was very disappointed when I got the slacks back; all three are hemmed too short & it is comically noticeable. In addition, the excess material had been cut, so I can no longer cuff them or let them out to lengthen them. Also; again, I see that every hem the outseem and inseem are strangely uneven!
I brought the slacks back, calmly explained the problem, and only asked her to re-​hem the length (since now the pants were currently unwearable). She blamed the entire error on me. She charged me again to correct the short hems; the whole time yelling at me & complaining about wasting her time.
I stopped; thought about it; & took back my short slacks, unfixed. I won’t be back.
* Also, I now realize the location may not be entirely as convenient as I thought. The corner of Crenshaw Blvd & Lomita Blvd can become quite congested; when I went to return my slacks a woman hit my car, saw me & the damage she’d done, & sped off! Please drive carefully!

The lady that works here is really impatient. When taking measurements for my pants’ hemming, she would roll her eyes and huff and puff while I figured how high I wanted them. The only highlight was that it costed $ 5 and I got two done by the end of the day. Boom!

This place is great! $ 5 to hem a pair of pants is super cheap. I paid $ 10 and got them same day. Love it :)

I recently had all my curtains shortened here and was very pleased with the experience. The price was fair and the service was attentive and right on time. I will definitely come here again.

Customer service leaves something to be desired but I don’t speak her native language and I’m not looking to be treated add if I’m getting a suit professionally made for me. I just need my jeans hemmed and a few misc. things. Good work good price close to home, I’ll take it! (p.s.) grab a donut or some fresh fruit next door, so yummy.

Great repair, inexpensive, timely. Had to have a repair done on my uniform pants (called a «Mess Dress») due to a huge busted seam in back. Also, since I hadn’t worn it in (literally) years, the pants either shrank or I had put on a few pounds!!! So, took it into this place, lady not only did awesome job on repairing the seam, but she took out/​expanded the waist just enough to make it fit perfect. All that and a dry clean for $ 15. I was pretty stoked considering that several other places I called either would not do the repair or they were asking way more money. I’m a happy customer. Am using this place from now on!

I took 5 brand new pants for alteration, When I went to picked them up, I paid the total bill. Luckily I decided to try them on, and found out one pant was damage, had a big hole on the side. Which was not there before and no alteration was done on this pant, but they still charge me for it and did not reveal this to me when I was paying. I bet they would have blamed me for the damage if I had walked out. They claimed this was a defected item. And also they were very rude. I would never go to this store again. How could you deal with these kind of dishonored people. I really feel being cheated. May be I should call the consumer complaint dept of CA. DON’T BE ANOTHER VICTIM. The worst experience that I ever had. Don’t be another victim like me

I had done 2 jeans and a dress here. The first 2 jeans were fine since it was only cost me $ 4.99. But when I brought the dress to fix (ask him to press the dress smaller on the chest area), he ask for $ 60 I told him the dress is cost less than the fixing price, so he low it down to $ 45 and so I agree. I also ask him to hem up the dress too, but he said that will cost me another $ 30, so I disregard the request only want to fix the size. When I pick up, I tried on the dress and it is still loose, I told him and he said he just make the lower chest area smaller but not the chest area, I told him that wasn’t the deal for the amount and he said he will fix it for an additional of $ 15. I didn’t want to argue so I ask him to adding the snap on or button on the back to keep it stay still since I will be walking with the dress a lot. He agree. Again, when I pick up the dress wasn’t any button or any hook for me and also the size aren’t any smaller. I told him I paid for the additional money but it wasn’t had done right, so he got mad and said it is the style of the dress. I told him that he should had inform me from the beginning so it wouldn’t was my time or his time? He ignore me and when another customer walk in, he then tried to cover the story by telling me to pick up another time so he can fix again. The third time I came, nothing was done, I got so mad and took my dress off his place. Too bad I paid in advance and couldn’t get the money back. He always pretent not to understand English when you complain.

Super nice owner w great price! $ 5 to hem your jeans! The owner is originally from NYC where the demand is high, quality is great, and prices are cheap for this sort of business! Yeay that he is bringing his good and affordable business to our community.

He’s a good tailor. I mean you can’t beat $ 5 hem for pants. I don’t know about the other poor reviews, but the tailor has always been professional, polite, and patient with me. Just be really specific about what you want when you see him. If I don’t want to run the risk of pants being too short or long I figure out the length I want myself and let the tailor know exactly where I want the pants hemmed. I’m super precise about how I like my stuff to be tailored so communication in the beginning helps.

