Susan’s Alteration

I’ve had two different jobs done here, and both were beautifully done. On the second job, I wasn’t sure she understood what I wanted (language problem), but it was perfect. Her workmanship is excellent and very reasonably priced.

Excellent quality of work and flexible with timing needs. Susan even went above and beyond to fix a problem with a hem line.

I found Susan’s Alteration on Unilocal and I’m glad I did. I have two classic dress pants that were too baggy but thought the alteration was going to be as much as buying a new pair. I could never find the color nor the style to replace these two pants and so just kept wearing them for special occasions.
This year I decided to find someone that could fix them and found Susan’s on Unilocal.Her price to shorten the waist was so reasonable and professionally done! I wish I had these paints altered years ago because every time I wore them I would say I need to get these pants fixed.
I plan to bring my brother’s pants there to get altered next.

Glad I found Susan’s. I had 9 pairs of designer jeans that required tapering of the legs… if not done properly, ruins look of the jeans.
I trusted Susan with the job and she came through with flying colors. All jeans had consistent taper and completed to my specs. Nicely done! And fair price with quick turnaround!

Solid work, reasonable prices, relatively quick turn-​around.
English isn’t her first language, but she’s good at what she does, so you can just show her what you want done and she’ll make it happen. Even just a little tuck here and there can make such a huge difference in how a dress fits, it’s so worth the time to have it done.
I had a dress that needed to be taken in at the shoulders, waist, sleeves, and hem, for a total of about $ 60. Turnaround was four days. The dress was pressed and ready to wear when I picked it up, and she had trimmed off all the loose threads from the embellishments, too.
They’re in a tiny little shop next to a nail salon, in a lot that basically seems like the back-​side of a larger building, so if you don’t see the place, you’re probably just in the wrong parking lot.

Susan is very honest, quiet and hardworking woman. I needed a quick fix on a pair of pants the same day and she did it right the way. Wonderful job! She also helped me with my art project and I am very grateful for Susan’s help.

I can’t believe this is the same place on here with all the great reviews. I thought I’d try a different alterations place in Torrance, so this was the first one to come up on Unilocal.Either it’s because I know how to SEW, (but not fast enough to do the alterations I gave her) or you basically get what you pay for in price (which I didn’t really think was cheap, maybe average priced), that I’m upset at the results. First, when I went in, there was a lady who asked if she could have a hook and eye sewed on, and ‘Susan’ quoted something like $ 12! I almost told the customer I’d do it for her right then and there for FREE it’s so easy. Second, she doesn’t even care to change the thread to at least match your garment (white pants with black thread). Third, the tension must be off on her sewing machine because I could see the loops coming out, plus the stitching isn’t that straight! FOURTH, her and her friend asked me, «why I would buy a (garment) so much bigger in the first place?» Isn’t that how she makes her money? Worst of all, I expected her to alter my garment as most experienced sewers would have, but she did it in a completely different way that has now messed it up, and I’m damned if my other alterations can fix her mistakes. I even told her that if she doesn’t think she can fix it, then tell me now, because I’d rather go somewhere that can. She offered to try to fix it, but I wasn’t comfortable with her even fixing it, so I left without a refund offered. I read other reviews of people saying you have to know exactly what you want since her English is very minimal, but if you really LOVE the garment you’re taking in, then I’d go somewhere else. Or if you’re just having something simple done, like a pant or skirt hem, then maybe it would be okay, but sorry, I went back to my original place in Torrance who recognized the same alteration mistakes as I IMMEDIATELY without me having to even try the garment ON!

Fantastic service! I was very pleased with the workmanship this shop had.
I had had a 3 piece suit altered at a previous tailor and they had done a very poor job. I needed a place to fix the stitching on the pants and suit coat. I also needed this alteration — as well as the dry cleaning of two shirts — done in just a day or two’s time, as I had a formal event on the weekend.
Susan got it done timely, for a fantastic price. Around $ 20 for suit coat and suit pant alteration, as well as two dress shirts dry cleaned, all with a rush job. Fantastic value!
Caveat: Know exactly what you want. As others have said, her English isn’t the best, but if you can’t point out what you need, she’ll get it done.

I took a long two layered lace dress that needed shortening on Monday. I ask her if I could pick it up on Wednesday, and she said «In the morning». Sure enough. It was done, perfectly. Wednesday morning.
Even if some people say it’s hard to find, it is not. Just get into the parking lot coming in from the east, towards Hawthorne. It will be on your right. There’s a sign of all the businesses, two on each line, maybe four down. I think it says Susan, or something like that. (I’ll pay more attention when I go next time and update this.
There’s a nice Mediterranean market that seems to make lovely sandwiches, for those that want to pick up lunch at the same time. :-)
When I went in the place looks a bit shabby… especially the fitting room area. Her English is not good at all, but she does understand what you need done, knows how to charge and gives you a ticket with the price to pick it up. No surprises. And with the way she works and what she charges, you can forget that the place is not so fancy looking.
I am very impressed. She charged $ 30 to hem my double layered fancy lace party dress.
She has a sign that she hems Jeans for $ 5.99 each. I think it’s a good price.
The best thing is that she does a very good job, at reasonable price, and has it ready when you need it, even if you need it fast.
By the way, her name is Susan, and the shop is Susan alterations. NOT Suzanne, like it says on Google.
She does all kind of alterations, you just have to bring it there and she will tell you how much she’ll charge and then you decide.
And there is plenty of parking.

Irrespective, she is one of the most economical out there. Even though as other’s have said English isn’t perfect, if you show her what you want done she’ll do it. Almost like speaking the language of math or love. I brought in a laundry basket’s worth of close to be altered. Most everything fit perfectly, and she even went as far to re-​tailor the remaining garments without charge.
This is a tribute to her hard work as she stays late to get things done and prioritizes certain garments if you need them done by a certain date. Only negative (which I couldn’t take a star away from because cost + finished product was so good) was that 1 item wasn’t ready on time. To her credit, she offered to do it right then and there.

I try not to leave Unilocal reviews but the service here is terrible. She didnt have my alterations ready by the promised date, which I dismissed as an oversight. I decided to give her another chance (she is close to work) and when I went to pick up two items that I had altered, she only handed me one. When I reminded her of the other item she seemed confused. She finally admitted that I did drop off another item (based on the ticket) but then tried to shift the blame by saying that there was only one item inside the bag she had which is why it was lost. She then told me to come back and she would look for the other item. Well, she never found it, but I gave her 2 stars regardless because at least she refunded me the cost of item and the alteration charge. Her work is decent but not better than any other store for the amount she charges and definitely not worth the hassel.

This is a great place to get dress pants and suit jackets tailored to fit. It was estimated $ 80 for 5 pants and a suit jacket to be tailored. Susan measure me and had everything ready for pick up the same week. It was very convenient to drive there after work. She even stayed later past business hours so that I can make it after I got off work late to pick up my clothes. I would recommended this place as your new destination for a tailor.

I found Susan on Unilocal and decided to try her out to see if I can replace the lining on a jacket and skirt. It didn’t appear that English was her first language but she understood what I was after and she explained to me that it would probably run about $ 70 to replace a jacket lining (I used to sew so I understood why) and she can repair it for $ 15. I didn’t think it could be repaired but I wanted to try it. When I got it back I thought it was a brand new lining. I was very pleased with her work and told her that I’ll come back again for other alteration jobs.

I needed to get a bridesmaid dress hemmed and had no idea where to go. Decided on this place after reading some Unilocal reviews, the place was very easy to find! The lady was very nice, explained that since the dress was 2 layers she would have to charge me $ 25 since there were 2 layers to hem. I honestly have no idea if that’s a lot or not but I had no other options. She asked what day I would like it, I gave a 5 day turn around time and she said ok but I feel like she would have been ok with any day I said! She seemed very nice and willing to work with you. I asked her opinion on the length and she gave me good advice. Once I picked up the dress it was perfect! You couldn’t even tell it had been hemmed and she even steamed it for me, I had brought it in all wrinkled. Great service! I would defn be back. I had ordered my dress online from weddington way and I left a review saying the dress had to be hemmed, they then offered to contribute $ 25 towards the cost of alterations! Which was the exact price I paid! So I defn feel like I wasn’t overcharged. Highly recommend this place.

Needed a dress hemmed the same day. Every place I called said no. I called here and they did an amazing job and had the dress done the same day. Will bring all my clothes here from now on.

Came in last Saturday night to get a few pair of pants hemmed and one pair straight legged. Susan seemed pretty busy, so I was totally fine with picking up the clothes on Wednesday afternoon. I went to grab food, and 40 minutes later, I received a call from Susan telling me that my pants (including the ones that I needed to have straight legged) were ready for pickup. I tried them on, and perfect!
Some people just make your day, and Susan definitely did.

I needed some jeans hemmed ASAP (hey, I’m short, so I always need to get pants hemmed!). So I needed to find a place that was open late enough for me to make it after work, but convenient enough for me to pick-​up on a weekend. Cue Unilocal search, and voila! This place met all of my criteria — open late enough on weekdays, open Saturdays, literally within walking distance from my apartment, and 5-​star reviews.
I walked in at about 6:30 on a Friday night, explaining that I needed some jeans hemmed before having to go out of town, and that if possible, I wanted to pick-​up the following day. I apologized for my last minute rush, began to explain my travel plans, but the owner quickly told me that it was no problem, and assured it would be ready for me first thing in the morning! Sure enough, my jeans were ready and waiting for me when I arrived on Saturday morning.
Terrific service, even at the last minute. This is definitely my new go-​to place for any alterations.