I’ve never tried pants on while picking it up from this place but this time for some reason I felt like trying it on just to make sure the length was where I wanted it to be. I try it and it looked like it had not been worked on. When I tell the owner, he YELLS and says, «WHAT NONSENSE?». I have half a mind to yell back and say «YOU TELL ME!» but I didn’t. He comes over to where I’m standing with the pants on, looks at the length hanging wayyyyy below my feet and tells me, «You tried it on with heels last time and now your telling me you want it to be shorter. It’s going to cost more.» I’m like «No, I DID NOT try it own with heels and specifically told you I will be wearing this with flats so please don’t leave too much length.» As I turn back and look at the back of my pants I STILL see a pin that he put when I first came in. I say «What is this pin doing here if you already worked on these pants.» He realizes and says «Ok, no charge. I will do for you. Come back at 4pm.»
WTH WTH WTH WTH! No apology. Nothing. Whatever.
Going to go back, pick up my pants and say bye to this place forever.

Rude to customer!!! Will not go there again!

One Trick Pony. Yes, that’s what I’ve decided to coin this place. The lure is to get your pants hemmed for $ 4.99 as they proudly advertise on their banner outside. I’ve gotten several pairs of pants hemmed here and they weren’t bad. But, it’s really impossible to ruin hemming a pair of pants. I could do it myself if I had a sewing machine.
However, in my last two visits where I asked for something ‘a little’ more complex than sewing a straight line, my two items of clothing were completely ruined. I brought in two work skirts from Banana Republic. One skirt needed shortening. For a petite asian girl, this is pretty common. First, the hem was completely uneven around the skirt. Then, he didn’t take the lining in. When I tried on the skirt, the skirt itself was shorter but the lining was hanging out. Did I really have to ask to have the lining hemmed too? I told him and he cut the lining and sewed it (unevenly of course) so it was short enough where it didn’t stick out.
This last visit was worse. Another work skirt from Banana Republic. Yes, foolish me. I should have learned my lesson the first time. This time I needed him to take about an inch off the width. Even non-​tailors would know that that means taking one inch off all the way down to the bottom of the skirt (including adjusting for the slit). I tried it on and it was the WORST tailoring job I’ve ever seen! The hem was completely uneven and make one side of the skirt look completely bumpy the whole way down. Needless to say that he didn’t bother adjusting for the slit! I pointed it out to him (and got no apology). He takes it and does some quick sewing and whips it back to me in 2 minutes. I try it on again and point out that he didn’t adjust for the hem. He said it wasn’t necessary and that he just needs to press the skirt. Now I’m no tailor but when do you only hem 80% of a skirt? I let the guy press the skirt and leave. I probably should have refused to pay for it but I was so upset I just wanted to get the heck outta there. Two quality skirts completely ruined. AND hemming skirts costs $ 17 each!
I should have known this guy is a one trick pony when I saw the lady next to me with her 8 pairs of sweat pants needing to get hemming.
Lesson learned: If you need pants (or sweats) hemmed, this is your place. Otherwise, take your nice clothing elsewhere.

Apparently I am the only woman in the world who is not 6 feet tall, or at least that’s what pants makers seem to be telling me.
I rarely buy pants because I always have to get them hemmed due to my nubby legs and I simply can’t afford the hefty price other places charge. When I was calling around the Redondo area, I discovered that to get my 3 pairs of pants hemmed would cost about the price of a whole other pair of pants. First place-​$ 10, second-​$ 12, third– $ 18. I was so relieved to find NY Tailor, where a hem for a pair of jeans is a delightful $ 4.99.
Mostly everything went ok. The reason I’m knocking a star off is that when I went to pick my pants up the business was closed even though it was supposed to open. I waited around for quite a while. I saw about 4 other people come and go as they’d also expected the business to be open. The owner had an appointment somewhere in downtown LA. That was a little bit of a pain in the ass, but hey, life happens.
Also the owner had told me he’d fix a little broken stitch in the thigh area of one of the pairs. When I got them back it wasn’t fixed but I immediately walked right back in and the owner fixed it free of charge right on the spot! I think that is just phenomenal customer service. I will definitely be going back!
